He's used GN'R music on his web site and talked about his friendship with the band in past interviews. Recently the official Formula 1 web site posted an interview with Kimi titled The First Time - with Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen. The idea is to ask about firsts in his life. GN'R part: What was the first record you bought? Always good to see them throw a GNR mention out there. I was surprised that Nicholas Cage was such a fan but never met Axl before (even after impersonating his dance for one of his movies), it seems like it would have been really easy for someone of his status to set up a meeting with him at some point.

Guns were huge at a time when many of these guys were younger and would have been really into the current music scene at the time.
When I look at the concerts I've been to in the last few years - it's all early 90s bands for the most part, and a small sampling of newer ones, most of which happened at festivals with older headliners (RiotFest for example). Yeah I saw Die Antwoord but only because they were jammed in with a bunch of older rock/punk acts at RiotFest (also... what the fuck, South Africa? what. the. fuck.). A lot of that has to do with getting back into bands from my youth - NIN, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Black Sabbath, Jane's Addiction, The Cure - all bands I've seen of late, hell I'm going to see what's left of GWAR in a few days.
