To tie in with the holiday:
What's your favorite performance of Madagascar?

Here's one from Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil on March 16th in 2010: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0onxJ9ZcaU

Mine is from Belgrade, Serbia in 2010. It was my first GN'R show.  :peace:

I found their performance very powerfull. Axl was so passionate, especially in the last part.

This was the first of the new songs I heard, this version.

I was blown away.

I was confused the first time I heard it (from the MTV music awards). I guess that's what happens when Axl takes the cake out of the oven too soon. Nowadays I really love the song, especially evader's danube remix because it is new to me. The horn arrangement sounding thingy (like in the intro) is unreal and reminds me of pirate ships or something.

Ah, Madagascar my first introduction to 2000- era guns music, back in 2005 when i first started using the internet and discovered that my favorite band didnt break up, and were indeed  still very existent  :-*

This is the video that introducted me to chinese era guns, Along with the Rio 2001 and Mtv 2002 gigs, on a site called video google :smoking:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IkX4SeZl5E0&list

Needles to say after this video i fell in love to the song and didnt care about the old guys not being there anymore. After some bootleg work i found out that the audio for this video is from Boston 2002 and still is my favorite version of this song.

Also another Madagascar highlight is seeing guns the first time live in 2006 (i avoided listening to leaks until the album came out, didnt succeed that well thou)
The only new songs i knew by heart by the gig in Helsinki 2006 Was Madagascar and Better. And thru the whole gig i waited for Madagascar, and after i kinda started to lose hope they played it as the encore just before paradise (if my memory is correct) and it sounded better that ever.

I choose this one as you can see his face. Love his look in the Osaka concerts 2009 with his hair flowing free & full of energy, minus the hat/sunnies & wearing just a t-shirt without all the jackets.

I cried the first time I heard Axl sing that song on the MTV music awards!

I prefer the version performed at Rock in Rio III in 2001.  Later versions were tweaked to sound slightly different in places (especially the end of guitar solos) and I just prefer the way it original sounded.

Yep :-\

I kinda understand why, its been played at about every show 2001-2011 so the band probably got tired of playing it. Same with street of dreams

Still is a alltime gnr class?c.

Love the French Horn intro, this is a beautiful song. Hope to someday see it again live, as well as "Sorry".

Rio3 = Best solo-part.
VMA-02 = Best Axl-performance.

Yep.

I assumed that's also why 'Street Of Dreams' was eventually benched for 'Catcher In The Rye'.

Thanks Jarmo! I definitely got a kick out of that. The video just reminded me of how incredibly cool Axl is. No wonder so many people come to the various message boards every day to talk about him. I think even in the people that really seem to look down on him like some of the mygnr posters "there is a special light, still shining bright, and even on the darkest night, they can't denyyyyyyyyy!"  :hihi:
