I know theyve announced Beyonce and Coldplay, but how cool would it be in Guns showed up and did Jungle? Biggest news, what a way to announce a comeback, huge amount of viewers...I dont normally do this for every award show and stuff but it would be awesome

Usually there might be surprise guest performers, but they're often somehow linked to the main performers.

I don't see GN'R joining in with Beyonce and Coldplay.

It would be a blow out massive killer thing.

I've been thinking for weeks that super bowl 2017 could be a possibility. but unfortunately, not this year.

It might well be that they drop a tour announcement in the ad breaks though.....

if only axl, slash and duff announced they were back a few months earlier, might of had a shot for this year.....but 2017 is not a crazy idea if all goes well in the next year with tour

They can be a surprise and everyone sing paradise city  but it wont happen.This has been on going rumor as well because  Slash did a guest spot in the superbowl  with fergie

would be cool if they had something new to show (like a new album, or a new EP, or even a new song), not just to say "hey, we are playing together again, come see our show", right?

Maybe there will be some sort of local advertisement at the stadium (not on TV), if GN'R in fact are scheduled to play there in May.

I like the idea of advertising, but I think playing the Superbowl is too strong just now because there is then a gap to April.

Super Bowl halftime show hasn't had a decent band in many years now, why start this year?

Slash playing with Fergie was about as bad as things can get for him.

And one gig brings in three. It's just that they don't need to market this much.

Axl made fun of the Chili Peppers using prerecorded tracks, but Flea wasn't trying to hide it.

Has GNR even been asked to ever play Super Bowl? When Appetite came out, they were still having Up With People do halftime (Google it, you'll have a laugh).

One would think a version of GNR with Axl and Slash would be somewhat appealing to the Super Bowl...

Especially since GNR songs are played multiple times a game in basically every NFL stadium all year long.

If this tours goes well and this is seen as a viable enterprise again, I assume they would at least be asked.

I used to think Axl would never do this sort of thing.  But in the face of this upcoming tour, I'm not sure you can predict Axl any more.

   I agree.  how was that bad?  I loved it.  it was fucking epic when he came up through the stage.  I am a huge football fan.  best halftime show for me in many years!!!

It was cool to see Slash, but I don't remember the actual performance being very good.

You really can't compare Axl performing with Baz in front of 10k to Slash playing with Fergie in front of a billion. Not saying one is worse/better, but the stage surrounding each event was vastly different.

Regardless of the size of the audience, I'm just saying I don't see how one is anymore or less embarrassing depending on how it's framed. Most people who hate it do so because it's Fergie and they don't like her music or the group she is a part of and they think it looks bad for Slash. BUT it's stuff like that keeping him relevant across musical genres, which is going to help pack stadiums, I know it's an unpopular thought but there is a very strong chance that because of his appearances with people like Fergie on a stage like the Super Bowl that there are going to be more people (outside of these forums) that are there to see Slash than Axl.

I don't really see playing the Super Bowl as GNR's kind of thing. However,  It would be an opportune time for a commercial with stadium tour dates to drop.  The only thing is how cost feasible is that?  Is it worth the price tag on a super bowl add to promote tour dates ? 

It's been a rumour every year for the past 15 years or so - hopefully it will come true! A short three song set would be cool, two classics plus a new song if they have one

Axl's a Raiders fan, so it's doubtful for the foreseeable future!

For the US posters: Keep us updated just in case GN'R pops up with a commercial during the Super Bowl broadcast. There are slim chances I think, but you never know.

Here in Europe, the commercials are of course not included in the broadcast.




Edited to add: If the tour has an official sponsor, that could open up the chances of financing such an expensive commercial.

If something GNR related is played I will let you know. I think commercials are too expensive. Better chance of a promo at the stadium in my opinion and not on air.

I don't know if I would call either one embarrassing, but there is certainly a difference.  You said it yourself....Slash quite possibly played with Fergie to in fact "stay relavant".  Axl on the other hand, played with Sebastian because they are friends.  Did Slash and Fergie have a friendship before?  How about Michael Jackson?  Maybe they did....but I would bet not.  I would say that Slash does these things to stay in the spotlight, just like you said.  Axl, not so much.

It's easy to do what Slash does when you've reached the fame he has....or any celebrity for that matter.  Opportunities all over the place.  But this is why I respect Axl so much....because he could easily make decisions like Slash has....but doesn't.  I personally admire that much more. 

They just ran a commercial for the Coldplay North America tour.

All is can say is THANK YOU GNR for not playing the SB. The acts are a joke. All off a tape and mechanical dance sequences. No thank you. It's way, way below Guns N' Roses....
