Snakepit?  Really?   ???  Which lineup?

Oh man, I would love this. I have been on a Snakepit binge the past month.

In my opinion, the It's Five O'Clock Somewhere band is a more talented band. The arrangements in some of the songs are some of the most intricate in Slash's career and the other instrumentalists push these arrangements to another level. Where the album suffers, in my opinion, is that the tone of the songs is relatively the same throughout the album, and Eric Dover has some limitations. He shines on Back and Forth Again, Beggars and Hangers On, and Dime Store Rock as well as others but has limited range.

Ain't Life Grand almost has the opposite problem, the drummer and bass player are average but the songs have different tones and feel across the album. Rod Jackson has a bit more dynamics than Eric Dover but neither is my favorite lyricist. Ain't Life Grand, while not having the same complexity as Five O'Clock, just has some fun songs and to me, while the rest of the band doesn't nearly reach the same level, the fast/sleazy/fun attitude is the closes that Slash has gotten to the feel on Appetite in his career.

I doubt Slash will reunite with Rod Jackson.  In his book, Slash referred to Jackson as someone who turned out to be a "worthless junkie" or something to that effect.

Don't forget, Dizzy Reed was part of the first Snakepit record as well.  He was once quoted as saying, "I'm not signing that fucking record!"

I loved "Mean Bone" and "Serial Killer" though, two of Slash's absolute best songs post-GNR.
