Title: The Flashback: #14 - Prostitute
Post by: Spirit on June 25, 2015, 06:54:27 AM
Last one on Chinese... the perfect closer of the album.

I first heard Prostitute before we knew 100% that it was in fact "Prostitute", and I really loved that leak. Then for some reason, I didn't play it as much once the album came out, I guess I liked many of the other songs better at the time.

It has slowly been growing back though, and after Axl's fantastic performance of the song last year it's had some sort of renaissance for me personally - I've listened more and more to it since then. It's just a fantastic song.

It's the song which uses the orchestral backing the best, very well integrated into the melody, the piano, the guitars... truly a masterpiece in my eyes.

Perfect closer I agree.
Very "heavy" song, lyrically and musically.
The closing fadeout melody is for some reason very, very calming and mellow.

Ah, yes. "Prostitute".
My favorite song.  Ever.
By ANY artist.

You can't force somebody to like something. It's all subjective.  :)

I think the first quote basically answers the second.

I love the song.  Loved it from the first time I heard the leak.

But, it doesn't sound a thing like Guns N' Roses.  This is not a song you could play for someone that grew up with the real band and expect them to dig it.

I think this song is a great example of what that 2001/02 band could have been.  Didn't sound like GNR, but I still think sounded pretty cool and interesting.

Never heard the leak. Now i do want to hear it. For investigating the differences.

My definitive favorite on the record. Theres tons of wonderful sounds and melodies packed in a tight box, finished with the most beautiful, calm and melancholic outro.
Its just overflowing of amazing sounds and melodies.

The drums sounds like they used a bit of triggering. Lots of differents drum sounds and samples used.

I think that Prostitute could be the perfect last song for any GN'R live concert. after the confetti of paradise, they should crack prostitute with a extended outro, with the band bowing during the last notes.

This is the only song where I prefer the leak.  Sounds crisper.

And doesn't have that goofy crunchy sound (for lack of a better term) underneath like album version.

Are you thinking of the bubble-sound?

I love the song, listened a million times.  But I have trouble identifying the "bubble sound."  Where in the song is it most prominent?  Thanks

Listen at 1:41, 1:44, 1:54.. It's a pulsating sound, which I for a long time thought was a synth effect. After hearing the multitracks, I found out it's simply a guitar sound.

It was a 3 song batch : Rhiad, If The World, and this one.  Not sure of the timeframe.

Great song. One of my favorites on the album. Always was a special treat to hear it in concert.

Who knew in 2006 that the piano intro Axl played for November Rain was from this epic!  ;D

A very personal song for me.
I cried when I heard it.
Axl singing from the heart.
TWAT may be the best song on the album, but Prostitute is my favorite.

Pretty much any concert where Axl did a piano solo on the 2006-2007 tours.

Also he played it a few times in 2002 too.

Best song on the album, no doubt.  Can, and have, listen to the song on loop for hours, it's just perfect.

A great song. Perhaps it's fitting that it may be the last song heard from GNR.

Doesn't all the rewinding of the tape wear you out? ;)
