For what it's worth some people in the chat claims the GN'R streaming times are just the window for when the stream will start, not the length of the stream. Some said the whole set would be streamed.

They are not mods there or anything, so they could just be assuming. Could be worth tuning in though.

Going by how they've set up the times for all other acts, I'd say the GN'R stream is 15 mins long.

But I can't go by anything other than that. Logic tells me they would have put up "GN'R: 1240 - 0300" or something if they intended to show the whole set.

That could be, obviously it wouldn't be live then.

I don't think any of the performances streamed are actually live.

I would think normally they would stick to the more mainstream material for a festival crowd. But the bands on this bill are so eclectic that I don't think it really matters. So anything is possible. But I wouldn't expect anything too crazy or different.

Ice Cube on stage now

Surely the rest of Disclosure Ice Cube and Zedd won't last another 3 1/2 hours which is the listed time for GNR.

Going by the times posted:

Disclosure's set should be 55min, that means the stream should end at 0945 pm.

If they then start Ice Cube 5 mins later, which should be onstage for 50min, that stream will end at 1040pm.

Same deal with Zedd, set lasts for 55min, the stream should end at 1145pm.

GNR's stream was scheduled to start at 1240am.....




Now, one possibility is they simply have switched the original Silversun Pickups with Disclosure stream for some reason. Then you got another act on the stream before GNR, and the time will likely be around 1240am come GNR.

Why not? It's a valid criticism-and I guarantee before the day is out I get a text from someone I know taking the piss and making comments about how the crowd didn't care. Need to be prepared for that! But then, over the years, I've had the piss taken out of me regarding this band so much I don't even bite now!

Yeah, it's a damn shame! Part of me is alright with it though. If they were streaming the whole thing I'd have to stay up for it. Since they only streamed 15 minutes I went to bed, set my alarm, watched for 15 minutes, and now it's back to sleep.

About the crowd:

First off, you can't buy "day passes" to Coachella, you buy a pass for the whole weekend. That means a more diverse crowd because people are buying passes based on a wider selection of bands.

Second, a lot of people bought passes before the line-up for the festival was known, last summer.

It's definitely not a regular GN'R crowd.

They'd never give away the whole show.

Think of it like a comedian.  If you see the act on Youtube, do you buy a ticket?

Axl's entrance and exit were interesting. The lights were still dim as I saw Axl speed out on one of those push scooters that you kneel your injured leg on. He was pretty quick on it, and might've been the first band member on stage. After the curtain call, Axl tripped over the base of his throne and fell to the stage. Slash picked him up and held onto him as he crutched off the stage.

They are living legends.


As individuals they are at a legend-level above the guys in GN'R, mostly because they've been around longer and is their inspiration.

Is it just me or does everyone chuckle when you read a reviewer and they comment how great Axl sounds recently or how great he sounded ripping through Whole Lotta Rosie and riff raff... When he's for the most part sounded this good and he's always ripped through ac/dc covers.... I was reading some ac/dc fans comments from last night and they were so happy but also at the same token they'd say Brian lost his voices years ago, etc.

I think many reviews of GN'R in the past 5 years were written with a preconceived bias against Axl, just because Slash wasn't in the band. Even if there were concerts were Axl killed it through the whole set, they felt they couldn't write a 100% positive review. It would somehow validate that version of GN'R, and it would go against their own feelings for the situation.

That being said, even if his vocals were always good in the past few years, Axl's voice is at an higher level now, so far at this year's concerts.

2006, 2010 and 2016 are so far the standout years I think. Looking at that, all of them being the first year of a touring cycle (2009 was at the end of the year, and can be tied in with 2010), let's hope he sustains this high, high level of singing for years to come now.

Post 2011 him voice was pretty average. I  mean it was fine, just weaker than it had been. He's back and doing really good now. Best since 2011 for me.

Spirit-- you hit the nail on the head. Perfectly said! We hardcore fans instinctively knew this was the media and rock critic's mindset from day one. Hopefully all the positive press and reviews will open the doors for many people to give Chinese Democracy a genuine "second listen"
You 're also correct in noticing that there seems to be something a little different about these past few shows-- Axl just seems to be in a zone and his vocals or exuding a visceral primal urgency and hunger that we haven't seen or heard in a long time.

Do we have any pictures of how big the crowd actually was?

From the reviews I've seen conflicting descriptions. Some said LCD had a surprisingly low turnout and this was mirrored during the GNR set. While other reviews said the crowd was considerably larger than Friday night, some even said near capacity.

I missed the periscope last night because I switched to the official stream.

Nightrain is definitely the highlight of that set, Axl absolutely tore through it - no denying that. While he does sound a little weaker on some songs, we have to remember, they're playing lengthy sets here. Have you ever tried singing these songs? Karaoke? In a band? In the shower? Anywhere... they're not exactly easy songs to sing. If you compare Axl to a lot of singers in his age bracket - or a lot of older singers when they were in his age bracket, he is way, way ahead of the curve.

He's definitely not embarrassing himself like Vince Neil out there.

Can't help but think deciding to play Coachella wasnt a great idea.

Most of the reviews i have read have been particularly scathing of GNR. Most of it absolute crap..

It's rather obvious that most of the writers already have their opinions on what they like and dont like, so GNR were always going to come in for some crap.

I'm just not sure it was worth it.

FWIW.. ill be happy when Coachella is over for GNR and they can get back out and play to their own fans who actually appreciate them in an environment that suits both the band and the fans.

Just my 2 cents.
 

Coachella will gain more interest than you think.  Even if you reach 1/3 of the younger crowds, it's worth it.  Can keep the band relevant.  Also, I'm seeing much more positive than negative.

just got back home to nyc last night.....the last 2 weekends Vegas/Coachella i'll remember forever. Coachella was a different animal it was INSANE the guys kicked fucking ass. funny how 1) they comment as if Axl did nothing during the 20 years, not a single word about ChiDem era, the album or songs played during the show, 2) Duff, Frank and Melissa mentioned once, no word at all about the rest of the band.
it kinda seems like this was written by some casual journalist guy, who had AFD and UYI and then didn't care (or didn't want to care) about what was going on next, because "ya know, GNR were always my most favourite band an I loved how Slash was singing, Axel was playing guitar so coool and I also liked that top hat guy... it's so great that Axel finally did a show after those 25 years, ya know?" :hihi:

She named her son after Axl and is friends with Slash obviously. Makes sense she'd be there.

Yeah, it's an honest review. However, it annoys me that WHEN people review positively they always seem to make a long story out of it and are thus sort of 'defending' why they're positive about the performance.

In 2016 it's apparently still not okay to simply say that GnR are a fucking awesome rock band who show the world that they are the last actual rock band. That's something to cherish and appreciate, not to reluctantly admit. Rock is somewhat on life support and here are these dinosaurs showing everyone how it's done. And by dinosaurs I mean these massive beasts, slaughtering everything in sight.

It's better than ever: Axl's vocals, Slash's playing, the match of styles between Slash and Richard, Duff's singing, Melissa on keys. Everything seems on point. It's time so called music reviewers start admitting that, because this is plain stupid. The biggest rock bands of the last 10 years were Green Day and Foo Fighters  :hihi: No offence to anyone liking them, but Guns blows them out of the fucking water and FF and GD are treated like they're Led Zeppelin and The Stones.
