Title: On this day in 1996...
Post by: jarmo on October 26, 2015, 12:48:26 PM
The first version of my Guns N' Roses fan site (or home page as we called them back then) went online.

19 years later, Happy birthday to us!

Thanks to the GN'R family, those who've helped and the fans for these first 19 years!

Feel free to share your GN'R and/or HTGTH related memories from the last 19 years here if you want.

When Axl's fax then hit 5 days later, were you thinking "oh...SHIT"?

Thanks for that.

Yeah, its the most serious of all the GNR boards, this place.  We'd be worse off without it.

I cannot for the life of me post anywhere else anymore but for an occasional thought here and there.  Most of the other sites seem to be taken over by 15 yr old south american fans in desperate need of a high prozac dosage.  At the very least, this place offers pretty decent conversations with only minimal brain damage inflicted.  And if by some miracle a new album materializes, I cannot imagine there will be a happier place than this board.

The funny thing is that I didn't.
I didn't think it'd be the end of GN'R.

I just kept typing up articles from my old magazine (yes, typing. This was before scanners were the norm) and trying to figure out what else to add to the site.
And when there were news of any kind, I put them on the site.... Things were a bit quiet back then.  :hihi:

Happy 19th to HTGTH, its been a great place for GNR fans and was a truly life changing thing when I came across this place back in 2000. The amount of people I have have gotten to know and in a lot of cases met who share the same passion I have for this band is nothing short of fantastic, so thank you jarmo.

I thought it were Slashs parts and Paul "imitated" them because Axl said so.

great tune. Slash said you here the band breaking up and he wasn't into it because of the whole PAul Huge drama but I tinnk it's great. I also dig the question-answer soloing which Axl wanted. Slash didn't want to do it but fortunately he gave in and kept the f'n thing going...

I remember stumbling on HTGTH when taking a web design course at lynn community college.
Apparently I decided to catch up on GN?R rather than pay attention to the class I was paying for..
Must have been ?99, ?00 or so. I?d come back every now and again to check any news, and didn?t join the message board until a few years back.

I find the extreme contrast in opinions of the posters on this site as interesting, probably moreso at this point as any GN?R related news.
Even though I seldom agree with many here, for the most part the conversation is civil, and the site well run.

I started coming to this site nearly everyday hoping for news starting around 2002.  My first post on the board wasn't until July 1, 2005, where after a long silence I asked a stupid question that had probably been asked many times over.

Guns N' Roses / Dead Horse / Newbie Here

Whats up folks.  I've been coming to this website nearly everyday now, for several years.  Used to go to to site called lostrose.com before this one.  Very frustrated but still hopeful.  Do you think Axl has given up?  Makes me think of that movie the Aviator.  Is Axl holed up in his mansion?

Six months later Axl appeared at the Korn party.  Its been a blast coming here.  Thanks for keeping it going Jarmo.  Here's to the hoping that we'll be discussing songs from the next release when the 20th anniversary arrives!

I started checking the site for headlines back in 1999 while living in California.  I didn't know about the messageboard until sometime later, then I'd start checking more often.  This was and still is the best site for anything newsworthy  : ok:

Thanks Jarmo!

Keep up the good work.

I joined the forum when i was confident that my English was good enough, in 2010. Time sure flies.

Wow......brings back memories

woah! this site used to look like a sega game! youve come a long way jarmo. i find it so interesting that this guy from finnland started up this little site years back, typing up news articles from magazines to create content for his site, and now he is part of GNR lore, a character in the gnr mythology.

despite how crazy i am, jarmo has always been welcoming to me. he has answered my myriad of probably very annoying messages and emails, and continues to manage this insane asylum we call home day after day, all for us, the fans. that takes dedication, and patience. im amazed he continues to let us all stay in this guest house despite how badly we tend to trash the place. i want so badly to buy him a beer someday. i would rather meet him than axl at this point, believe it or not. ax is awesome, but it must be tiring to be pursued all the time so i would leave him alone, maybe just say hello if he was in close proximity. but jarmo? id yell his name across the room if i saw him!

It's funny.  People think I must hate the guy, and ask me that all the time.

But on the other boards, I actually defend him.  Because its always people that don't post here, talking nonsense.  So I guess its like that dynamic where I can give my own family member a hard time, but that doesn't mean you can.  Wagons are circled.

Also think he gets a bad rap.  I haven't racked up over 5,700 posts here in just over 2 years because he crushes all dissent.  Fuck off outta here with that.

he does get a bad rap. doesnt deserve it one bit. hes a part of the gnr family. he deserved that cd gift thingy from axl as much as anyone else. i basically see him as part of gnr.

i hope axl writes a song for him some day! how cool would that be, a song dedicated to Jarmo!?

"jarmo... something... blarmo... um".

im no good at this. what ryhmes with jarmo? actually it wouldnt have to use his name haja.

I get what you mean. When Jarmo comes across as angry at me (maybe he is, maybe he isnt??) I dont take any of it too seriously.. We just differ on certain topics.. but in the end we are all here because we love GNR's music. I have a big deal of respect for someone who can stay the course and dedicate so much time to the band through this website.. its a big effort.

The first part apparently refers to people doing exactly what I am doing now, which is, someone other than Jarmo telling people what Jarmo means or feels about any given subject.  :P
