Radio.com is reporting that Alice in Chains will be opening the 2 Vegas shows. Not sure how to link it.

Wow, that's a great show.

Really haven't kept up with them since Layne passed.  But I'd damn sure rather heard classic AIC material sung by whoever as opposed to original material from some other band towards which I give no fucks.

You guys that are going lucked out here.

ALICE IN CHAINS To Join GUNS N' ROSES At Sold-Out Las Vegas Shows Next Month

Title: Re: Alice in chains opening vegas
Post by: sandman on March 02, 2016, 12:02:31 PM
ALICE IN CHAINS will join GUNS N' ROSES for their sold-out Las Vegas dates during the opening weekend at T-Mobile Arena on Friday, April 8 and Saturday, April 9.

ALICE IN CHAINS last year completed a 19-date summer tour that launched on July 17 at the Pala Casino Spa & Resort near San Diego, wrapping up in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania on August 16.

The band donated two dollars from every pre-sold ticket to a fundraiser in memory of a fan named Stefan Dayne-Ankle, who passed away after a battle with leukemia.

The dates marked the first tour for the band since they hit the road back in 2013 and 2014 in support of their latest album, "The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here".

"The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here", sold 62,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The disc followed up 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue", which was the group's first all-new collection of material in 14 years. That CD opened with 126,000 units back in October 2009 to debut at No. 5.

ALICE IN CHAINS was previously in the Top Two with its self-titled 1995 set, which debuted at No. 1 on that year's November 25 chart, according to Billboard.com. It would be their final studio release with singer Layne Staley, who died in 2002.

"The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here" was ALICE IN CHAINS' second album with William DuVall on vocals.

GUNS N' ROSES has six shows scheduled so far, all in April: two at the Coachella Music And Arts Festival, two in Las Vegas and two in Mexico City. The exact band lineup has yet to be confirmed.

Fantastic. :peace:

My first choice for this all-along. I think the chemistry/respect between Duff and the AIC gang can really make for a solidified/supportive environment for all involved. Hope it broadens out to more shows... : ok:

Very cool. They are a good band with some offensive religous lyrics (Man in the Box) but pretty cool.

Met Jerry's cousin once actually was kinda cool.

It's all original dudes beside layne...

basically to sum it up.

cantrell, inez, kinney and that william duvall dude

neat news!

Tommy with AIC is not ringing a bell for me. Could be.

Duff did play with AIC last year (and is supposedly working on their official biography?):

http://www.blabbermouth.net/news/video-duff-mckagan-joins-alice-in-chains-on-stage-in-spokane/

As far as a slightly more "permanent" arrangement- Duff was briefly a member of Jane's Addiction in 2010- and Tommy a member of Soul Asylum (2005-2012). Not sure if that's what you're thinking of though...

For shame, for shame.  50 lashes for Agent Mulder here.  Some "fan", amirite??

Or...maybe...just maybe, he (or anyone) might have had an easier time justifying spending like a grand if he was seeing 1 band he liked and 1 band he loved, as opposed to 1 he loved and who the fuck knows who else.

Perhaps that would have been an easier call to make, had this not been announced weeks after the show was long sold out.

But all that speculation is irresponsible and dangerous.

What's really important is that we question his fandom.  Let's not lose sight of the mission here, folks.

No, you are NOT right.  If Mulder posted that on an AiC fan site, you would have been correct.

As JAEBALL and Jarmo pointed out, "the mission" as you call it is GNR fans discussing on a GNR fan site about seeing GNR shows that Slash and Duff will be rejoining Axl onstage for the first time in over 20 years.

Of course not. Mr Right is never wrong.
Especially when he's just looking for another argument when there's none to be had.
What's really important is to question this person's lack of logic.  : ok:

For the record, nobody was question anybody's "fandom". Only wondering how AiC can hold so much weight over the ticket buying decision. Considering the event itself is the first shows with Axl, Duff and Slash on the same stage since 1993. That's not enough? Well, I'm glad there's AiC to make the decision easier. :)

Now back to the regular whining about my posts courtesy of Mr Right and his high opinion of himself.

I...can't believe I'm chiming in on this, but....Let's say you love Band A, but you also love Band B.  If Band A announces a show, and you are excited, and later announces Band B is opening said show, and makes you even MORE excited, and heck maybe you'll buy a ticket now, does that make you a shitty fan of Band A?  Because, you know, it kind of sounds like you're saying it does.

Nobody was saying that.
Only some of you are desperate for an argument so you claim we are saying that.

It was only pointed out how this is the first time in over 20 years that band A will have three of the most well known members on stage together and how this is a fan site for band A, so it's somewhat safe to assume that you'd be a hardcore band A fan on a band A fan site and that the event itself would make any fan of band A want to buy a ticket. :D

Now who's talking semantics.  We're not discussing just any Band A and Band B shows.

We're talking about the opening act for Guns N' Roses shows that Slash and Duff have officially rejoined after over 20 years!

More so in your town though, I'd think.  In that scenario, I could see the argument the opening band would matter very little to not at all.

But plane tickets to and fro, hotel accomodations, and the general expense of a few days in Vegas adds up.  I could see needing some extra incentive to rationalize that.

All the more so if you are under the impression that they WILL be coming to your town this summer.  Or, at least, closer to your town than Nevada.

But plane tickets to and fro, hotel accomodations, and the general expense of a few days in Vegas adds up.  I could see needing some extra incentive to rationalize that.

It all depends.

If you're a really really hardcore fan who's spent your money on travels to see GN'R in the last 15 years or so, I'm sure you don't need to know the opening act to make those plans again.
And if you didn't go see GN'R between 1993 and today because certain people left the band, do you need to know the opening band?

Just saying, it's all relative.

Now, let's say GN'R is one of your favorite bands.... And/or you don't really travel to see them and so on.
Then it all gets a bit different.

You've sure been MIA lately for whatever reason, though theories do abound.

Yeah I was thinking about that today actually.  They really seem to be a perfect support act for a stadium tour.  A very well known band with songs lots of people love, but definitely not an arena level band on their own anymore, although they are close.  They can still play decent size venues and be high on the bill for festivals which is a very hard thing for a band that has been around for so long to do.
