I'm a llama!

Mind you I absolutely love the song, but when I first heard it I was somewhat disappointed as I was expecting a Guns type song with major strings and guitars and whatnot. The more I have listened to it though I realize the song is good just how it is. I think had they added a bunch more junk it would have taken away from Slash's guitar, which is really showcased in this song. The first thing I hear from people who here the song for the first time (including most of the DJ's who play the song in the area) is that they love Slash in this song, and that its almost like he is talking with his guitar. While adding strings would have given it a grander sound like a Guns song would be, do you think it was good they left them out or do you consider the song a disappointment because they left it the way it is?

I ask this only because DUff mentioned a couple of times how they toyed with adding them at points and wanted to see how the rest of the board felt.

It sounds good just the way it is...no strings...it's not a huge epic tune like November Rain

I think if done tastefully in certain areas of the song, yes, strings could've made FTP even better than what it is.
I think some strings played during the build up to Slash's solo would've sounded great. ok

I just don't think it would have fit anywhere in the song. It's stupid to put strings on a song for the sake of having strings. It's gotta be the right tune.

If it was done right it would be sorta cool... texturing the middle section a little before the solo. Just threaded nicely into the song, not overly dominating.
