So it's a Gn'R reunion, and they'll only have time for 22-30 songs at the most roughly right? Which non Gn'R songs could they play if any at all?

I don't see them doing more than 2-3 songs.

Maybe they do Slither? I doubt that though. I don't think they'll do anything from Slash's albums or anything Loaded. Axl probably got them to agree to play some CD songs. Chinese Democracy, Better maybe? I don't know. Better doesn't suit Slash's style at all.

I really do think this will stick to the older material though, it's hard for me to imagine them doing "This I Love" with Slash and Duff. I would love that personally but I don't think so.

Probably 8 songs from Appetite, and then 10 songs from UTI, and 2 songs from Spaghetti. Then 2-4 songs from early days (Mama Kin, Move to the City etc)

I'd say it depends on who will be involved.
From VR era, probably Fall to Pieces and only that.
Also a Motorhead song for Lemmy.

I think he keeps it (he's been doing it every show with Myles)... what I think is slightly intriguing is that prior to the release of Anastasia, he used to work it into the Godfather Theme, so it could be a way to get some solo material into the Guns show even if it's just an instrumental. I would actually love to hear Frank on drums during that song (similar to the band jumping in on DJ's solo) because Slash's drummer the past few years is actually an amazing drummer and that song specifically is really enhanced by the drumming.

Who knows? I wouldn't bank on much more than classic Guns songs - most of appetite, the Illusions standards, a few Lies tracks, some covers - but is anything really predictable with this band?

If Kushner really is part of it, i'd be pretty neat to hear a couple of VR tracks(Axl would sound pretty cool on "Slither"), and even a few Chinese tracks.

I'm just planning on enjoying the ride, regardless of where that may take us.

Serial Killer and You Got No Right would be pretty sweet.

Especially CITR... since I've seen the new GNR 3 times live, and never got to hear this song being played :P

I've realized how lucky I was to hear all the songs I really wanted to hear off CD played live, across the shows I've been to.

As for non-GN'R songs. I suspect they might continue with some of the recent covers like Don't Let It Bring You Down or The Seeker, etc.

To be honest I can't imagine that they will play any VR or Loaded song

I bet all my coins that they will never play any solo stuff.... CD songs are likely to be played specially with Frank and Fortus still on board... but VR, Slash, Loaded...never.

I could be wrong, but I think we they will replace around 4 CD songs by UYI and AFD and thats all.

Fall To Pieces is a beautiful song. Its a GNR song, made by VR.

I think the only way solo/other project songs get worked into the set is as solo spots.

As far as CD songs, I don't think you will ever hear Shacklers, Sorry, Scraped, or Rhiad from this lineup... I think the only ones with any regularity would be Street of Dreams, This I Love, and mate IRS because they will suit Slash the best. TWAT would work, but I think Slash would lay down his own take on the solo (TIL might be similar)... Anything with 'stunt guitar' I think gets shelved.

I actually hope they do none, except some intros or DTJ with Train Kept A Rollin' etc. More time for the important songs ;)

Edit. I just got that "anything outside of 86?94 GN'R" part in the title. So to add, I'd also like to hear songs from CD.

I still think Chinese Democracy would also be likely. It's on that slot machine tracklist.

It was a Slash demo. They reworked for VR, probably with Weiland's input.

I think there is already more than enough original songs to pick from 87-91, why bother with the covers?  I could see doing Live and Let Die and Knockin on Heavens Door of course , but other than that they have more than enough originals to choose from.   Maybe Duff does "Attitude"?

I wouldn't be shocked if there's some covers. Maybe some familiar ones, like what Duff did in 2014. Maybe Rosie will appear in the set.... Dead Flowers maybe?

They would definitely be fun, GNR has always done fantastic versions of cover songs, especially live.  My comment may have sounded a little anti-cover which was not my intention.  I was just saying that they already have so many originals to fill a set list that some songs are going to have to be left out to begin with.  It's a "problem" most bands would love to have.   :hihi:

Covers also do provide a great opportunity for special guests to hop on stage.  "Dead Flowers" would be a great spot to have Gilby hop on stage for a song considering the history there.

My favorite VR song is You Got No Right and I think thats one of the least probable tracks for them to play now, so I don't care that much.

Be interesting if they play the Chinese songs. Slash probably wouldn't be keen on playing them songs but I'm sure coming back into the band axl would have mentioned this? Also I love KOHD and LALD well the 2006 version of heavens door was unreal and the 2010 version of LALD was immense so maybe you're right, a change is needed. I'd personally love to see locomotive in the setlist.

I could see Fall To Pieces or another VR song as a sort of tribute to Weiland during the shows, at least at Coachella. Definitely see them playing a couple CD songs as well as they specifically mention Chinese Democracy and its success in the press release. I think if they were going to avoid songs from that era, they wouldn't have gone out of their way to mention the album.

I think that they won't play any "Slash's Snakepit" songs.

From CD, Slash maybe can play: CD, Street Of Dreams, Catcher In The Rye, This I Love. Minor chances has: Madagascar, Prostitute, TWAT. Almost zero: Shakler's, ITW, IRS, Sorry, Riad, Better, Scraped. Just my opinion.

I would love to hear "Halo" and "The Dissident" with Axl's voice!

Mama Kin deserves back to the set and a new cover maybe can be "R.A.M.O.N.E.S." from Mot?rhead.

I honestly hope they play 2 songs from CD and 2 songs from Slash solo.. id love to hear them play together..this I love because maybe slash knows it from the past,Fall to pieces and slither and Better..my guess is we get 2 new cover songs :)

I love Ain't it Fun and always considered one of the best Slash's performance in a official cover track. I think this would be a good opportunity to finally play this song live.

I know it's all your opinion, but why the hell do you think Prostitute is more likely than IRS and Better?

Also, saw some people talking about Riad not being Slash style.. I think it's one of the more guitar driven songs in Chinese Democracy with a solid riff - Axl himself said to Bumblefoot that it reminds of Beatle's Hey Bulldog. Of course, the song has its synths and the solo and outro are wacky as fuck, but it could work in a more straight fowarad approach with Slash.

Still, I don't think Axl likes to sing this song. He had every chance to do it in 2006/7 when he was hitting all those high notes more easily.

Everybody knows your love to Riad... A really great song, played at HOB 01.01.01 and not in Rio III unfortunately... The vocal requirement is a factor to the band not plays it easily, like Silkworms, if could would be great.

Covers have always been part of the GN'R experience. On the UYI tour, songs like Imagine and Wild Horses were live staples; with more recent lineups, Riff Raff, Whole Lotta Rosie and other songs were covered.

If this regrouping is a long term prospect and they tour, what songs would you eventually wanna hear them cover and try live?

I vote for the following:

-Over the Hills and Far Away (they did this songs on a very rare occasion in the 90s, but Axl's voice is extremely fitting to cover Zeppelin material. He was turned down by a punk band in the early 80s cause he 'sounded too much like Robert Plant'!)

-Love of My Life (Queen - This piano driven number would make a great opener for This I Love or November Rain, the way It's Alright and Someone Saved My Life Tonight Have. Especially given Axl's love of Queen)

-Across the Universe (would make a great intro [think duet with Axl singing, Slash and Richard on acoustic guitars) for Catcher if it's played by the regrouped lineup

Yes, good call.  My preference for them would be Suffragette City.  Another possibility would be Let's Dance, which I never knew until reading the recent obituaries that Stevie Ray Vaughn played lead guitar.  That fits right into Slash's bluesy style of playing.  

I would like for them to do a David Bowie song. maybe Ch-Ch-Changes. 8)

I always loved the guns rendition of "Symphaty for the Devil", and always wanted to hear it live, but I know Axl replaced Slash guitar parts for Paul's so... it's very unlikely. Also loved the old intro that Axl used to play before November Rain, that little part of Black Sabbat's "It's Alright".

The covers are part of the essence of GNR, that's what I think. A song like LALD, played in the GNR style has being worldwide recognized that have become practically of their own, becoming part of the legacy of the band.

Good insight, I agree and love that GNR puts their own unique style on covers and makes them their own, a big fan of a lot of the covers they have done.

If they do a Bowie cover, Rock n' roll suicide. Other than that, a Hanoi cover would be fun. But like Cheap Jon, I prefer as many originals as possible. Even though it's correct like JK75 says, Gn'R usually make cover songs even better.

If they played a 5 minute version of Heavens door that would work too, but to me, that's not a 10 minute song, especially not if Axl uses the cowboy voice that he has the past tours.

I'm 99.9% sure that it'll always be in the setlist though, same with LALD.

Yeah, wouldn't want Axl to actually be having fun at these shows.  ::)


As a tribute to the artists who have recently passed, they could do Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding in addition to or instead of KOHD.
