I'm a llama!

« on: December 11, 2004, 01:20:22 PM »

Today, I purchased a ticket to see Duran Duran on 2/12/05 and Motley Crue on 2/18/05.

I noticed that Duran Duran was being promoted by Fantasia Blue Stage Door and Motley Crue was being promoted by VH1.

Could GN'R use these promoters too or did they get screwed due to the Clear Channel thing and now no one wants the risk? Huh

Oh and whoever laughs at me going to see Duran Duran...............I saw them when I was 15 so 21 years later, I get to see the original line up again so there hope for GN'R.

VH1 promotes nostalgia acts. Somebody's going to promote GNR, Clear Channel or not. If they make money, they'll be promoted. They make money.

I don`t think GNR will have a problem finding a promoter. Many will jump at the chance regardless of the risk of Axl not finishing a tour. Its big bucks for them.

As far as Duran Duran are concerned, they deserve more credit than some give them. Yeah, they were a chick band. But they`ve gone beyond that now. I started getting into them because I knew a girl in High School who loved them and was looking for an angle to get with her  hihi

I have my fingers crossed.

Yep, Money tells. It makes the mare move but the Pegasus isn?t? much of a mare. The Pegasus makes the real musician move and music start. Music moves money. Then money tells??

Off topic but My mum said she had mistaken Axl for someone from Duran Duran seeing his pic in a mag for the first time. Is there an Axl look-alike in that band? Huh

I don't think anyone from Duran Duran looks like Axl but I still remember how they looked in 1984  Tongue

But what I don't understand is this:

If Clear Channel and GN'R had a fallout legally.................Clear Channel would promote them again?

I know we don't know the full details as to why the 2002 ended and I am not about to make this thread into that.............I am just curious as to how if CC did sue GN'R or vice versa, how just money would make it all right again between them.

 Huh

I think new gnr is a huge risk for anyone, even more for a smaller proter, as it could make them bigger it could also put them under when they have to get money for the riots and all the people who would sue..

I'm not saying it would happen but you have to go with the recent track record.. WOrld tour ends in three weeks..

I wouldn't be quite so certain that any promoter would "jump" at the opportunity to promote a North American GN'R tour. I would love to see what the insurance premium for a promoter would be to put GN'R on the road again- plus I'm not too certain individual venues would be all that excited about housing a GN'R show either- Axl would likely have to beg and give all the profits to the house just to get back into Vancouver or Philly at this point. ?Plus, it ain't '92 anymore. As the '02 tour showed- Axl and Co. really struggle to sell out arenas in second tier markets. It ain't MSG every night. Now if CD comes out and goes straight to the top of the charts- then GN'R will likely have its fair share of suitors, but not until then I don't believe.

I don't think we really know the full extent of the damage from the ill-fated '02 tour. People I talk to, including a few plugged-in to CC's legal team, said CC will do everything in its power to see that Axl Rose never takes the stage in North America again. Now that's what I heard in '02 right after it happened and it may have been nothing more than "posturing" by CC- but I would take that seriously. My personal opinion is that at a minimum CC is going to have to be paid a lot of money at some point to shut-up and go away if GN'R ever wants to tour N. America again. Yet another reason that Axl must be really popular with Universal/Geffen.confused

It's amazing how many well connected people we have on this little board.  On the other hand, he could be talking shit. Tongue

Thats a sad statement from GNR fans point of view if this was really said by CC. I personally dont think Axl has it in him to do long tours anymore. Also Dizzys comment about how GNR "as in Axl" wasnt excited about possible touring for CD. Makes me think GNR shows in the future will be few and far between. If CD is a big success in North America then its likely Axl would have the confidence to tour more than a couple cities.

HAHA. I understand the cynicism takeshi. A lot of big claims of "connectedness" get thrown around this board.

You don't have to believe me- but I really don't think it's that big a news anyways considering it's two years old and coming from the other side of the story (CC) and not the side we care most about (GN'R). I  was in the legal field in NYC in '02 and some of my friends worked as lawyers for a big law firm in NYC retained by CC. They basically made it clear that CC was very, very, VERY PISSED OFF at Axl and at that point and wanted to put the guy permanently out of show business if they possibly could. As a general proposition it is very unwise to fuck with CC. However, like I said, 2 years have passed, maybe things have cooled down, Axl has great lawyers, maybe they have a compromise worked out already for the next tour, who knows.beer
