Title: A "video producer" sued GN'R for $12m and lost
Post by: fra on August 03, 2015, 05:34:12 AM
This is from the "In the Coutroom / Selected Cases" page of the Gutman Law website: http://www.gutmanlaw.com/in-the-courtroom
Alan Gutman is one of Axl's attorneys. He is specialised in "business, real estate and entertainment matters".

Quote
Obtained complete defense verdict in jury trial for Guns N' Roses' production company after securing a judgment on behalf of client W. Axl Rose. In addition, obtained damage award on cross-complaint against the plaintiff video producer who had claimed more than $12 million in damages.

Does anyone know what lawsuit is this?
From my understanding, some "video producer" sued GN'R's production company claiming $12m in damages, and he/she lost.
Is this related to the Appetite for Democracy DVD release?

Probably since that's the more recent release.
Seems that every single small or big step forward Guns makes, a lawsuit follows.I mean damn......... ???

Maybe Dale Resteghini? The guy who shot the South American Tour documentary.

It is a litigious band.

Sir, that's dangerous conjecture.  You will be receiving a subpoena by 12 noon tomorrow to discuss this potentially libelous assertion.
j/k.   (or am I?)  :hihi:

This was a production company GNR had hired to create live videos to be used on our shows before our dear friend Rage was brought in.  However, they were unable to create videos to our satisfaction, we let them go.  They sued, we won.

Did Rage only do the live videos for the shows, or was he the director of the documentary in South America as well?

Thanks for the quick answer to that, Fernando!

is this the PHILIPPE PERRET case? That was an interesting case to follow. I couldn't believe what the guy was claiming. He gets a bunch of stock videos, edits them to fit GNR, and then tries to claim he created them.

you are spot on, and the answer was actually on the law firm's website: http://www.gutmanlaw.com/news

Jury Verdict for Guns N' Roses Production Company
(July 2014)
After getting all claims against Axl Rose dismissed on summary adjudication, Alan S. Gutman secured a defense verdict in favor of Guns N' Roses production company, BVF Productions, in the case tried before a jury in Van Nuys, the Hon. Frank J. Johnson, Judge presiding. Plaintiff Philippe Perret had demanded more than $12 million in damages for video production services he provided in connection with the Chinese Democracy tour. The Plaintiff's case proceeded to trial on a single cause of action for breach of contract after all other causes of action had been dismissed (by way of demurrer and on summary adjudication). The jury rejected Perret's claims outright and also found in favor of BVF on a cross-complaint for breach of contract.

Oh. I didn't look at your link. I just know about this case since I've followed it and read most of the legal documents.

$12 million?  Give me a fucking break.

Where do they come up with these figures in these lawsuits?

It was a waste of time.  Their reasoning behind the 12m number was bonkers.

Being that you are too busy enjoying the love life with an amazing person; I figured the people needed/wanted to know.  Here I thought you were updating everyone on our every step.  Typical, blame Jarmo.

Either blame Jarmo, or why not blame GNR themselves?  They seemed to think the idea was alright based on this VERY RARE shirt from the 2nd (edited - had a moment of idiocy there) Rock in Rio.  I am kidding of course about placing blame on anyone, but the shirt is real:

Have anyone not been sued in the states? seems like it goes sport in it.. Glad GNR made this obstacle out of the way.
