Ok, I've just heard the mineapolis Velvet Revolver show and most of the "Contraband" songs. Not too bad,
BUT Axl totally blows away scott weiland on vocals. I don't say I don't like scott weiland but guys... Axl is much more creative and his voice, his lyrics, are FAAAAR better.
Axl is a far better frontman in my opinion. I think when "chinese democracy" comes out, it will blow "contraband" away. Exept maybe for "you got no right", I don't see any Velvet Revolver songs as good as Madagascar or The Blues written by Axl for the futur album "Chinese Democracy".

Dude, why come in here with this pointless bullshit, how manyt imes can you guys say it. Whats more annoying is you make a seperate thread, to get attention, like some how your thoughts are a "must-read" for everyone, post it in an existing thread

& no one's saying Axl's better or Scott's better. Its a matter of taste, hell as much as i'm liking Scott in Velvet Revolver, i long for the Axl in his prime, now, the 2002+ version he's voice is pretty awful live, even on the suposed "good shows" like MSG, his voice was flawed.

Sure Axl is a one of a kind & its not liek they're replacing Axl, they cant work with Axl, they have there own band they wanna have fun & play rock n roll & they got the best free agent out there

calm down. the probleme is that the Mineapolis bootleg of VR that I have is a very poor quality one. I know that Axl doesn't sound as great as before Live, it depends of the songs. I wouldn't say it's "awfull". On Madagascar and The blues his new voice is really ok. But it's true that on "think about you" or "you could be mine"  it's not good.
making a comparaison between scott and Axl is just normal for a fan...I find it pretty natural. and logical.

Dude why come in here and start pointless bullshit. Axl is one of THE GREATEST frontmen of all time. Of course he wipes Scott Weiland off the floor.

Slash an co can't have Axl so they've found the best person who can play with them. End of story

Comparisons will be drawn no matter what, they're not stopping anytime soon.

While you're comparison is a subjective one based on taste, here's an objective opinion based on fact.

One is a frontman who's had great success over the past 10-12 years and is now fronting a band with a huge buzz who's got an album release date, a hit single and a sold out tour.

The other is a front man, though legendary, hasn't been a relevent force on the music scene in the same 10-12 year span.

Just the facts..

Grin Axl blows away Scott on vocals? U must be kiddin  Grin just listen to any of VR live appearances and to any new GNR shows...  Grin
Scott is one of the best rock vocals nowadays, but Axl is one of the worst nowadays... he could blow anyone away in 87-93, but not now...

First of all it's hard to take anyone serious who's down with madagascar. The song is cheese. MLK speeches in the middle of a song?!?

Second, If you are trying to compare the Weiland I saw saw rock the house last Saturday night with the botoxed freak I saw embarress the fuck out of himself on LIVE television at his "big" reentry into the music scene on MTV a while back, well you're about a big of a joke as that guy who USED to be Axl Rose. He's finished, get over it already.

Axl and Scott are both great vocalists.  There styles are totally different from each other.  Axl is the greatest vocalist in my opion.  I myself don't like many bands because the singers voice doesn't appeal to me. So that leads me to
Scott.  Listen to the acoustic versions of Interstate Love Song and Son, great live voice, the guy can sing his ass off. I always thought he had his own distinct voice. That old eddie vedder wannabe hype was far from the truth, he sounds way better than Vedder, totally different, and now the whole "he's trying to be Axl" thing.  Come On!! He sounds nothing like Axl, nor does he try.  The only thing they have in common is there both bi-polar charasmatic frontmen who played with the some of the same band members and both wrote "Coma" respectively.

In a way, axl has to be the "better" frontman. GNR is riding on him. All the press has been about how this is his vision, his direction... his band. If he wasn't a good frontman, people wouldn't care about the band nearly as much.

In VR, scott isn't the only "key" member and there is a lot of media/promotion around the old gnr guys and "what happened to stp???" Scott doesn't need to be the focus of the group, because they've all got fairly big reputations (aside from poor dave) that spread the focus pretty evenly.

Comparing the two is useless. They're both good at what they do and neither of them would sound good trying to do anything else. Just enjoy them for what they are.
