Metallica?

My guesses:
Metallica- they are dropping album soon, they have toured with before, they are a big draw still.
Green Day- again, dropping album soon, inducted GNR into HOF.
Temple of the Dog- dropping album soon of reissues, people want to see them and they are doing a small tour, duff connection.
Pearl Jam- don't know about album but duff connection.
Soundgarden- duff connection, no album though, that I know of.
Janes Addiction

Green Day - I didn't think of them. That is actually the most likely choice of those you mentioned.

There is nearly ZERO chance Metallica will "open" for Gn'R. They are way too big in their own right (for many, much bigger than Gn'R) and besides the popularity of them or any other band, there's too many egos in play.

Green Day has been a pretty hot rumor out there.  Steven Tyler (solo) would make sense.

From day 1, I still think Foo Fighters....

Members of Green Day were at Seattle??

I reckon Green Day. That'll be wicked.

I like the surprise element of not knowing who will open. However, if it were a band that huge like Metallica I think they would have announced it already. That's a lot of money to throw a opener only to announce a day or so before a show. Just my opinion.

Title: Re: Los Angelos
Post by: dmathski on August 15, 2016, 01:33:27 PM
I'm thinking they will announce Tue or Wed. Tonight they play in AZ. If this is a pretty huge band maybe they're thinking they don't want to announce now cause it could prevent fans from buying tix in Az and go to LA or SD (I assume this big opener would be the same in SD and LA). But going out with a bang is VERY smart. It would ensure the remaining tickets are sold and the publicity from it is key as this tour will keep going through next year.

My money is on Green Day.

I can't go. I really really wish I could.

Green Day is neck and neck with Guns 'N' Roses as the band that molded my taste in music.

Guns 'N' Roses got me into music. Green Day got me into punk. And I've mostly existed as a punk musician and punk fan since 1994.

I knew the LA shows were going to be special but you gotta choose your battles and I chose Vegas, Coachella, Philly, and NJ.

Go to this show if you can!!

Oh man, I would love it if it were Green Day.

You guys have any idea what time they would come on? I need coordinate with someone else on my arrival to Dodger Stadium.

Guns n Roses playing with Green Day would be an interesting dichotomy: Supreme musicianship vs. a complete lack thereof

Sounds like for sure it's Green Day.  All that's said is LA though. I assume they would open in San Diego also...??

Right, but 90% of the bands you mentioned are some of the biggest bands on the planet....they don't open shows, bands open for them.

In these unusual times I'd plump for ACDC with Axl being the supporting act, just because...... And don't forget, ACDC has their own singer so why would they employee a guest vocalist, like I said unusual times  ;)

EDIT: Just to add, the way this band has been this year at the top of their game, how could you top that? ^^^^^^^^

Is anyone here actually serious with any of these posts?

Where would the money be in having a big name opening act and not promoting it?

Guns hasn't had a big name opener yet this tour.  Why now?   It's like thinking they are going to change up the set list or hope for a guest act.

They seem to have a formula that is printing money for them right now.  Why change it.  I wouldn't. Not until this leg of the tour is over

I wonder if you are serious. AIC and The Cult have opened for GN'R this tour. The Cult will open in L.A. it has been confirmed in the GN'R oficial social media.

Sure neither band is Metallica nor The Rolling Stones but they are still big names

I just nabbed a couple GA Tickets for tomorrow night's show but got a little freaked out with the tickets stating a start time of 6:30.   I cannot make it to the venue till 9:30 at the earliest but that was always plenty of time to catch GNR hit the stage...I am not so sure with this one...could one of you insiders give me the realistic timeframe of when GNR will hit the stage in LA tomorrow?  If it really is around 8pm then I should probably move my tickets for someone to enjoy the whole show.  If they come on at 9pm then I would get a good hour and a half...it is kind of a dilemma for me....argh!!  Thanks gunners for any info!!  I will be at the show on Friday with plenty of time but tomorrow is scaring me...regards

That is doors but still seems early....I still have to believe in a 9:30 Start time.  I think SF had a curfew but not sure that LA has the same....I just hope they start as late as possible and that I'm there...I'm bringing a friend for his first GNR show but he is committed till 9pm in Santa Monica....I wanted him to see most of the show for full effect but even if they start at 9 he will get a nice dose...peace  :peace:

One of the biggest crowds in this North American leg?

Since it's a baseball stadium, there won't be many unused seats behind the stage as in the football stadiums, and with a capacity of 56,000 plus the floor we might see the highest single show attendance tonight I think.

I say yes start a new thread with the header you usually use with location and date. It's easier to find after the show. Then start new one for tomorrow's show.

There's an album called Live Era... have you ever heard about it? A lot of artists release DVD's with the best performances of the tour, so you don't have to listen a song with an error every time you watch it. This is not something I just created.

No shit. But you pointed out that mistakes were made, as if that is some uncommon, noteworthy occurrence for a live show. And Live Era had studio work to "augment" the performances. Which made it less than a full and complete "live" album.

Live Era is not exactly what you call "live album". only some of the songs are genuine live tracks, most of them are lightly or heavily edited in the studio, including re-recorded vocals.

Everybody knows what they did. But that's not what I am suggesting, that was just a close example of a similar method. They could easily pick performances with no mistakes (what is perfectly normal and acceptable when you're playing) since when on disc they will last forever. One more time: a lot of artists do this.

I disagree. What a lot of artists do is what GN'R did for Live Era. Regardless, if you have a completely mistake free live performance, it probably wasn't strictly a "live" performance.

One of the reasons why i like the Tokyo 1992 release so much. And to some degree Appetite For Democracy . Is that its not a compilation of shows. Its One  show with minimum edits.

Its shows what was it like to be at the Tokyo dome in 02.22.92 Bum notes included.

Live dvds that are a compilation of 10 shows plus studio overdubs are always pretty lifeless imo.

According to Alternative Nation (I know, I know) the show indeed had professional video crew recording it. But if Eddie Trunk said the same, seems that this picture is indeed true:

Live Era still has mistakes. Rocket Queen with just one guitar and Coma with some fuck ups by Gilby (even tho its a bonus track from Japan).

I know they've used one camera crane in the shows to film for the big screens.

But this one looks like it's for the purpose of a broadcast level shoot:

unbelievable isn't it....Stinson hits the nail on the head right here...from Billboard a few days ago....
"Stinson is particularly happy for frontman Axl Rose, whom he feels is benefiting greatly from both the GN'R reunion and his recent stint with AC/DC. "I think it was really super important for Axl to get the [GN'R reunion] going on and put some stuff behind him that I think has been sitting inside him," Stinson says. "I think something has happened to him and it's completely f---ing awesome and it makes me really happy. I've known the guy for almost 20 years now; I've never seen him look better. He sounds better than ever. He's a completely different guy. I couldn't be happier for him."

I really respect Tommy. He always came across as a genuine guy and I couldn't agree more with him.
Axl seems happy and light, he seems to be enjoying himself again. And yes, people can say it's all about the money, but I really believe there's a big personal meaning for all three of them.

Reconciliation with Slash, in whatever form it may be currently, was obviously the monkey off his back. Then, he does the AC/DC thing where he is the hired Gun. The discipline he learned from that...the humility. You can see that influence big time in the Gnr shows. The spacing kept between the players is intentional. Everybody gets their chance to shine....no egos on the stage....give the fans what they pay top dollar to see...and more.

You're always going to have people at a concert like that. I agree the texting is annoying, but I welcome the video recording. Though also annoying, it allows me to watch the concert I was at again afterwards. I don't think it's just an US deal. If it were only the US, we wouldn't have a treasure of GNR videos from shows in Europe, Etc. on YouTube.

I'd be willing to bet that all of those things you mentioned are universal and not exclusive to the US. People are on their phones constantly all over the world. I agree that it's a little ridiculous, but that's just the way it is. And I'm pretty sure people eat and drink all over the world too, which in turn would increase the need to go the restrooms. The only thing I'll agree with is that US crowds are more tame at concerts. I've been to shows and been yelled at just for standing, even at football games. Alright, perhaps alcohol may have factored in. Some people see others having more fun than them and they like to put a stop to it. Jealousy I guess.

I don't have a problem with people eating at shows, but those that drink so much that they need to pee 2 or more times during shows (those seated) are a pain in the arse, FFS don't you guys know your bladder

That said, I hate sitting at shows, which is why I prefer seeing GnR at festivals

Is this an American thing....   Durrin concerts for people to play on there phones, constantly go go get drinks and food??

I am used to goin to concerts where people are there for the music.  Where people dance and sing to the music.  Not txt people about how great of a time they are having or watch it threw there phone while they record it for later.

I don't get it

No, it's a 2000's thing.

And generally apparent around the world.  I have friends all over the place..they report (and some are annoyed by...just like you) the same general behavior, especially amongst the younger set.

But beer runs have been a thing, around the world, during shows for...IDK...40 years?

Maybe Canada is different.....though I know the phone thing isn't.  The food and drink thing...maybe you guys are just so pissed and stuffed when you get to the venue, you're stuck to your seats. ;P

Yeah it's not a sporting event.  With down time.  Where you are sitting for the most part.  Where you can eat.    It's a concert that lasts a couple of hours.  Really. You really needed those nachos with extra cheese?

Lookin at a lot of the footage it looks like a lot of people go just to say they where there.   Instaid of enjoying it in the moment

I get the objection, and I'm with you.  I do my drinking and eating (and peeing) before the show.

I have friends around the globe who feel the same, and a few who don't (especially about the drinking part).

But every one, when we've had this discussion, says it happens there too.  But, tbh, I don't think I have  a single Canadian friend who has participated in the discussion. Swedish, Japanese, Irish, Scottish, English, Australian, and my South American buddies, too....they all report the same thing: Having to get up and down 100 times during a show to let someone pass to get food, beer, or piss.  Or that their seat neighbor spends the whole show, standing there, giving a blow by blow (with a couple of selfies thrown in) on SM.  :P  It's not just the US, for sure.

The phone thing bothers me less, if they are recording/streaming/etc the show.  It's the constant access to SM like twitter, insta, and FB that makes me go WTF. Why even go?  But to each their own.

It really depends on the concert though. I was at a punk festival last week (Bulgaria, Europe) and I can tell you that you couldn't survive (or at least your burger or cell phone couldn't) during the sets of the bands. Anyways, it pisses me off as well. It even pisses me off that you have these seats on the ground there in America. :D

Look to the outsides of the pit...you'll still see those with nses in phones or cups.

The seats on the floor IS a US thing, specifically a US fire code and liability thing.

Saw Eddie trunk tweet that he expects Steven to play with the band again REALLY soon ....

Sounds like tonight to me.

Bacon ... We get that you hate the U.S... But stop being ridiculous.

No one ever got a beer outside of America.

Non-U.S. concerts...real straight edge affairs.

I responded to these once.  It got deleted

Sure this one will as well. So I won't put much time into it

That's just my boy Jarmo looking out for me.  We go way back.
