Title: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! Post by: TheBaconman on March 01, 2017, 01:41:00 PM So this was a nice little surprise.
In my email inbox was message from Metallica telling me that since I recently purchased a ticket to a upcoming show I now receive a copy of there new album. This copy can be a physical copy, digital or you can send it off as a gift. All totally free. (included as part of the ticket) I think this is awesome and really wish my fav band in the world Guns N Roses would do this. Guns is playing a show in the same city 2 weeks after. I don't care if this is to increase ticket sales (I didn't even know about it and bout a ticket) I don't care if the album is mostly rubbish (I do actually like a couple of songs off it and its new material) What a great gift to the fans. New original material!!!!!!! Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! Post by: GeorgeSteele on March 01, 2017, 02:39:22 PM It's not the band's choice to do that, it's the record company's, which Guns are still under contract with. Metallica can do this because they're independent. Sad but TRUE! ;) Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! Or Is it the record companies choice to include albums of anything when ever they want...... Easy choice though when there is no new material to release Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! Post by: allwaystired on March 01, 2017, 03:00:26 PM A cynic could suggest that it's because people weren't buying the new Metallica album........
After all, what sort of a fan has tickets to see a band and hasn't bought the album they're touring? That's pretty weird. Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! After all, what sort of a fan has tickets to see a band and hasn't bought the album they're touring? That's pretty weird. I think there album debuted #1 and last year the band toped all rock bands in sales. Like I said its cool that a band would do this. Its cool a band is actually promoting original music as well I am not even close to being a huge Metallica fan. I have never actually seen them live before. I am looking forward to them playing some of there hit as well as some new music and perhaps old stuff I have never even heard before. You think it is weird for someone to see a concert and not buy that bands recent album? Damn I would I would have thousands of random albums in my place then. Every bar band, lounge band I have seen that has a recent album would sure love you !!!! Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! Otherwise it's just nostalgia right? I won't go out of my way to purchase new music from most bands. There has to be really something more to it. I.e fav band of all time, been at a concert new songs catch my ear like them but the, something on radio new, etc I am going to a lot of concerts the way I see lots of people going to guns n roses concerts now. As a a casual fan. I may even stand in line for hour for yum yums. Stand still with no dancing to the music. And try and to record most of the show on my phone and take pictures of myself. Hahahaha. No I don't see why people are saying actually. If anything my comments have shown there is a huge demand for these albums Meratillica. And some what similiar sized band is playing the exact same venue Guns I playing here It actually sold out in around 20 mins. Guns you can still by tickets Metalllicas new album debuted number and has sold very well I am sure hard core fans of this band loved having a new album to buy. As a soft core fan it sure was cool getting the album as a surprise Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! That's what most people think about Guns. There's not many hardcore fans. Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! No that's not what I said I said specifically for the band The Red Hot Chili Peppers, I have zero interest in any of there new music they are promoting. I heard it, I don't like it. I really like there older stuff and lots of it, so I am hoping to enjoy the show. I welcome new music from most bands, I wont go out of my way to purchase it, unless I hear something and like it usually. Just not buying something just off of a bands name.... Just like Metallica I peronsally did not like the new material from the red hot chilli peppers. That's one band So yea. I hope more people are like me Welcome new music from any band. Then use there own mind and taste to support either the new music or the tour or both I do think most people just don't by a album because they are seeing a concert or because the bands name is on the cover I think you are the minority Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! I can't quite work out Baconman's thinking here. You call Guns sets 'horrible', yet they're playing all their hits. At the same time you don't want to see RHCP play anything new. I don't get the logic there at all. What is it you want from a live gig?! Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! How on earth could you actually tell how much you would of enjoyed the show. Judging from those two set lists you supplied, I am def a very soft core fan. I don't know half the songs. I will post how my feelings are on the show after I see them in may. I don't think so. I think it's actually clear cut. To me, it all comes down where you play and what you charge. The bigger the venue, the more casuals you will draw. The higher the price, the fewer chances you can take. In other words, when GNR is playing stadiums and charging $100-250 a seat, you have to load that setlist up with the hits and the better known songs. You can't charge those proces and say you are skipping SCOM or YCBM. They need to be heard, or people are pissed. A song like 'Coma' is the true outlier. And, I'll bet if you asked people who saw this past tour, a lot of people would say that was not a highlight of the show to them. Flipside, if you play a smaller place at a lower price, you are all but telling people that this is not your usual show. That sort of show is for the diehards. There you can skip some of the hits. Or play a totally reworked version of them. You can play album cuts. Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! Much as I'd love GNR to run through Breakdown, Locomotive, Catcher In The Rye, Deadhorse etc, I truly don't expect it. Most you can hope for in a set at a big level is a couple of nods to album tracks/less well known material. I do sort of admire acts like Bob Dylan though that go out there and say "that was then, this is now, and to hell with what people want". They do end up playing smaller venues though, but there's a certain 'fuck you' attitude to it which I admire. They're prepared to take a cut on what they earn in order to play different stuff. That's sort of admirable. Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! I do totally agree with this statement and it hold true for most bands BUT Guns N Roses, no matter the size of the venue or crowd, have primarily been playing the same set list, with the a bunch of covers, for many many many many years. You could almost argue that these bigger shows have seen more deep cuts/odd ball songs from guns, along with more covers.... But again I would say no matter the size of the crowd or venue with this band 85% of the set list has been the same Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! Post by: LunsJail on March 08, 2017, 04:50:25 PM I bet it would be pretty good for big RHCP fans though, who get tired of the band playing the same songs all the time? It's a tough one to call. It may be admirable but everyone I know that saw Bob Dylan in the last 15 years was wildly disappointed. They weren't necessarily hardcore fans but I'd say that demographic makes up 80% of the crowd even in a smaller venue. Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! I saw Dylan recently- fucking loved it. Barely knew anything in the set (but I knew that was going to be the case) but it was fantastic. Everyone I know that has seen him thought he was shit though yeah! I think I got lucky to be honest- the show got a 5/5 review in a lot of papers, and all the reviewers were surprised! For some reason, the show just worked! Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!! Post by: Virolec on March 26, 2017, 07:38:02 PM I would expect Guns N' Roses to have less varied sets than those bands - they have less material to draw on. Bob Dylan has 38 studio albums, 26 EPs and 85 singles. Metallica have eleven albums, five EPs and 39 singles. Red Hot Chili Peppers have eleven albums, five EPs and 44 singles. I've remarked more than once that Guns N' Roses must be one of very, very few bands to be at that kind of level (in terms of recognition, iconic status, media buz, ticket sales, whatever) without actually releasing all that much music over the course of their career. For such a big band, their back catalogue is actually pretty thin, and that's even with a covers album included.
This thread reminds me of my dad telling me of a gig he went to back in the seventies or eighties. John Otway was doing a tour, and his thing was that to get in you had to have a copy of his new single as well as a ticket. :hihi: Title: Re: Metallica New Album Free With Ticket Purchase, Come On Guns!!!
