Except that the problem with the OMG vocals isn't that they are too raw, but that they are too processed. This was from a time when Axl was fascinated with the industrial sound. It didn't suit him and I hope he doesn't do anymore vocals this way.

and I have a more satisfying time listening to them than OMG.

The satisfying part of listening to that song could also be the fact that its the newest original studio recording by GNR that any have heard of since 1991 (unless you heard IRS on the radio a while back.  I know I didnt).  So I think that most people like it more because they feel that this songs means that Axl will eventually release Chinese Democracy.  Not so much of a good song, more like a good lure into making us hold on to the belief that Chinese Democracy will come out in your life time.

'Oh My God' is one of the coolest songs to have come out in the last long time. It's almost 5 years old, but it still sounds like it came out yesterday. I'm not sure if that''s a coincidence, or if that's Axl showing his amazing talent with how to determine musical trends. I'd love to hear a more "finished" version on the album, seeing as Axl said it's more of a demo. The song is definitely better than anything on 'Contraband', though.

OMG is excellent. Its a cool rocker. I love the lyrics and the whole vibe. ALthough I dont want a whole album full of OMGs I hope that there is 1 or 2 like that on CD.

I wish they extended the drums on the intro. Very cool opening but too short. They should have built it up then bam....its not how your thinking, like youve been right, youve been living a tradeoff  believe your own version believe your in slavery and drain out your soul. what can i do when theres so many liars that crawl through your veins, like millions of spiders that seek out their victims and ruin the wiser...watch out...got ya ....ooooooooooo...i love bucketheads hand motions at rio during this part...what a fukin song.....
the only one in the game whos lost is YOU....

Sorry song pumped me up now im hyper

DISCLAIMER: I like OMG.

But...

You've got to be kidding.  OMG sounds like NIN or Ministry circa 1989.  Nothing groundbreaking, nothing ahead of it's time.  A product of influences, hardly setting any musical trends.  Maybe a new direction for Axl himself, but a path many had been down long before he.

It has NIN elements but its not a NIN song. NIN songs are more deeper and "creepier". OMG has more of a rock vibe than NIN songs.

I wouldnt call it a groundbreaking song either, but it certainly does rock. And if GNr give us a variety of diverse tracks, we are in for a real cool musical jounry.

If people mean the End  of Days version then is good, however if we speak of the Rio3 version I would say is awesome, even though people say that the band screw the song at the end, maybe they want it to play that way.

it took me about 3o times listening to oh my god to like it whereas i like almost all the rockers on CB

granted OMG has more stayin power, ive been listenin to OMG for4 years now and i cant say ill be listening to anything off CB this time next year

Contraband is this years Results may vary for me

last year i listened to RMV for 6 months solid, i fuckin absolutely love that cd bizkit haters i dont care

contraband i have the same vibe, thing is i havent listened to RMV in about 3 months and have no desire to at all

and CB feels the same way

its amazing that after 17 years i still love afd the same and after 13 years i still love uyi's the same thats the difference in music now and back then

I ain't listened to Oh My God in a long time, I gave it a few listens a year or two back and just couldn't get into it.   I prefere every track on Contraband to Oh My God, to each his own though.   I loved Guns N' Roses, I listen to their songs every damn day because they are a huge part of rock n' roll, but I quit paying attention to Axl and his new group long ago.   Guns N' Roses had huge success, it was a band effort and they made songs that will be remembered forever.   I hate it when I see people talking as if it was all Axl, it wasn't just him on his own because if it was his throwing in new members would have worked and they'd still be rocking the world, but they ain't.

Are Slash, Duff and Matt not the same members who tore it up with Axl back in the day, some of the best out there who we all adored?   Velvet Revolver are sound at least music wise in my view, and Scott does a good enough job on vocals.

Axl Rose is a legend, I would love to see him get it together and get another album out there, although I am one of those who wants him to drop the name.   If the album is quality and we get memorable songs, then great because we need more good bands back in music, sick of this pop, rap and dance crap.

I don't post here often, because I don't follow the new line up and have nothing positive to really say about them...I mean we're still waiting on a damn album!   Then there is the fact I'd just be going against everyone else, because I happen to think Guns N' Roses beat the Guns N' Posers.   Any arguement I can't take seriously, won't be able to until the album finally gets relased...if it gets released.

Sorry if it's not meant to go in here, or if you've heard it all before but there it is.   I'm off again.

I enjoy Slither and Sucker Train blues better than OMG.

Slash's Slither guitar solo is incredible, and OMG's is lame, if you can even call that a guitar solo.

I do like both songs though.  Slither really takes off when Slash starts the guitar solo.  That is the kind of rock music I have desired since UYI2.

Oh My God introduced me to GnR. I got the soundtrack to burn for a friend, and thought that the song sucked; they were trying to real badly be relative. After a few more listens I started to really dig the song. It still is nothing too original, but I've been listening to it for 4 years now. The thing about well produced songs is that, over the course of a few months, you discover new sounds you haven't heard before. Oh My God is on the brink of falling off the edge with too many FX, but it manages to balance just on the border.
OMG would do better without that crappy last solo... It's too out of place. Axl's case for the solo was that it had an older GnR sound, so older fans can relate to the song. But you can't relate to a whole song just because of one solo. It's useless. Get rid of it, and go straight to the chorus. Get rid of the effect on Axl's voice. And finally, ease up on the processed guitars and drums.

I borrowed Contraband from my cousin and have to agree with D. Neither of us(cousin n' me) will be listening to it for a long time. The rockers are all average, nothing exciting enough. On the other hand, the ballads are the best part of the album.

OMG is better than anything on Contraband, except for a couple of ballads.
On a side note, does anyone else think Illegal i sounds a lot like Jane's Addiction? Scott has a Perry sound, and the guitar style is Navarro-ish.

Oh My God is a cool song, and I've always liked it. I first heard it back in the winter of 2003, and I was blown away by how aggressive it was compared to GNR's older material. I was just getting into GNR then, so I was unprepared for the shock of Axl's industrial-tinged work here.

All in all, it's a cool tune, but I hope that it doesn't show up on Chinese Democracy - There's no real point in revisiting it, and I'm sure that the band has cooked up a bunch of songs at least as good as this one... well, scratch that, it's almost a totally different band now than in '99. But I'm sure that the 'new' material is at least this good.
