Title: U.S. Arena tour?
Post by: inlikeflynn420 on November 25, 2016, 03:40:21 PM
I live in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We have a (very) minor league baseball stadium here. There is an electronic billboard out front that cycles through different ads, mostly for sponsors of the ballpark. Today as I was driving by, I saw the GnR bullet logo behind the word "PATIENCE", with "GnFnR" off to the side. I went around the block to snap a photo. As the ads cycled, another one popped up, but this one said "WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE". They kept popping up in the rotation, every 7 ads or so. The stadium only holds about 6000 for concerts, and the only concert they've had there in years was Peter Frampton/Lynrd Skynrd this past summer. So, I really doubt it's for a show there. Philly is about an hour and a half away, so I doubt they'd advertise for there. Hershey is closer, maybe a half hour, so I could see that. The Giant Center gets pretty much all the big acts. It just took me by surprise. SOMETHING is happening. Weird...

Any theories?

A version of it was aired on TV in the USA...

But the one on the GN'R Youtube doesn't say it's for the US, or any other country.

My friend saw that sign in Lancaster as well!!  He didn't get a photo but assuming this is yours: https://www.instagram.com/p/BNQQRcJApuI/
You're totally right about the stadium.  It's a small size in a residential area.  They don't hold many concerts.  When Skynrd played my buddy and a bunch of others just sat on back porches and could hear the entire concert perfectly.  I saw Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson together when the stadium first opened(Dylan was awful, Willie was awesome and should have headlined)...anyway hope to see GN'R somewhere close!!  I'm out past Harrisburg but Hershey Stadium would be awesome if the GN'R ban from the Illusions tour is lifted!  Mostly a volume issue anyway but the Giant Center only holds 10k. Bryce Jordan Center in State College may be more likely but still only 15k just seems a little small for all they did last summer.  Hershey Stadium holds 30K so that would seem more reasonable but either way I'll be going somewhere!!

Also interesting the multiple stages(believe there are 4) for "Not In This Lifetime" were designed and built close to Lancaster in Lititz,Pa.

I missed the first leg because I was broke at the time. Maybe the tix will even be cheaper since the reunion buzz has leveled.

Never thought I'd get the chance to see GNR live (with Slash, that is). ;D

Wrong.

Your cheapest way to see the band would of been to see them in 60 000 stadium and one of the low end tickets in the second night of a two night date

Tickets for a 15 000 are not going to be cheap.   They will play smaller markets they didn't hit the first time but for a extremely high ticket price

And I will pay it

The ticket prices might stay the same.

How do you know the venues will be smaller then?

Could might as well be stadiums, and I definitely don't see a rise in prices then.

Really??

I am glad I got off of what is being talked about

What is being advertised

What the title of this thread is

Arena not stadium

If the market is there prices will be higher.

People better not complain.

If you want cheap tickets go see them in these giant stadiums and giant festivals.

I prefer smaller venues.

Hockey arenas are perfect for live music.

Hope they play Vegas again as I missed them last time

Hope they change up the set list. Advertise it and change a ticket price that reflects it.

If there's an arena tour I highly doubt we'll see a major increase in ticket prices, especially if they're doing smaller markets like the one mentioned in the OP.

Vegas though is a perfect example of a small venue in a big market, prices will be high.

Who ever said major?

Prices will be higher for arena shows if the market demands it.    Easy

There has been advertising in markets that only has arenas.  That is the whole point of his

But like you said.  The op pointed out why this is a threat.  Why he saw something locally.

Why would anyone want a smaller venue at cheaper tickets???

Let's get every bum out that couldn't afford the 40 bud for the satadiim shows. ....  ugh. No

Let's play small Venues.  With a great set list    For a good price.

I will not however see gnr here in Edmonton if the set list is exactly the same as this tour.    Nope.

First of all, we have NO IDEA what size venues they are lining up. Ads on billboards mean very little.

But if they are doing smaller shows, I'm sure they will still be bigger venues in places like NYC, that's just common sense. I highly doubt prices will increase. They will at least stay the same, roughly speaking (of course no nosebleeds in smaller venues).

You said "smaller markets that they didn't hit the first time but for a extremely high ticket price".

I just don't think the prices will rise that drastically, simple.

You seem to think that I don't wanna pay the price or something.... I have no clue where you got that idea. I'm not even in the States, I'm not going to these shows, I was merely making a comment giving my view on price and demand.

When the Euro dates are coming around, I'll attend a couple of shows regardless of the price.

Dubai is closer to Europe than the US.

From that point of view, it would make sense to do Europe first. Also, the outdoor season is kinda short in some parts of Europe, but you can always play indoor venues when it's cold.

That's what I had in mind, March/April is still sorta soon for an evening outdoor concert many places in Europe, but of course there could be a longer break after Dubai.

Production-wise, how much equipment do they bring from home beside their instruments? I think that's what you were hinting at, the logistics.

For the stage itself, it wouldn't matter if they played Dubai, then went back home for a leg, and then to Europe? The stage construction is materials provided locally isn't it? Maybe even more so if the NA leg is in fact an arena run, much of the on-stage production would be different stuff, like in Vegas.

I'm just thinking out loud here, but the giant screens, staircases and everything might not fit on an arena stage.

Cheers. Had spotted that, but not entirely convinced it's genuine. Looks just a bit different in font, and we've not seen one like that yet. I like the look of the bit on that Portugese paper though (see other thread!)

For me, the American dates coming much later in 2017 makes more sense- do Europe in the summer, then back to USA for indoor shows. It's strange though that these shows are receiving some sort of promotion if they are to take place after Europe, and we're not seeing much promotional activity in Europe. Could we be looking at America in the summer, then perhaps indoor shows in Europe later in the year?

I honk arenas are a lot trucker to book than stadiums.

An arena can be filled 300 nights a year   What's an American football arena filled for?  15 dates tops?  Double that if they all host an MLS team like Seattle

So if you have to book an arena a lot sooner you should get promotion and and announcement sooner

Here in Edmonton they are advertising arena concerts one years away. How could anyone book a ticket for 1 year away! Haha.  I can only do that for blue jays games

So perhaps Europe will be stadium shows and they don't need as much notice to book a venue

The Canadian cities with confirmed billboards so far are Regina, Winnipeg and Montreal...along with Minneapolis, Buffalo and St. Louis in the States. It's gonna be another stadium tour, this time all across Canada and cities in the states that they missed this summer. Regina has a brand new football stadium and it's been confirmed by a source that GNR are playing the new stadium in Regina in the summer...couldn't get an actual month out of the guy though. But it will be another stadium run and not the rumoured arena tour. A stadium tour across Canada will probably be 8 or 9 shows, plus a few more US shows should put the tour around a month and a half long, which still leaves plenty of time before or after to do a summer European tour as well.

Does anyone recall the timing for when announcements were made for the the summer tour and when teases or billboards popped up? If history repeats itself and they stick with the game plan then that might determine whether it's a spring (march or april) tour vs. a fall tour. I'd guess it would be earlier with the billboards coming. I doubt they'd pay rent for an entire year but who knows.

I think the summer US this year got announced in February- but the timings were probably impacted by whatever arrangement they had with Coachella in terms of exclusivity etc.

The Summer tour was announced on April 1, same day as the Troubadour concert.

Billboards had been popping up in the week before.

Oh of course! Was it Coachella that got announced in February then?

Hmm.. no Coachella was announced on Jan 4.

Either the Mexico City or Vegas shows probably.

Just spotted a GNR Welcome to the Jungle billboard off of route 581 in Camp Hill, PA, which is relatively close to Hershey! Saw them in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia over the summer, but Hershey would be ideal for me if the ban is lifted!

Now you are talking!!  Regional advertising for a central PA concert..a little more proof they are not playing little Clipper Stadium..hopefully announcement soon.  I work in Camp Hill part time and drive on 581.  Where is it close to so I can drive past tomorrow and get a photo?  Or you or anyone can beat me to it..just want a photo anyway!!   :)

I've been hearing that the Canadian and most likely American dates will be announced sometime next week...possibly Monday.

I'm guessing those and Europe dates announced Monday, on sale Friday. Ticket sales here in the UK are usually on a Friday.

Sorry I didn't go that way today or I would have snapped a picture. It's on 581 between Lemoyne and Camp Hill......driving towards the Camp Hill exit.

Thanks. So if history repeats itself then we could be getting an official list in a week or so with dates this spring. Of course, all just speculation.

Pros and cons of living in Kentucky.  A dollar goes a long way, but if you want to see GNR you gotta travel  : ok:

Hope you get your show.

I wonder if they would still refer to it as the "Not in this Lifetime" tour considering it did go through most major cities in the U.S. already or will it be known as "Still not in this lifetime" lol  :peace:

Thread should be switch to Canadian arena tour? ha

So are some big stadiums in a couple of these markets.  I would be curious to see if guns plays them (ala Ac/DC), or they stick to the arenas

It's a stadium tour...all of those cities have big football stadiums, and it's basically been confirmed they are playing the brand new stadium in Regina. Also if it were an arena tour they would be playing in Saskatoon and not Regina. Saskatoon has the big arena and Regina has the big football stadium in the province of Saskatchewan.

My company is forcing us to to us all our holidays this summer so they can cut cost so I'am really hoping, if the Regina show is happening that it will be in July if not it's a fifty fifty chance I can see them in my home province still a very long drive for me.

So you agree
The title of this thread is totally wrong

Seems if the show isn't in the eastern United States.  People hear don't want to talk about it m

Let's go Canada.   Great live music fans around

Lifetime ban in Montreal stadium but I have a feeling that's not really being looked at anymore.

Looks like one of the Italy shows jumped the gun a bit and announced the show for Saturday June 10th...meaning the North American shows will probably be End of July and August. It won't be in May because it's going to be another outdoor stadium tour and May nights are still a bit cold for that...especially in Canada.

Where did you find the info about the Billboard in Greensboro? Axl played there with AC/DC this year and GNR toured there in 2006.

Awesome!!  Would like to see a photo of that!  My photos are added from Flickr but check "How to Post Pictures" thread to see how to add them here.  Maybe Monday there will be an official announcement!  Still hoping for the Stadium instead of the Giant Center but will be going either way!  Hopefully tickets do not go on sale until after Christmas because money is tight right now!

Last night went to see the billboards you told me about on Wednesday.  Drove all the way up 581 from Camp Hill to past Harrisburg to see if there were any more.  Very busy highway even at 9:30pm as expected.  On the way back I spotted the billboard exactly where you said.    Had to park about 2,000 feet away at the previous ramp and walk to get halfway closer but was way off the road.  Would get lost driving off the exit to who knows where.  Still would be cool to see a photo from the daytime to get an idea of how large it is..full size billboard anyway!  The address came up as Lemoyne,Pa
