good question. I've been looking around for sales figures for awhile now, don't know what's going on, i go to billboard and they have symbols for the status of albums, but greatest hits isn't even gold according to that, which i'm sure is wrong. Your best hope would be to scourge through the sales chart thread and add every week up.  If you go to the album section of this site, jarmo has compiled some statistics for the album too. Not sure when it's been updated last, but it's not too old.

around 5 million copies worldwide in 3 month that's very good!
Maybe it could sell 10 million copies in a year (5 million other copies in the last 9 month is really possible) wich is GREAT. That's better sales than most of the artists under the spotlight today in 2004. Even Madona doesn't sell that much record today (about 7 or 8 million per album in the 2000's for Madona). So 10 million copies for Guns n' Roses "Greatest Hits" is awesome.
When "chinese democracy" comes out, with new material, more media attention, singles, promotion, Videoclips etc...the album Chinese Democracy" could reach 15 million copies worldwide and even more if the album is really great.

I dont think it has reach a million here in the states yet. It sold 160,00 in its first week and has been slowly drifting down, down, down. I think its above gold somewhere but not near PLatinum (1 million) in the states. GnR GH sold 1.5 million in the UK? that sounds a little far fetched

Yea I agree with you.  Last count I did it was at like 700,000 copies in the u.s.  I wish there was a website that had info on how many copies a cd sells.

Yeah I love Guns, but you got to live by the facts.  Correct em if I am wrong but it takes less then 1,000,000 to reach platinum in the UK. I am sure that it could of sold near 1.5 million in the UK, that would be like multiple times platinum.

700,000 sounds real close to what the #'s were adding up to, to me.

I don't have a source or any real proof, but I'm almost positive that it will go Gold next time the charts come out. (July 3rd)

If not then it should go July 10th then. It's coming soon... I mean it isn't gold in the states yet so it should very very soon.

If you add up the numbers, it's pretty far past gold, it's probably around 800,000 somewhere, but I know for a fact that it has sold more than 500,000 in the u.s. Unless of course the sales numbers have been extremely innacurate, but Janet Jackson's new album came out after gn'rs greatest hits, along with aerosmith's new cover cd, and gn'r came out like two weeks after that but has remained ahead of it just about every week and both have been certified platinum and gold.

Ok, i just went through the chart positions thread and added every week in the u.s. except two or three because i couldn't find it, it was the week before this last week. So far I have 702,432 sold so far.

some more statistics.
greatest hits is still in the top 5 in 3 countries. #4 in new zealand. #5 in belgium. and #5 in ireland.  It is currently the 9th best selling album in the world. With contraband at #4, members of gn'r have the two highest selling albums in the top 10 at the same time, pretty impressive.

Ok I see I have to clear up some things around here concerning the issue of the album sales of the Guns N' Roses:Greatest Hits album:

7 weeks ago it was reported that in the United States the Guns N' Roses:Greatest Hits compilation had gone Gold. In the United States a particular album has to actually sell 500,000 copies for it to obtain the Gold status but after that the status only depends on albums shipped. For example,in the album's 5th week 600,000 copies of the album had been shipped to the U.K. One can only expect that about 1,600,000 copies has been shipped in the U.K making it almost 6 times platinum (for the U.K-300,000 copies=platinum).

I can guarantee you that in the United States Guns N' Roses should have been certified platinum about 4-6 weeks ago. One thing that also intrigues me is that D12's album sold over 500,000 copies in its first week but it hasn't even been certified Gold which makes no sense. I believe the same thing has happened to the Greatest Hits album. I don't know what the deal is there. By the end of the year expect the album to go multi-platinum in the U.S (over 2 million copies shipped). Also to get back to the U.K's argument the Greatest Hits actually sold 1.2 million copies in Europe 8 weeks ago. The album is the 9th best selling album in the world right now after 13 weeks of its released. If my timetables and calculations hold right the Greatest Hits album should have sold between 6-10 million copies worldwide in one year from its release (March 2005).
