It is simply amazing how biased some people are.  The VR album isnt even released yet and we have people bashing it.  And from what I can tell most of the posters that are bashing it are doing it from an uneducated point of view.  I have listened to the preview on mtv numerous times and I love almost all of the songs.  Its just stupid how people bash Slash and co, when THEY ARE ONE OF THE REASONS THAT YOU LIKED THE BAND IN THE FIRST PLACE!  I mean jesus christ, Axl is "trying" (apparantly) to make music with what look to be drop outs from the fucking circus.  Atleast VR released an album.  We have been waiting for Chinese Democracy for over five years now.  It pisses me off to no end when people say how much garbage contraband is, when you can tell they are just bashing it because it isnt Axl on vocals.

For most of you, it is time to move on.  From the looks of it CD is never fucking coming out.  And dont think that I am just bashing GnR b/c I dont like the new band.  I LOVED the new band, I was obsessed with them.  But it gets lame just waiting for something that never happens.  Axl has promised an album to us personally (in interviews and concerts) since New Years 2000.  And where is it!?!?

Rock on Velvet Revolver!

After listening to the Velvet Revolver album, I have a few thoughts.
First, this is not the second coming of Guns-n-Roses nor is it the Stone Temple Pilots reunion. These guys have the same challenge George Lucas had in bringing Star Wars Episode I to the big screen. Impossible expectations.
Like Lucas, they are expected to do all their old tricks while pushing the limits of the medium. They are going to be expected to put out something that sounds like they did in the early 90s without sounding dated.
The result is also much like the new Star Wars movies ? a mixed bag. Where the new movies have cooler special effects, Velvet Revolver has modern production values. Where the new movies lack appealing characters, Velvet Revolver lacks the soulful playing the ex-gunners are capable of.
Scott is no Axl Rose, and that?s a good thing. Instead of trying to come off as a poor-man?s Axl, he does his own thing and it?s pretty good.
However, Scott isn?t as good as the producers of the album would have you think. The album rarely ever showcases anyone but Scott. I mean, the guy is good, but his bass player is more famous than he is. When you?re in a band with Slash and Duff McKagen, it?s okay to have a guitar solo more than every once in a while. Scott is almost always in the foreground while the rest of the band is in the background. I would have liked to have heard more from Slash, Duff, Matt and Dave than the album?s producer let me. I mean these guys (three of them anyway) played with a person who they have characterized as one of the biggest ego maniacs in the world, yet when they were playing with Axl they were given more of a chance to shine individually.
The songs were all pretty good. It wasn?t like listening to Appetite for Destruction for the first time, but nothing is. You can hear that this band has been together for less than a year. Many of the songs feel under developed. There are not a lot of really great hooks that stay with you.
Don?t get me wrong. My overall reaction to the album is positive. I?ll be buying it. It?s a sweet ride when compared to today?s fluff, pop, rap metal and college bands. The best part about this album is wondering what will happen if these guys stick together for 2-3 years and put out a second album. It leaves you wanting more. I think they have all the components of a great band and you can hear it, they just need to spend a little more time revising their music and developing their sound. They also need to step up and show off how much talent everyone in the band has. Scott is good, but he doesn?t merit not showing off the other guys in the band.
However, it is nice to know that they will have an album on shelves Tuesday.

Again what do looks have to do with anything? IT does not determain if  you can play or not.  But since  you brought up looks, have you seen scott and what he wears at his live shows?  rofl

Ever see david bowie as ziggy stardust or listen to that album? Its one of the best albums ever.

Sorry to say but even some of the biggest VR supporters are saying contraband is not even that good and just average.

Its nice you love all the songs but most people dont.
Not everyone has the same taste in music as you so dont get all pissy when people dont like the VR album.

This is for BabyGorilla and the people like him.
Before all my posts about subjective matters there should be an IMO before the post. I took this sig down but of course it has to go back up.

I believe many did not fully realize what Scott Weiland would bring to the table. Now, I never really got into STP for whatever reason (maybe i'll get around to it) but these guys made a decision, which was him. He is a FRONTMAN people, and although he is one and the x-gunners are 3, he will leave his mark on the music one way or another, regardless.

I've noticed comments on the fact that he does not seem to keep up with the "rockers" on the album, but keep in mind they are still adapting to Scott, his voice, and his style of melody... they'll only get better with time.

All in all, I'm a little surprised myself at the amount of negativity since i do not have a personal vendetta against any members, so I'll enjoy it all Cool
