New Merch featuring the classic logo on the official website...

Guessing Slash signed over the rights or theres been some sort of agreement along the lines...

I've had a GNR beach towel the past few years.  A product I purchased when Slash was total persona non grata.

But it still has the old circle logo on it, and the classic font for the band name.

I was under the impression that Slash held the rights to this as it was his design and GNR hadnt been using that logo for legal reasons.

Well, you piqued my interest, so I just grabbed the towel off the closet shelf.

Round logo, classic font, and the tag says 2007. 

So I don't think they'd been prevented from using it.

I used to get loads of unofficial LFC merch like towels and cups from those places. Some of it was really good too.  ;)

Depends who comes up with what and if you could prove who owns an idea or a concept.

When Pink Floyd broke up, Roger got the rights to use the concept of 'The Wall' for instance.  I think it was 'The Wall'.  Gilmour could not use it without him.

Seems relevant. Slash/Duff may have a say in stuff using the old logo. Doesn't mean they wouldn't approve stuff like a towel. Might have been an issue with some of the Merck era stuff where you had the old logo with CD era font.

At the time, as it was going on, I thought he was good.  Thought he was an asset and good for the band.

Rather lost me with the "it might just show up in the store one day" bit, have to be honest.

But then once Axl weighed in years later, the picture of him changes.  At least, I think it does.

The yellow circle logo belt buckle has been around since the new gunsnroses.com opened up I think... It's been years now.

Yep, as part of the settlement he got all publishing rights regarding The Wall. That is why we haven't seen an official DVD of the 1980/81 tour officially released yet... Also, Geoff Tate took it as a clue and negotiated with Queensryche to get all rights from Operation Mindcrime in exchange for the band name, hence the name of his new band.

So, is shopgunsnroses.com the new official merch store?

It'll be interesting to see if they start using the old logo again at gunsnroses.com as well.

Of course, it might not mean anything else than that the CD-era is over. The logo with the chinese symbols on was made specific for Chinese Democracy, right?

Am very happy to say that I found  a cool GNR beanie to replace the Ashba swag beanie that I threw away. :hihi: Hopefully it will arrive in time for my trip to NYC.!

There was a "Chinese Democracy" shirt, also the gnr Facebook quoted Madagascar. I doubt it's over. It won't be over if "the new album" has old CD stuff on it

Even if they quote Madagascar on FB, it doesn't mean they'll continue to tour Chinese.

I'm just saying that the logo is specific to Chinese Democracy. Even if they stop using it and goes back to the old logo, it's not synonymous with disowning Chinese Democracy, it's just "going back to standard-mode".


But as you say, if the plan is still to release "the second half of Chinese" (and I guess that's the last official word we've heard, so we'll go with that), then it would make sense to keep the current logo.

Why not just be more direct and say "Yeah, I hope a reunion doesn't happen"? I think you know, being straight forward with one's views and not dancing between the raindrops is pretty admirable. I mean, you couldn't be more obviously deadset against a reunion, it's pretty clear, so why not just say so, instead of being condescending, snarky and smug towards people who are for a reunion?

I have the round logo tshirt, from around '04, from Hot Topic.

Have the round logo belt buckle from the official gnr merch store...from around the time Night train launched (3 or 4 yrs ago)?

I've seen, and almost bought, a round logo hoodie, too. Can't remember if it was hot topic or the official merch store, but it was one of those.

Theres been a smattering of other stuff i've seen, too. Kohls had a round logo tshirt i bought for my daughter last year. I found a round logo hat at a department store.....target, maybe....within the past few years.

I don't think this points any more, or less, to a reunion or anything. I think occasionally they (the old partnership) just do agree, when its mutually beneficial, to use it.

Edit: Kohls had round logo long sleeve shirts and tshirts last night, both mens and women.  Same styles I've seen in previous years.

I stopped reading NME and Kerrang in the mid 90s. It's been a long time. I actually always used to buy albums based on the reviews in these years ago (and Metal Hammer) without listening. It was fun
