Title: Expectations for next concert
Post by: Spirit on June 22, 2015, 04:20:18 PM
Let's say a new concert(s) gets announced later this year or early next year, and the date is set before the release of a probable new album (whether or not the release date has been announced doesn't make a difference). This is not to discuss whether or not that's the right strategy by the way.

What are your expectations and hopes for that concert?

I have good faith in some new music this time around actually because there's two things that come to mind:

1. This has been the longest break in touring since 2009.
2. Axl sent around Chinese Democracy platinum awards after the last tour.

#1 makes me think they have come full circle with the touring of Chinese, and this is the break they needed before re-grouping and start pushing new material.

#2 I think Axl handed those out as a symbolic gesture to the people who had taken part in the Chinese journey, it was a thank you and goodbye to that era (which certainly has been a long one).

So, for the concert. My expectations are at least one new song gets played as an introduction to the new material. I do hope we'll get three. Historically they've played more than one song for their forthcoming album before the release date.

What do the people think?

Wouldn't any new song be from the chinease democracy recording/writing period?   So can we really call that journey over???

I would expect.......  To see a great band play some great songs live

I would want....  That band to play new music and get rid of a lot of the same old songs on the setlist

I would be happy with.......   Any concert from Guns that I got a chance to see

What I meant was the Chinese Democracy record itself.

I'd be happy first of all !
then i'd say we would get 3-4 new unheard songs and the rest of set based on the last Las Vegas residency.
Oh and no more Knocking on heaven's door.Classic i know,sing-a-long with the crowd ok.but it's 15 boring minutes.
No offence to people who love the song,I do too but let's hear something else instead.  :peace:

I'm really excited with the hope that the play in the UK in the next 12-18 months.

As for expectations, I suppose a new song or two would be amazing!

I hope that Guns can update us soon about potential developments.

The internet trolls and haters are only a v small % of the thousands of loyal fans, and some people are never pleased anyway!

A new song or two would be amazing.....but at the same time, if there are no new songs or album, then I don't think many people are going to be too psyched for another tour of the same old batch of songs as always.
I'm as loyal a fan as anyone, but I'm not going to fool myself into thinking GNR is that relevant these days with no new material, it sucks theres apparently a ton of great material being sat on for whatever reasons, I'd suspect major political bs.  Hope GNR comes back strong in 2015/2016.

I honestly expect them to at least break out Goin' Down on any future tour, given a lot of people have heard it already and the reception was pretty positive (plus it was on previous setlists, just never played).

Maybe a "new" old song or two (or something just not played in a while).

It all depends on what any future show will be promoting really. If there's an album to promote I'd expect lots of new songs. If not... well frankly I'm not sure how wise it would be to tour without something new to promote, but who knows.

I also really, really want to see Guns do a summer shed tour with a decent co-headliner, with some festivals mixed in. I've never seen the band outdoors. Just a personal thing though.

I'd rather see 'em outdoors all day long, the O2 in 2010 I was seated, man that is the pits of a viewing experience, I never ever want to be seated again at a show.  I guess I'm old school, hate watching any live event - seated...

What would everyone's preference be for the first show - a warm-up show in a small place before the tour, or something big like a headliner of a big festival?

They've done it both ways in the past. Personally I like it when the do a couple of small shows first before really kicking it off.

I'd expect an unearthing of an older classic such as Coma or Don't Damn Me..and a great show that get the band back on the train again

Loved the Hammerstein shows, would love it if there were another series of shows in NYC.
