Title: Best/Worst cover versions Post by: The New Fiona Apple on October 16, 2003, 08:25:48 PM OK, to pass the time...what's the best/worst cover versions of any song...
I vote for Cat Power's superior reading of Satisfaction, Oasis''s "I am the Walrus,Fiona Apple "Across the Universe", Phish "revolution #9" , Social Distortion "Ring of Fire" In the bad corner, you've got Britney with the same song, William Shatner with Mr Tambourine Man, Tori Amos with Teen Spirit and Orgy with Blue Monday, the guy from Quiet Riot's "Welcome to the Jungle" and especially... "Sweet Child Of Mine" by Sheryl Crow she had no, absolutely no fucking place to cover a song done by G 'N' F'n R!!! She obviously did this song to get some money between albums. What's worse than Sheryl Crow ruining a classic metal ballad, was the movie it was for: Big Daddy. And don't tell me that movie was funny, cause it blew serious Stallion Sheath, one of Sandlers bad movies. God, a lot of rubbish... Title: Re:Best/Worst cover versions Post by: Jagged Little Pill on October 16, 2003, 08:59:57 PM the worst cover I have ever heard would have to be the ataris ( i dunno if that's spelt right ) covering Skid Row's I Remember You...way to friggen ruin a good song.
the best....I dunno...I really haven't heard to many cover songs gnr's cover of Sympathy For The Devil was pretty good. Title: Re:Best/Worst cover versions Post by: Mr. Dick Purple on October 16, 2003, 09:02:40 PM Good cover: wicked games by HIM (Chris Isaac cover) : ok:

(forgot the name, a new teenie "rock" band) doing Don Henley's "The Boys Of Summer". I never believed one could actually ruine such a beautiful song THAT much! They even changed the lyrics to "...out on the road today, I saw a Black Flag sticker on Chevrolet" or something! Absolutely terrible! Avoid this at any cost! it's the Ataris that sing that song..the same band that ruined the Skid Row song. Creed covered "Riders on the Storm"... The fact that you don't even know what song it was is fuckin lame, and also goes to show that you had made up your mind about the song before you even heard it (If you have even heard it, maybe you're just trying to sound like a hotshot). Yes, I agree, FUCK CREED, they suck really bad, and Scott Stap is a fag. However... they did a fucking good Doors cover. The song is on the tribute CD, and dare I say it was one of the best ones on the CD. They did a damn good job of it, get your head out of your ass and listen to the song before you say it sucks. Title: Re:Best/Worst cover versions Post by: Mama Kin on November 16, 2003, 03:19:59 AM Actually Creed's cover of Riders is the best on Stoned Immaculate. It really makes me mad, because I hate Creed. They did a good job, though.
Worst: Knocking on Heaven's Door: Avril Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds: William Shatner Britney Spears: Satisfaction (I still remember telling a friend when this came out. I don't really remember their names." "That would, the Stones, April" "Oh" Britney Spears: I Love Rock and Roll ("I LOVE Pat Benetar" Britney Spears, she said this is was why she covered the song.............We all know who did the song, right?) School's Out: Sebastian Bach (This is dreadful. Beyond words) Appetite for Reconstruction- the whole album. Best: Cry me a River: Aerosmith (Julie London cover) Guns: Live and let Die Alice Cooper: Fire Cum on Feel the Noise: Quiet Riot, who wrote the original? Title: Re:Best/Worst cover versions Post by: Skeletor on May 02, 2004, 07:04:58 PM sinead o connor "nothin compares 2 u" (prince cover) Didn't Prince actually write it for her? Or has he put it out on one of his albums/singles? As far as I know Prince has only sung it live. Anyways, another awesome Prince cover is 'Purple Rain' by Tori Amos. Blows my mind. 'Spaceman' by The Kovenant is a lot of fun, and 'Love Buzz' by Nirvana kicks ass. Also, Sepultura's version of 'The Hunt' is great. The Failure song 'The Nurse Who Loved Me' is brilliantly covered by A Perfect Circle, it's just larger than life. As for bad covers, Metallica's version of 'Loverman' is pretty horrible. Title: Re: Best/Worst cover versions Post by: deliverthecow on July 22, 2005, 08:03:48 PM Two great covers that come to mind are Def Leppard's acoustic version of the Stones "Cant Always Get What You Want" , and VR's cover of Nirvana's "Negative Creep". All of the covers Nirvana did were damn good as well.
The worst cover that comes to mind is Mariah Carey covering Leppard's "Bringing on The Heartbreak", I dont know what is the worst part of the song her vocals or Dave Navarro totally hacking the guitar solo. |
