Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: ice cream sand pig on November 29, 2015, 12:48:10 AM the opening from the next cd would be sweet, like how they started the cd tours with cd. who knows if it will be out by then, but it would be rad if the very first song they played the next time they appeared was a new one. heres to hoping the next tour is a cd 2 tour, regardless of the lineup.

Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: Tongue-like-a-razor on November 29, 2015, 05:08:29 AM In case of a reunion, I would like to hear a song that hasn't been played since Duff & Slash were part of the band. Pretty Tied Up or Sympathy would be cool. However, they're probably going to play at venues where the audience is not solely comprised of diehard fans, so WTTJ is a pretty safe bet.
Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: LIGuns on November 29, 2015, 06:49:51 AM Always felt Hair of the Dog would be a cool opener...Axl announcing "Give me a little bit of volume on this one" as the band comes onstage....But WTTJ is a classic opener...Although back on the UYI tour I always liked the stories he told before WTTJ..
Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: The Wight Gunner on November 29, 2015, 07:00:51 AM If the reunion happen, the WTTJ has to be the opener, SFTD would in my view be off limits, for all that it represented.
If the band is in its current status (ie not in any form related to the classic line-up) then Sympathy for the Devil would be really cool, however I'd imagine CD would remain the opener for anticipation value alone, the way the band came on stage in silhouette during the intro part was perfect leading to burst that exposed Axl was a really good fit. Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: ITARocker on November 29, 2015, 08:17:49 AM Should start with paradise city, when he still has breath and voice :hihi:

For the next (GN'R)tour... Riad n the Beduins, that would be interesting For the next (reunion) show/tour... It's so easy Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: AHUGEAxlFan on November 29, 2015, 08:57:26 AM Regardless of lineup, I'd love to see bad obsession.

Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: westcoast_junkie on November 29, 2015, 02:12:40 PM Agree with everything rj said. If not, Chinese, Easy or Get in the Ring (with some "Guns n' Roses " shouting from the audience ).

But some songs fit better as openers than others. I don't want a new song just for the sake of it, it has to be close to or as fitting as WTTJ. If CD 2 is an album full of ballads, it won't exactly open a show with a bang no matter how good all the ballads are. PTU, Jungle, Easy, Brownstone...would be a kick ass start considering they reunite. And I would love to hear Axl sing Anastasia...maybe they make an agreement, Slash plays CD stuff and Axl sings Connspirators stuff! ;D Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: JAEBALL on November 30, 2015, 09:33:04 AM Well... Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: jarmo on November 30, 2015, 12:38:38 PM No I didn't.
All I know is that some were saying the setlists were too similar and now when there's a discussion about the first song of a hypothetical show, many request songs that have already been used to start shows. Shows you that the setlist complaining is a bit misdirected. /jarmo Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: kaasupoltin on December 01, 2015, 01:45:29 AM No I didn't. And of course, it would be cool to see the first song change from this to that during a tour, but at least I thought this thread is in the form of "if you'd have to choose one". The first song under the new old gnr would be WTTJ Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: raindog on December 01, 2015, 02:43:45 AM No I didn't. Yeah, anyone want to make a pie chart of the percentage of shows since 2000 that started with Jungle or Chi Dem? We'll save that little tiny almost near non-existent slice marked 'others' for you bud. Not complaining, honestly, Jungle opens most shows because it should open most shows. It's a must-play, greatest hit that people will be majorly disappointed if they buy a GNR ticket and don't hear and the opening slot is where it damn frickin jolly well arseing belongs. But "oh, they changed it up a handful of times before they immediately switched it back over the course of 14 years" is proof repetitive setlist complaints are invalid. :-\ ummm... Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: Nytunz on December 01, 2015, 04:40:20 AM I think WTTJ is a opening song that both diehard fans and "normal" rock/metal fans never get tiered off. It has a lot of energy. i thought Chinese as an opener was very cool. There are a couple of songs i could see as openers.. It so easy (like back in the days). You could be mine.. ...., reckless life...
I think the intros they have used since 2001 is great.. sets the mood! But it would also be great to just start the show with the drumsintro from you could be mine... Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: jarmo on December 01, 2015, 07:14:45 AM I get your point. We'll save that little tiny almost near non-existent slice marked 'others' for you bud. Stop whining already. Lighten up! Jeez. All year long Festivus with this one. I pointed out that your kind of people who like to post their honest opinion on things they don't like about GN'R have spent quite some time posting these opinions about the setlists over the years when the band was out there touring (which also was commented on by these kinds of people). Now when there's a choice to post a preferred opening song, many choices are the logical ones that have already been used at some point. Those are facts. /jarmo Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: raindog on December 01, 2015, 09:05:48 AM I don't think you understand what whining is.
Typically a post that ends with 'I'm not complaining' and expounds the opinion that the songs most often used as openers do indeed belong at that spot in the set would be considered supportive. But of course, you excised that rather pertinent portion of my post from your quotation because it didn't suit your purpose. 'your kind of people'. Jesus, it's like some sort of low-level rock n' roll version of racial profiling. Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: jarmo on December 01, 2015, 09:16:41 AM No, I don't understand what whining is, what humor is and I also apparently look like a person with a handicap.
Anything else? :) Just observing what I see. Look at your post history. The first posts you made, I assumed you were only here to stir shit up. Didn't mean to hurt your feelings. Just saw another faceless poster make claims about what I understand or don't. Maybe it's because English is my third language. It's not easy understanding all these native speakers! I'll try practice my English more. : ok: /jarmo Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: Spirit on December 01, 2015, 09:53:57 AM I get it. It's just certain people who think that... :) I think it's safe to say that if such a vote were arranged, the setlist will be as you say ? not much different from what they've been playing in the recent years. There's no question they are playing the most popular songs, but that doesn't mean the less popular songs are better left completely out. To us they're still really good songs. I can see both sides of the argument. On one side Axl & co wants to play the very best and most popular songs at every concert, which of course leads to a "standard setlist". On the other side, for people attending multiple concerts in a tour or attending every time GNR stops by in their town, while still very cool just to see a GNR concert no matter what the setlist is, the experience might have been even better if the set was completely different. Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: jarmo on December 01, 2015, 09:56:28 AM Yeah, I'd say if you go to a regular show and look around, a majority of that crowd would be happy if Greatest Hits was played and then a few others....
This is true for any band! It's even more true of it's a festival show. /jarmo Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: Spirit on December 01, 2015, 10:02:10 AM Yeah, I'd say if you go to a regular show and look around, a majority of that crowd would be happy if Greatest Hits was played and then a few others.... This is true for any band! It's even more true of it's a festival show. /jarmo I'm not arguing the setlist they are playing is probably the most popular one among the masses. But I think it is reasonable to think that a good portion of the crowd will be familiar with all the Illusions songs for instance. I don't think the crowd would've died down if they played Coma, Perfect Crime, Bad Obsession and Dead Horse. But this is just an argument among the die-hards... The casual fan would be 100% satisfied with only the greatest hits, as you said. Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: jarmo on December 01, 2015, 10:06:57 AM Yeah.
That's why I think Chinese Democracy was a logical opening song on the last tour. The excitement level goes up when the show starts. Then once that excitement goes down a bit, we got a hit song and the excitement goes up again. It's like a boxer hitting two punches on the opponent! ;) /jarmo Title: Re: Opening song for next tour Post by: D-GenerationX on December 01, 2015, 10:10:19 AM Preety tied up would be a cool song to bring up again and maybe open with... It's just certain people who think that... :) I think it's safe to say that if such a vote were arranged, the setlist will be as you say ? not much different from what they've been playing in the recent years. That can be a double edged sword though. Pearl Jam did this for years for a fan club show they did in Seattle each year. And the fans picked the songs. Forget 'Jeremy' or 'Animal'. It was mostly deep cuts and b-sides. Funny thing about that though. Some of the versions from those concerts are pretty spotty, because they never play that stuff, and won't be doing so again either. |
