It was show #2. Considering it's been 7 weeks since the last show of the previous leg of the tour, I'd think it has more to do with traveling (long flights, cabin pressure, climate/temperature difference, etc.). Axl probably (hopefully) just has a little case of the sniffles and with your very sound medical advice of "a few hot whiskeys and honey," should be 100% for the next scheduled show. That said, it's his first show in months. Always willing to give a pass for that first handful. Now, he still sounds like this in the summer...well, that's a problem. For the love of god like Ali said there is obviously a different approach to AC/DC.... but people insist on comparing his efforts between the two shows. If you are unhappy that Axl doesn't sound the same to when he was younger just please listen to the cd's and watch the old videos. You don't have to go to the shows and nobody here cares about your issues with his voice. His voice at his age for the amount of strain he puts it thru is incredible in my opinion. This tour has been nothing short of a dream come true on all fronts. When something is great and beatiful we are going to talk about that, when something is not that great or horrible we are going to talk about that. Simple as that. The problem with saying that is because it's a health issue (cold/flu/etc) as opposed to a singing voice issue (pitch/vocal range/etc).Watching & listening "live" on my laptop via someone's cell phone streaming, IMO Axl and the band sounded just fine. It wasn't until hearing Axl making what sounded to me like woofing noises did it get my attention that there was something off. (at first I thought it might be him joking with the crowd by some kind of nod to a local cartoon character similar to Deputy Dawg or something) Even with the health issues, Axl not only soldiered through but did so at a high caliber of passion n' stamina considering it was only the second show. My concern is more on a personal level. These shows go on around 4:30 or 5 AM in the morning my time so I'm physically and empathetically groggy. I really enjoy and appreciate the periscope and facebook streams but I admit it upsets me to watch thinking/knowing that Axl is not feeling well. (example: I was nervous when his foot cast came off and he being mobile again on stage for fear of him being in pain or maybe causing himself additional injury). I also have a lot of empathy for the crowd because, as many of us have witnessed at our own shows, nothing beats seeing Axl & GNR live and it would suck if - for whatever reason - someone in the band could not bring their A-game. I'm sure it will all be fine. I'm sure it will all be fine, too. |
