Whenever there has been a hiatis Uncle Axl has undergone a bit of a make-over himself.

Basically in 2000, we got to see the braided hair, along with the new line-up up to 2006/07 Then in Post CD release again with DJA joining the moustache and loose again hair back in vogue, along with the fedora hats. Can the new era see a new look Axl?

Has Axl really not left his home since Vagas residency?  I find that hard to believe, but given the lack of fan taking opportunistic selfies or total non press released snaps it does make you wonder. If there is a change, what do you think it will be?

Given the history, I think he has probably changed something up, he always does.

Thing is, the last look he was sporting sure seemed to me more about necessity than fashion.

If the hair is going, not much you could do about that.  So does that mean he's a hat guy going forward, a la Bret Michaels?  Very probably.

The jacket though, is that needed at all times (and to remained buttoned) if he got himself back into 2010 shape?  Maybe not.

Problem is that Axl is human and is getting older as we all are.  Shedding weight as we age is a motherfucker. 

We did see him without the hat on some occasions. Didn't seem like his hair was going.

So, I don't think his last look was out of necessity.

Can you think of some other reason he sported that leather jacket at all times, buttoned up?

He has a record of sporting pretty much the same outfit during the same tour.


Sure he has put on some weight in the recent years, but we've seen him many times in public, off stage, without the buttoned up leather jacket.

Those bike shorts were the shit.  That's how I always think of him.  1992-ish.

I'm not seeing a 2016 comeback for the shorts... haha!

I really don't get guys commenting on another dude's appearance.  Axl looked and sounded great last year.

Second, image is part of the rock n roll experience. It's secondary to sound, but still a part of it I think.

I thought the 2002 voice was too clean.  Didn't love it.

But he was awesome in 2006 and 2010.  If he could rediscover some of that, that would be ace.

I don't give a good god damn what he looks like if the vocals are there.  He could shave his head and come out in a fucking cape.  If he sounds good, who cares?

I don't think people were knocking his appearance for no reason.  But did it effect the vocals?  Beats the shit out of me.  But people couldn't help drawing a correlation between the two.

Well for starters whether you realize it or not its homophobic and sexist to think men shouldn't care about how another man looks and as it's been pointed out image is a big deal in this genre. So if fans want to break down his appearance and what he wears... that's certainly not out of bounds as long as they are not being disrespectful.

What's odd is, I am dealing with my own version of internalized homophobia because I post from work and am projecting my own self loathing when I am critical of Axl doing nothing at his job.

At least, that's how it was explained to me a week or so back.

But, it seems to me, that rock icons, have always been if not straight out good-looking, at least they looked interesting.
I remember very old footage of rolling stones groupies, and one of them said, "they are so ugly they are beautiful !"
Now I don't think young Mick Jagger and Keith Richards were truly ugly individuals, but their faces where truly interesting, maybe that's what she meant.

WHat if the whole band sounded like GNR and where a bunch of obese teenagers?
Now I do realize that Im wrong to ask such a question, because looks obviously gave GNR the experience to meet women like strippers and ultimately write songs like rocket queen, something an obese person would probably have trouble doing. Maybe Im wrong in that regard as well.

But this is why I think looks are very important, because its the reflection of their lives, Axl and the gang where good looking so they banged a lot of chicks and wrote cools songs about it. And even if an obese person would have managed to write and sing the same songs do you think it wouldve had the same effect on you?
I speak for myself, but it wouldn't have had the same effect on me not in a million years.

Ugly people, which in my opinion where not interesting and had no redeeming features or qualities, and strangely enough it equates with = ugly music.

ANd I remember that being a thing in Blabbermouth back in the day. They were just not cool to look at and I believe they had moderate success based on label support alone similar to some hip hop or pop artists.

There's a correlation between looks and  the music that in undeniable, the music is sexy because the person writing that music is sexy.  :hihi:

Some people complain about the falsetto he often use live post 20k. I like it. It fits very good to the outro of NR for example.

I'd like to think it's because Axl has more wisdom than to be running around in his mid 50s with his junk in everyone's face.

The current clothing is no big deal. But he could lose 20 pounds. He could also get rid of that horrible mustache.

i got a real kick out of that tattoo emily posted and the comments that followed. it looks like a mexican with a scumstache and a diastema dressed like axl for halloween. and why would you want his face all big in the center of your back anyway? even conceptually it is not a good idea for a tattoo.

That tattoo was just brutal.  And I bet it wasn't cheap either. 

I don't really give a shit what he looks like, so long as he sounds good.

But I think you have to be pretty willfully blind to not see a connection in the body starting to go from 2011 onwards, and the quality of vocals going along with it.

Forget reunions, new albums, or any of that.  The best thing he could do in this last break is to get back in good shape in good voice.  Far more important.

If you look at the tiltle of the thread it said "new image", not new or good voice. So my comment was about his image. Having said that you?re more than welcome to start a new thread to discuss Axl?s voice.

The older all of us get, let's face it, you know what you like.  And care less and less about looking fashionable.

 Duff and Izzy look great. Slash looks good but he could also lose a few pounds also. The only one I see as a lost cause is Adler. But he has had very serious health?s issues

I thought this was kinda cool.. I was at work yesterday. One of my patient's fathers and I were discussing GNR. He is an old hippie and he said he never says this about guys, but that Axl is straight out sexy. The way he moves across the stage. that is why everybody fell in love with him. That you can tell he feels the music throughout his whole body. So I guess it's Ok for guys to discuss other men and how they look.
