New GNR's "texture" and improv ability...

Subject may be misleading, but I'm sitting here cranking out Live Era, and I was really blown away by the guitar interplay on some of the tracks. Kinda bittersweet actually, to reflect back on what made the original GNR so strong...My question I'm posing to you guys is this: You can obviously hear on the "New" GNR's shows that this 3 guitar attack definately makes the tracks sound "weightier", and it's evident that they've developed some great chemistry, but what about the leads?
Hear me out: I'm not turning this into a Slash/Bucket/Robin ability-technique discourse. What I'm noticing on Live Era though is that Slash took some great liberty with the solos, sometimes shredding, sometimes simply adding texture and playing less than what was on the records. Definately creating a "fabric" of sorts. Now, with the "New band" its undeniable that they can "play" the leads, but throughout the shows, did they vary the solos night by night or did they just play them "by the book", so to speak?...Did bucket play Nighttrain the same every night? Were all the "jams" contrived? I had a few shows, but formatted, thus I only have MSG as a full show...Let me know what you guys think....

Buckethead?s biggest talent are his improve. skills. That?s why he is so big in these jazz (fusion) kind of bands. His nightrain ?solo is awesome and different every time he plays it. Buckethead really adds his own ?Bucketness? to everything he plays in GNR. His abilities to improvise and his ?crazy second to none? style are incredible.

Buckethead sure as hell can improv. I have seen him perhaps a dozen times now, but 4 of those times were real stand outs on the improv front. The shows i'm talking about are the ones with Les Claypool, Bernie Worrell(parliament funkadelic, talking heads) and Brain. The shows he's played with them have been 100% improv with no rehearsals no songs predetermined just strait out improvisational jamming. He and brain really mesh incredibly well and have been playing together seemingly forever. I really think that Axl hiring the two of them helps out considerably for the band because they already have such a great chemistry together. I would love to see Axl let brain and buckethead just cut loose on a few of the songs but I dont know that its something all the fans are really going to want to see as I recall a few complaints from people during the last tour that buckethead was "noodling" on the guitar
.
Brain and Buckethead have 3 shows coming up starting this weekend in santa cruz if you want to check out their skills.

...and while we're on that subject, did Axl do anything arrangement-wise with the new band and these very, very old songs? Bob Dylan (who has been around before most of you were even a smile on your father's face) can take a song that was written in the the freaking 60's rearrange it and give it a new life for a live show...I mean, obviously Axl can do what he wants but it always puzzled me as to why he didn't take the time to either
a.) work up a new cover with the new guys
or
b.) spice up the old songs a bit

Scap, you're right, I had totally forgotten about Bonaroo and the CCBBB thing. I actually have a recording of that, its phenomenal. Have you ever heard Buckethead's Cajun Recipe, from 5/03/02? Was a great Jazzy-funk set, I'd recommend tracking me down on soulseek....He plays with a member of the original headhunters, the grateful dead's(?) bassist, and a few members of Galactic...
My post was directed towards his playing in GNR, specifically, but you bring up a great example..Sometimes I really think it unfortunate that the proposed CCBBB album can't come together like they wanted because of this fiasco....then again, Im just thankful that he's in my favorite band....
Noonespecial, I see what you're saying about the arrangement, but GNR's never really been that kind of band....I suppose playing KOHD in a version that more closely resembles the original shouldn't count, but again, GNR never did much to expand on their songs live...I'm trying to analyse the leads specifically...
