I don't think the artists do a whole lot with that. It's more the record companies and so on.

But I could be wrong...
In this case I doubt it's the band. Why would they misspell the band name, to begin with...

And why isn't that album listed with Geffen or Universal?

Kind of cliche to rave about this concert, but it really is a solid show.

The KOHD from this one that wound up being that video, that shit played on the hour back in 1989 on MTV.  Its the one I put on playlists, because I got so used to it.

The show is a great depiction of who they were in that first breakout year.  I have other bootlegs of bands that were their contemporaries from around this time, and they don't stand up to this show.

It says the album is currently only available on the UK version of Apple Music. I guess we'll be seeing something on this here in the states on apple in a day or two....hopefully. Here it is:

It would still have to be approved by the band, record label, etc, even if MTV or anyone else has the copyright? Not like this is some show no one has ever heard or anything obviously. I'm just excited at the prospect of the band signing off to have this released. Just seems like the start of good things.

No I'm in the UK. Sounds ok. I've obviously watched the gig many times but exclusively listening to it on headphones makes you realise it's pretty rough. Was pleased to return to appetite for democracy.

There's now one new with old tv performances in Spotify With 6 songs.. The name of the album is Live On Air. I don't know if it is official but it's cool to have it :)

It isn't official. None of these TV or radio performance broadcast releases are.

Isn't the recording on Live on Air from some "Bandana" record label? Dead giveaway ;)

It's still odd that these recordings suddenly start appearing.

For example, if MTV broadcast a concert, isn't it owned by MTV? How can somebody else release it? It's not like they're selling these under the counter.

Is it possible for people in Spotify to answer this? its a bit odd, yes.

Not necessarily , MTV might have had a replay clause where the number of repeats are limited to a certain number of showing/airings

But who would own the copyright after?

Welcome to the jungle from MTV music awards 1988.. one of the best performance :)

From what I understand it's either stemming from or following in the tradition of a few EU countries such as Italy and the Netherlands having much looser copyright laws (there was a HUGE influx of physical copies of exactly these type of thing in the 90s). TV and radio broadcasts there seem to be treated as fair game after a certain amount of time has passed, unless the copyright owner exerts their claim, has plans to release it themselves etc. - it's treated as ephemeral. People have had it, people have seen it, they've made copies of it, but it's never been available as an officially sanctioned commercially released product, so it's essentially treated as public domain the same way music can be in the rest of the world if it's not released in some commercial format within 50 years (hence the ludicrous copyright-extending boxset of every note Dylan recorded between 65-66 this year).

It's up to rights holders to stamp this stuff out if it bothers them and (IMO Spotify shouldn't be hosting these) but it seems the attitude generally is 'well, this stuff's on YouTube, file sharing sites, fan forums and in people's physical collections already anyway, so screw it'.

Yeah, I remember those places being the home of many bootlegs releases pre-Internet.

But still, these aren't just appearing at music fairs or sold in stalls at the market...

The copyright/IP laws and trips agreements are in need of revision and to be redefined as soon as possible.

I've seen overseas eBay sites list recordings that would not be allowed in the U.S.

Generally the people who buy this things (bootlegs) dont know the file share comunities... or arent motherfkng fans like us. :hihi: who knows to use internet.

People generally go to google and write "how to download a mp3/video from youtube" and thats it.

Fuck spotify dont like it too.
