We can use this thread for discussion on the results. At the same time, come up with ideas for new "Top 3s". I had some in mind already.

Right Next Door To Hell and Riad N' The Bedouins are heavily underrated.

Personally I have Riad, IRS and Move To The City higher on my list.

Riad, I agree - heavily underrated. Coolest guitar riff, best drumming on the record.

Don't Cry (alt lyrics) was actually the first GNR song I heard, so it would naturally place higher as well. :)

Can we take the top songs or all of the 18 songs and have the contest for best GNR song overall ?

I see there's a thread created already.

Starting with 30 points will make the process take a long time though... there's 540 points in circulation, and it will drop 1 for each vote.

I was also thinking.. There are GNR songs not included on any album that'll get excluded for a "best GNR song" overall. Oh My God and Sympathy for instance.

It's all about the very best song so I wanted to put that into a higher level.

That's ok. I'm just saying it will take some time.

My take on the results:

Appetite: Kinda surprising really. None of the three big singles in the top 3. On the other hand, hardly a bad song on the album, so I can't really argue with the ones making it to the top. I voted a lot for Nightrain, so I'm happy with that one.

Lies: Three good songs in the top spots, personally I would have liked to have Move To The City in there. It's really a great song.

UYI 1: This one pretty much reflects my personal opinion on the album. The Garden would probably have placed a bit higher.

UYI 2: Pretty much the same as UYI 1. If I had to change anything, Don't Cry and 14 Years could place a little higher, not in the top 3 though.

TSI: The top 3 I agree with. It's a toss-up between Down On The Farm and Ain't It Fun for the top spot. I would have swapped Black Leather with Attitude, then placed Hair Of The Dog on 4th.

Chinese: Better is my favorite song. There Was A Time belongs in the top 3. Riad and I.R.S. belongs higher on the list in my opinion, maybe as high as 4th and 5th.

Results are pretty much what I expected, and most reflect my feelings.

Well, with the exception of AFD.  Seems like some too cool for the room-itis might have played a role there.  C'mon, NONE of the singles made it?  That are their signature songs, for god's sake.  But I got the feeling that they suffered from people not wanting to be mainstream. 

So most of the songs GN'R plays in concerts are the ones the fans like. Interesting.

I was expecting some fan favorites like Coma, Breakdown, Prostitute and so on to be high up.

I think all the singles would be higher up if this poll was done with more average rock fans.

'Coma', 'Estranged', and 'There Was A Time' were locks.

Interesting. Coma is the only nr.1 song (not including SI album) that GNR don't play live anymore! Coma is my favorite GNR song, and i would love to hear them play it live sometime.

I also think that its crazy that Bad Apples lost the UYI1 poll..... i love that song.

I don't remember if Ain't It Fun was ever played live. Also There Was A Time is a rare live performance.

I think DX has a point regarding this sort of group think on AFD.  The thing is, those songs have become stadium anthems and commercialized to such an extent that they've lost some of there original luster.  But lets make no mistake, WTTJ, SCOM and PC are masterpieces of hard rock.  That being said, RQ has always been my favorite, and really, I think that ten of twelve tracks from that album stand up to much of the greatest rock of all time.

I forecasted Lies to end up pretty much how it landed.  Thought we might and would have liked to see Move to the City higher.

UYI1 was a fun to see Don't Damn Me so close to the top 3.  Great song, great lyrics on that one, and I know its never been played live...imagine Axl digging that one up on the next tour?  Same with Breakdown on UYI2.  Its cool to see the epic stuff at the top of both UYI1 and 2. 

I thought TSI was interesting.  The favorites were far more spread out here.  Human Being is my favorite track, but noticed every morning it would get negative votes and me and others had to keep propping it back up in the afternoon. 

CD was a great battle at the end with TWAT and Better.  I like Prostitute, but didn't realize the love for this track was so prevalent.  Axl was nailing this and TWAT at the end of the last residency.  Rankings here are pretty spot on with my own picks, save for a couple things.  I put Street of Dreams at 3, Madagascar 4 and Prostitute 5.  And if Catcher wasn't so overproduced and was more raw, closer to the demo, I'd have that in the top 3 too.

As for suggestions for a new Top 3 category:

I won't create a new poll until the current one Sosso created is done. But, if we were to choose a category like best vocal performance or best guitar solo, we could use the time to come with nominations.

Best vocal performance could be both live or studio, but if you want to nominate a live performance you'll need to provide a youtube link. Same goes for a guitar solo.

So, just to see where the interest lies, what sort of Top 3 would you guys like to do next? It could be any of the suggestions I've come up with or it could be some suggestion of your own.

Sosso, what do you mean by song/album production? Do you mean sound wise, like mix and mastering?

Yes. Which song/album has the best results in that regard. 

How about a best of the worst? I use the term "worst" loosely of course. Take the bottom 3 songs from each album and see what wins out. There's a few songs I think a lot of people enjoy that got voted off early. A second chance, if you will.

Best DVD cover is kinda limited though. They only have 3 releases, right? Tokyo, WTTV and Vegas.

Top 3 Concerts, could that be interesting?

Yes, but I would make a top 3 concert list from every tour

I think it would be more interesting to mix up the old with the new to see how we feel about the performances, regardless of line-up.

Dividing up the individual tours will make up a whole lot of polls. Also, I think it'll be hard for everyone to judge say 10-12 concerts from each tour. Not many people have listened/seen that many concerts, bootleggers excluded. We could end up having to vote on over a hundred concerts in total, I think it'll be too much.

If we ask people to nominate one concert each, and we can end up with a list of about 15 concerts, I think that would be more manageable for most people to decide on.

Some of this is getting ridiculous.  Concerts only work for the shows we've all heard from popular bootlegs.  Hair?  Really?  How about we vote for the best 5 second increment of each song?  We can take each song from the catalog, one at a time, a breakdown the song into 5 second increments.  So for WTTJ at 4:33, we have 55 increments.   :P

"So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye...."  from the Freddie tribute concert is the one single line guaranteed to make my hairs stand on end. Such attitude and menace, if IIRC both Slash and Duff both said words to the effect that was one concert that Axl was totally King Dick in a good way.  To me his segment of this song was above anything I've seen done by Freddie himself, who owned Live Aid in 1985, but in my opinion comes a distant 2nd to Axl's version in his honour.

Haven't decided on how we'll do a nominations process. But, if it's a concert only you on this board have seen, with no footage available, no one else than you would be likely to vote on that concert.  ;)

So, I would think that the most known and available concerts would be considered for the poll. That's the most logical way in my mind. That way, most people are familiar with the majority of the concerts on the list, and can make a decision from that.

Yeah, the criteria for a poll must be that most people are familiar with most of the choices in the poll.

When it comes to concerts, I would think most people here have watched Ritz, Paris, Tokyo, Rio, Rock Am Ring, Vegas 12.

Arguably this isn't a selection of their best performances, so I can see that it'll be hard to do a "true" top 3 contest where every concert they've ever done is considered.

If anyone has a suggestion on how to do it, please do share it. Otherwise I think we'll put this one away for the time being.

None of those should be a judgement on how good they are technically. It's all about how you as a listener perceive it.

I could argue that lyrics are harder to judge than music (sound).

I still think "worst 3" ("worst" obviously being relative)  from each album is the best one.

Very interested to see how everyone does that.

Do think we need a ruling though.  No 'My World'.  That's a given a cop out.

I think that we use both released and unreleased videos.

They are albums as well. Even if Greatest Hits is likely to place near the bottom of the list, I think it's fair to include it.

Maybe, not sure. It's the Walmart version of the Illusions right? I don't know if it qualifies as a stand-alone album.

Not at all. It's an album - Not a studio album but one in form of a compilation.

But no one would consider it a proper release of GNR and its just two of the outputs put together. Nobody would even vote for that.

The albums poll won't be for some time, but if people don't want to include the 98 Illusions album, we can drop it. I don't really have any feelings about it either way.

Right, but the point would be to pick the "best" of those bottom 3 songs from each album. Since there were a lot of complaints by people that their favorite song got voted off too early. Gives those songs a 2nd chance so to speak. But I agree with DX, I don't think "My World" stands a chance.

As mentioned earlier, i doubt the polls are gonna be so much fun for a longer time, since this last one is really taking time.
