Title: Is this forever or just a farewell tour?
Post by: D on January 05, 2016, 10:08:38 AM
If it's forever then we are talking new music and everything,  farewell, they do coachella, football stadiums and then what?  Axl retire? Reform band again? Slash back with Myles?  Duff back doing Loaded,Walking Papers etc?

It's a legit question.

I don't know if this is a farewell, but I do think he's now cast his lot with Slash and Duff again and will only go on as long at that is all working.

If this tour is great, there could be another one.  maybe they even do a few new songs.  Who knows?

But I think the rest of his time as a performer are with these guys.  Don't see him going back to replacement guys, yet again.

Because who'd want to go through that "where's Slash" shit all over again. Only this time, Axl could hardly blame anybody provoking him in the front rows with a Slash t-shirt. :)

I think this will be a forever thing for 2 reasons. Reason one is the lineup itself...if it was going to be just one tour, I think we would've seen a full reunion...the rumoured lineup of Axl, Slash, Duff, Richard, Frank, Dizzy and Pitman tells me that it's going to be a permanent thing that Izzy didn't want to commit to and Adler couldn't be trusted with. Reason 2 would be if Slash leaves the band again Axl and GNR would never recover from it a second time.

Well I hope not. But if it is a farewell tour, so be it.  They have the right to have other plans and do other things

Based on what was being said in 2014 by people working the Vegas shows, my suspicion would be a year or two of this and then au revoir from Axl. But who knows, maybe he'll enjoy the hell out of it, the old magic comes back and he sees no reason not to continue.

This has been on my mind as well.  I doubt they tagline it as farewell, but I do set it as something like an eagles reunion, in which they tour occasionally, and go back to their respective other works in between.  Perhaps we get our own 'Long Road Out of Eden' but not counting on it.

Let me add, it would be cool if they named the tour "Not in this lifetime" :)

If it is a farewell tour I have no interest in this reunion other than checking them out on Youtube.

If the chemistry and Axl?s voice work, there?s no reason for this being a farewell tour. Hopefully!

I agree.

So long as Axl can still deliver, I don't see why this could not be a reliable option every few years, a tour like this.

Sorry

'Cause nothin' lasts forever
And we both know hearts can change
And it's hard to hold a candle
In the cold November rain    ;)

Realistically, you've got 5-10 years tops.
Will it go that long? I actually doubt it.

I'm really hoping for new music, stuff from the vault, etc. Honestly, live, I preferred the most recent line-up to any in GN'R history save the original. Saw some killer shows with 'em. So if this is just a farewell, I'm not sure they can top what I've already seen (without new material anyway).

Forever is the wrong work though. Is it long term or short term? I think it's going to be a play it by ear thing.

What we actually need from Gn'R is a actual best of with 2 new songs tacked on...

let the band pick out what "they" think are the best songs they did... 2 disc 22 songs, with 1 new song on each disc at the end. simple.

we could use unreleased and demos too... that would be incredible. I'm talking anything recorded or demo'd out from 85-96 before Slash left.

They could even do a box set of rarities and unreleased stuff 2 discs of old stuff 85-96 era and then do 2 discs of 97-2008 stuff... that would take care of everything up to CD. I know there is some cool stuff no one has heard in there.

It probably all depends on the chemistry and if they are getting along by the end of the tour.

Way too much talent and "unfinished business" to ride off into the sunset if they are having a good time.

If I had to choose one, I'd bet on a Farewell tour.  After everything that's happened, I still maintain this "reunion" is extremely shaky, so I can't see it lasting "forever".  And like others have said, how long do you think "forever" could last even they hailed the "reunion" under that banner?

Having said that, they're probably not going to announce it one way or the other.  They'd more than likely disappear just like they did in 1993.  That might actually be best.

I'm not sure what to expect. Either wouldn't surprise or shock me.

1. They split after a nice short term reunion. Sure it can happen. Maybe it's a final farewell and leaving on good terms.
2. They stay together and put out new material.
3. They just tour from time to time playing old stuff. That is less likely to me. I think the guys in the band are constantly creating new stuff. I'd doubt very much a day goes by that Slash doesn't write a riff or Axl doesn't write some new stuff.

Either way, I'm hoping I can see them on stage again. Honestly, I'm okay with either thing. Whatever happens. They don't owe me anything. I would've liked to see the Beatles or Zeppelin on stage. That's life. Still enjoy the shit out of their music tho.

I'd say it's "for now" and see how it plays out depending on how well they play together, their personal matters, public response etc.

Only question would be what comes next for Axl, should this lineup be a short term engagement, or come to an end for any other reason. Obviously very early to think about, but I expect if this reported hybrid lineup is true, that this is a continuation rather than an ending.

I see it as the retirement tour they've had ups and downs but yea theyve earned it for AFD alone in my eyes so lets enjoy it for it is,middle aged men hopefully enjoying themselves one last time.

My first hypothesis is a sort of "Axl/Duff/Slash celebration tour", maybe a 2 disc "best of", then everyone (speking of the 3 guys) on his own way.

I'm sure most of us hope it's going be a long term thing, of course.

Some are fearing that it's just a cash grab tour and a nostalgia trip, but I don't see it. First of all, the lineup seems to include Richard, Chris and Frank. If it would be a cash grab I'm sure they would have asked Steven or Matt to join, and would they have said no? And if someone is really expecting GN'R trying to do some "Ritz 88" rerun, why would they have Chris onboard?

If it would be only for the money, they would have made this a bigger thing already, I'm sure.

I really hope they are able to find the magic that will result in fantastic new music (emphasis on the word new).

Anybody ever noticed Todd being great?! 😉😜
"By now you will have been privy to news that is hardly unexpected yet wholly exciting nonetheless. God knows it never seemed to be that carefully kept a secret. For a long time now we Conspirators have been personally made aware that the regrouping of one of the most important brotherhoods in music history was underway. That thing that everyone had wished for but never thought possible was quietly (and not so quietly) cooking under our very noses. To be in this close of proximity to a history of Rock N Roll moment occurring has been nothing short of incredible. With Myles returning to a new chapter of Alter Bridge the door has opened for any number of circumstances and the semi-reunion of Guns N Roses is one of the most exciting byproducts thereof."
As Slash?s bro I think this is a very exciting and important chapter for him to embark on. I support him wholeheartedly to dive into this experience but as his friend I would support him if he decided to walk away from music and live amongst Buddhist monks in Nepal. That?s what bros do. How it affects me really isn?t the point. This thing is bigger than all of us. I think it is a healthy thing for the individuals involved as well as the great gift they are giving to the world. I ccept that gift thankfully. And how exactly does this affect me? Well, to be honest we have all known for a long time that 2016 was going to be a year with not much public activity in the SMKC camp. We still have every intention of entering the studio to record SMKCIII in May and some form of release following in 2017. In music, as in life, things change all the time. For me I have taken on a number of projects that as usual I wish there were at least two of me to see through.

I think it depends on how it goes. If it works for them, they do more shows. If it doesn't, I can see them at this stage of their lives, amicably separating and go on to do whatever it is they do. I don't think this particular reunion is the death knell of Guns N Roses if it doesn't work out. If the band once again loses Slash and Duff for whatever reason and Axl wants to carry on, he will and most who have been here the last 15+ years will be right along with him.

Personally, I don't mind, just knowing they managed to sort things out between themselves is good enough for me. Anything else is just a bonus. :D

If it is a farewell tour, and who knows, I'm glad its with Slash and Duff.

Might as well just enjoy it while we can.
