"You're an idiot"

WWW
« on: November 26, 2004, 10:58:11 AM »

We did this with "Ain't Goin' Down" and it worked out quite nicely.

Now I have "Crash Diet" for download on the main site.

Since I don't have any lyrics for it on the site, I thought I'd ask you for help.

Any ideas?

This is from www.azlyrics.com

"Crash Diet"

Crash diet of reds'n'ludes
A shot of vitamin C and a bottle of booze
Too stupid to live with nothin' to lose
In your one track mind now
Where's that leave you?

Drink'n'drive white lightning faster baby
Takin' your last ride
Now better be so careful or you'll be dead before you time
Sorry you took mother's car now

Tears in my eyes, baby please don't go
You bet (?!) one too many, now one for the road
fresh outta detox, fresh from jail
Took your rehabilitation and you drove me to hell

Drink'n'drive white lightning faster
Takin' your last ride
Better be so careful or you'll be dead before your time
Sorry you took mohter's car now

Too soon, you thought ... ?!
Too late for the pressure and strain
Too bad for those who don't believe it
Ruby street still calls your name

[guitar solo]

Itchy trigger finger and the race to be alive
Smokin' a cig while you drink'n'drive
With no control in your life ahead
You're never gonna see if you wind up dead

Drink'n'drive white lightning faster
Takin' your last ride
Better be so careful or you'll be dead before your time
Drink'n'drive white lightning baby
It's always on your mind
Push or pull your limits baby, do it one more time
Break it down
Break it down
Somethin''s changin', somethin''s breakin'
You gotta be a brother, 'coz ?! your family
?!.... Oh make it
Sweet mystery, Ooohhhh
If you don't care about yourself
Would you please leave me alive
Oooohhhh...
You gonna
You gonna drink'n'drive
Oooohhhhh, Yeeaaah!

I'm glad they didn't take this song any further than the demo stage.  The anti drink-driving message of the lyrics seems a bit preachy and un- GN'R.

The Asphalt Ballet version of the song makes the lyrics a lot easier to understand since it's a full quality track.

Agreed on the lyrics.  As I grew older though, I learned to appreciate them more...

But goddammit it's one hell of a heavy song: the solo has a high 'heavy metal' sound to it and the rhythm section underneath the solo just punches the listener right in the face.

Man I love this song. ok

Well you could go to a rolling stones lyric site since it's their song.

I really appreciate the lyrics coming from my favorite band, cause my mom died of a drunk driver hitting our car when I was six months old in 1987.

Thanks for the great song with a good message Axl!

?Crash Diet"

Crash diet of reds 'n' ludes
A shot of vitamin C and a bottle of booze
Too stupid to live with nothin' to lose
In your one track mind now
Where's that leave you?

Drink 'n' drive white lightning faster baby
Then your last ride, now
Netter be so careful or you'll be dead before you time
Sorry you took mother's car now

Tears in my eyes, baby please don't go
You?ve had one too many, havin' one for the road
Fresh from detox, fresh from jail
Took your rehabilitation and you drove me to hell

Drink 'n' drive white lightning faster
Then your last ride, yeah
Better be so careful or you'll be dead before your time
Sorry you took mother's car now

Too soon, for those who didn?t need it
Too late for the pressure and blame
Too bad for those who don't believe it
Ruby street still calls your name

[guitar solo]

Itchy trigger finger and the race to be alive
Smokin' a cig while you drink'n'drive
With no control in your life ahead
You're never gonna see it if you wind up dead

Drink 'n' drive white lightning faster
Then your last ride
Better be so careful or you'll be dead before your time
Drink 'n' drive white lightning baby
It's always on your mind
Push it to the limit baby, do it one more time
Take it down
Break it down
Somethin's changin', somethin's breakin'
You gotta be a brother, 'coz you're family
Baby one more time oh make it
Sweet history, Ooohhhh
If you don't care about yourself
Would you please leave me alive
Oooohhhh...
You gonna
You gonna drink 'n' drive
Oooohhhhh, Yeeaaah!

I really like this song. The solo is a classic and is the bass is awesome. This should've been on Appetite instead of Think About You.

EDIT - Edit for Takin' your last ride  - Should be: Then your last ride. All corrections are in bold.

100% agreement on that part, the solo section is superb.

if it had been on afd tho the solo would have been very much different cos i can't see slash playing anything like the demo (i think it's wes arkeen playing).

Yeah it was Wes on guitar........I definitely think Slash would have had a way different take on it.........BUT could you imagine Bucket shredding the solo.  Now that would have been nice.

I love Crash Diet

thanks for the corrected lyrics  ok

as far as the anti-drunk driving message... what was Brownstone if not a warning about heroine
I used to do a little, but a little wouldn't do so the little got more and more...
I just kept tryin to get a little better... a little better than before

Motherfucker won't leave my ass alone

(on that note - is Metallica's Master of Puppets uncool?  Roll Eyes )

there were messages in quite a few of GN'R's songs...
just because they described life on the street drugs alcohol and sex -
does not mean they glorified or encouraged drug use or prostitution or any other type of self abusive destructive behavior in their lyrics/music

another example in my michelle - the song does not glorify the character's behavior or life - if anything it seems to grieve it
and give a message of hope if "Michelle" would not give up

they shared these accounts and honestly depicted the outcome and the pain of those in these situations
in My Michelle the mother died from heroine use
in Rocket Queen he tries to get through to the character that he'll be there for her... that it hurts him to see her in pain
in civil war they acknowledge the pain and death associated with war...
selling soldiers in a human grocery store <-------- great line

i don't hear any of the songs saying killing or destroying yourself and/or your soul/spirit with drugs and alcohol violence or sex is cool
their songs only acknowledged the reality of these situations that people (including themselves) experienced

crash diet would have been the same, imo
woulda been a great selection for GN'R to release
 yes

drinking and driving is not cool
its like playing russian roulette
and anyone who thinks its cool to risk their lives and the lives of others is an asshole

 peace

A great song. I got it on a demo a year before the UYI albums came out and was very disappointed to see it never made the final cut. crying
