Title: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: Carlos Gunner on October 30, 2023, 09:38:00 PM Mine, it was disapointing
I think they did not play with their hearts, they played very clean and precisely kinda like robots, or precisely like the album. Chinese Democracy band I was expecting a rush of emotions La Paz, Bolivia - At some point of 2013 o 2014 I know most of you people will say it was great and so... ... so Whatever Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: cineater on October 30, 2023, 10:55:13 PM It was rather bizarre for my first show in Chicago. We're talking about things we know from hanging out at the forums and people around us heard. Suddenly you're explaining things and answering questions and people start to think you're an expert in GNR and you're thinking wait a minute, I'm no GNR authority. :hihi:
Sturgis, the guy in front of us had a gun on his hip. Really, like I have an interest in seeing another woman's breasts. All I can think is sex trafficking. Especially that guy escorting that one girl up front of the stage. Yeah, we get it, she's for sale. Wished one of the band members would have taken her backstage to see if she was okay and get her the fuck out of there. Won pit tickets to Milwaukee, thanks Annie, on the rail, right in front of our hometown boy! Basically the band is standing on your head. Richard threw us goodies. My daughter got one, thanks Richard. The St Louis show, worst seats I ever had. Least of my favorite concerts. It's better to see them out of town. All of the shows I have seen live were great. All of them with my daughter and friends. Forever thankful for the band and bringing us together. :D Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: Wooody on October 31, 2023, 02:00:17 PM I saw them in 2006 and it was the best Axl vocals ever. I enjoyed it, but it was in Graspop a metal festival in Belgium and the "metal fans" were absolute garbage, yelling slash and other nonsense.
Robin was wearing a garbage bag and played like a god. Saw them again in Costa Rica with Slash but the sound was not great. Great concert though. Post by: Bodhi on October 31, 2023, 06:08:07 PM Anytime I see a new topic you start I can’t wait to click on it to see another reason why GNR suck.
I’ve been very lucky to see the band a lot over the years, I’ve enjoyed every show , real quick off the top of my head Albany 2002 (my first show). Hammerstein 2006, and Las Vegas 2016 and Atlantic City 2021 (on my 40th bday)were my favorites. I’ve seen them near 30 times and had a blast at each and every one of them. They have been my favorite band since 1992 and that’s never changing. Super grateful they are still out here doing their thing, and I’ll always go and see them when they come around. To steal a line from Tom Brady when he talks about his favorite Super Bowl ring , my favorite GNR show is always “the next one.” Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: axlroses on October 31, 2023, 06:25:27 PM I have seen them about 14 times.....best experience was getting the microphone in San Jose.....Hammerstein in 2006 was unbelievable....Reunion at the Vegas shows in 2016 were very special.
Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: jarmo on October 31, 2023, 07:34:11 PM That show in La Paz, saying it was "robotic" is just slightly amusing. They hadn't played at that altitude before. No one knew how long they would manage to play. I guess since they finished a full set, that makes them machines! LOL.
Some of the shows on this tour have really been amazing. Obviously the first one I saw will always be extra special. /jarmo Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: Natalie on October 31, 2023, 09:13:10 PM My first show was back in 2006 in Athens, Greece. I was 12 at that time. I had a fight with my dad because he didn't want me to go but went anyway lol. No regrets. I will never forget that concert, my first rock concert ever. Amazing energy and vocals. Izzy came on stage for a couple of songs.
Prague 2017 was my first reunion show and first time on the rail! Barcelona 2018, Dallas 2021 and this year's Madrid and Chicago( despite the heat) were phenomenal in my opinion. Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: Layne Staley's Sunglasses on November 01, 2023, 03:23:59 AM I used to enjoy the shows very much until I didn't, so I never went again. Kudos to the people who still have fun at the shows.
Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: AXLRIVERS on November 01, 2023, 03:33:55 AM First show Manchester UK 2006. Best show I've ever been to of anyone ever. First GnR experience live. Still to this day gives me goosebumps thinking about it. They brought Izzy out too. Band were on fire. Played their hearts outs. You could see the energy and passion. The place was a sweat fest haha. The whole place never stopped bouncing.
They came back to Manchester again in 2010 I think, again another great show. Those two performances I couldn't fault. I went to Reading 2010 and that was a bit disappointing. I remember waiting for ages and set got cut. Caught them in Liverpool maybe 2012/13 and that wasn't great. I think (only my opinion) that they all knew things were coming to an end. The energy or passion wasn't there for me. I thought they were going through the motions. More highlights were London Olympic stadium 2017. Seeing Slash n Duff back in the band was mind blowing. Great gig. London 2022 was ok. Axls voice obviously had gone and it was a shame as the gig suffered badly for it. Not his fault tho. Hyde park this year was really special. Great gig great venue. Great atmosphere. Mixed bag at times but overall great great memories. Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: Vezara on November 01, 2023, 06:46:05 AM The first time I've seen them was Budapest 2006. Up 'till then, every falling star, every birthday candle blowing, etc. I wished and dreamed of the impossible. Obviously dreams come true... I've even met the band in Belgrade in 20210, seen them again in 2011 Novi Sad, Poland 2018, Czech, Romania, Hungary... In the mean time I've also seen slash separately.
Since 2016 we have seen yet another impossible turnaround. Every single concert I have been to, was amazing, 3h+ shows. But some were extremely magical. I kind of think, that part of the impression of the show, depends on how much you are willing to participate, and what are your expectations... In 2006 it was my first, but the show was delayed for more than three hours, still when it started the band was on fire! In 2010 I had the chance, in person, to thank all of the band members for keeping the fire alive. Poland was great but the crowd wasn't so much active. Budapest this year was another magical gig. Gnr are touring for a very long time, they have been releasing some of the music that has been waiting to see the light of day. I am really excited to hear the General and Monsters. I hope and am looking forward to hear all of this live in the next couple of years... Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: Guitar1281 on November 01, 2023, 12:25:13 PM I've seen the current lineup 4 times. All good, but the latest one was the most memorable.
I live in Buffalo. While Toronto is closer, I took the trip to Pittsburgh as I didn't want to deal with the border/Toronto traffic. Pittsburgh was very good. Well, that made me want to go to Toronto two weeks later. I watched the second had market and the morning of the show, I scooped up pit tickets for half price. My friend and I went up. First, we got stuck at the border. Then traffic in Southern Ontario was a nightmare for some reason. Next, our GPS crapped out as the international data plan kicked in. What should have been a 2 hour trip, ended up taking almost four hours. We get to downtown Toronto around 7:45 parking right under the Rodgers Center. Walk around to find the pit entrance, and struggle to get the tickets loaded on wi-fi. Get in, whew, they haven't started. Go to the restroom, walk down to the pits, boom the lights go down and they start playing. They played well at Pittsburgh, but this show was something else. Slash was ON. TWAT was played, crossing that off the list of songs I hadn't heard live. 3 hours later the concert ends, we get back to the car and drive home. The show is infamous for Axl throwing out the security guards during You Could Be Mine. Apparently, a few of the personnel had been heavy-handed with a crowd surfer.

I ended up listening to the show from the car till PC.
2nd time 2017 Imola, front rows, gigantic crowd, one of the best gig i've ever been to Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: The Wight Gunner on November 03, 2023, 02:18:33 AM Leeds 2002 was special, will they, wont they show up. Finishing a decent festival line-up and getting to see Bucket do his thing. Did the original Monsters of Rock when the 2 lads were killed, but my memory of the day was hearing "Always look on the bright side of life" being played on the way out having just heard that news, thought it was sick then and still do today.

Even thought it was "Guns N' Roses" in name only, I never got a chance to see the real band in their prime. So I was pumped as hell to see Axl, finally, in whatever form. They had played the night before in Madison Square Garden to rave reviews. But of course, as we all know, on this night...Axl, he no show up. I was never so disgusted with the man. November 26, 2011 - Camden, NJ Now, we are really in the Island Of Misfit Toys Era. You had to suspend some serious disbelief to look at a stage populated by the likes of DJ Ashba and Bumblefoot and say, "yep...that's Guns N' Roses, alright." Also a bit of a downer to see the onetime biggest band in the world in what was basically an amphitheater. But no album in 20 years and a scab band, this was all they could swing in those days. Still, at least Axl showed up. Hit the stage past 11PM and played a good show. July 14, 2016 - Philadelphia, PA The concert referenced in my sig here...it was this night. Best concert of my life. Band took the stage just before about 10. And it was still 90 plus degrees. But it was an honest to goodness sold out STADIUM, which is how it should be for a band on the level of a GNR. And the crowd was so, so into it. So many of us long suffering fans that never thought we'd see anything approaching the real band again. Seeing Slash onstage playing 'Estranged' was truly magical. October 8, 2017 - Philadelphia, PA This was a Sunday. So after watching football all day, I roll downtown to see the longest GNR show of my life. They played over 30 songs. 3 hours. And, best of all, no opening act. They just went out there, on time, and crushed it. Another great show. BONUS SHOW : September 20, 2016 - Philadelphia, PA (AXL/DC) As amazing as Axl was with GNR just 2 months prior, this was the best I ever saw him perform. You can find this show on YouTube. Axl sounds out of this world. Expected to see 2016 Axl Rose and 1992-93 Axl showed up for me that night. Loudest concert of my life but also probably the coolest. Definitely the most unique. Post by: Alan on November 13, 2023, 01:30:28 PM Hammersmith and Donnington in 2006 were great for different reasons
Hammersmith because it's a tiny venue for a band the size of GnR, and Donnington because they came out early and shit was going all kinds of wrong, but they persevered and finished the set off with a lot of people who were initially there to hate having their opinions changed Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Carlos Gunner obviously needs Izzy, but what about the rest? /jarmo Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: Dr. Blutarsky on November 30, 2023, 09:42:32 AM Ive seen them 5 times the band themselves were always on point and good. The variables were other factors.
My last time seeing them was probably the worst, this was in 2017 in Miami. I went with a group of people and I bought a single seat , we all bought tickets separately so we were a bit scattered. I was crammed in the middle of a row and two guys om my right were already drunk and the guy next to me was a bigger guy and had to scream at about every note played and held his arms in the air so wide he blocked my view partially. A little over halfway thru the set they got kicked out by security. So the rest of the show was better. Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: MrMojoRa on December 04, 2023, 08:09:20 PM 8-13-88 (Pine Knob, Clarkson, Mi)
Guns opened for Aerosmith. Nobody cared anymore when Aerosmith took the stage. 6-11-91 (Hershey, Pa) Pre-UYI release. Duff was drunk by the time he hit the stage. A fan cut his hand with a knife. 12-16-91 & 12-17-91 (Philly) Craziest 48 period of my life. GN'R didn't hit the stage until around fucking midnight both nights but then played for 2 1/2 hours or more if I remember correctly. After the first show I only got a couple hours of sleep, if that, then had to go back to work the next day. Then got home ever later after the second show......didn't get more than an hour then back to work. After work that second day, I slept 16 hours straight. GN'R Rocked. Gilby had replaced Izzy by then. 12-06-02 (Philly Riot) Never got to see Bucket live with Guns. So disappointing....very depressing. I could feel the riot coming. MixMasterMike was booed off the stage. I saw some arena staff scurrying into some side doors so I grabbed my wife and a friend and started heading for the exits. On our way out we could hear toilets being ripped from bathroom walls. As we were exiting the parking lot, a sea of Philly Police and State Trooper Cars were flying in. THEY FUCKED THAT ARENA UP! 5-12-06 (Hammerstein, NY) Caught their very next show 4 years later. BEST CONCERT OF MY LIFE. Felt like GN'R were playing in a pub it was so up close and personal. AMAZING! 10-10-06 (MSG, NY) Incredible show! Worth the drive from Philly to NY and back all in one night. 11-26-11 (Camden, NJ) Seats were great. I thought DJ was phenomenal on stage in this show. Axl was AMAZING! 7-14-16 (Philly) NOT IN THIS LIFETIME! The return of Slash & Duff. The live debut of SORRY! (I think). I was in the first row. Met jarmo  Title: Re: Tell us about your experience in a GNR concert! Post by: jarmo on December 05, 2023, 07:39:09 AM 7-14-16 (Philly) NOT IN THIS LIFETIME! The return of Slash & Duff.
