Title: Heart Shaped Box/GNR Post by: kyrie on November 09, 2014, 07:36:39 AM So for those of you who have read it, do you see GNR as inspiring some of Heart Shaped Box?
For those who haven't - it's a novel by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son, and a good writer himself) about an old rocker (Jude) who's a bit of a recluse, usually has a pretty young thing by his side, etc. The bassist in his band happens to be named Dizzy, and the Jude character reminds me a little of Axl (there's some differences like Jude is a guitar god type, but I sort of see it as an amalgamation). The book mentions Ac/Dc, Nirvana, Trent Reznor etc. But I haven't seen a direct GNR deference yet. Just curious if anyone picked up on that. I read Joe and Stephen's short story in Esquire, 'The Tall Grass,' which is really disgusting! I recommend it. :hihi:For those who haven't - it's a novel by Joe Hill (Stephen King's son, and a good writer himself) about an old rocker (Jude) who's a bit of a recluse, usually has a pretty young thing by his side, etc. The bassist in his band happens to be named Dizzy, and the Jude character reminds me a little of Axl (there's some differences like Jude is a guitar god type, but I sort of see it as an amalgamation). It's a must-read for anyone who frequents GNR message boards. I won't say any more than that - I don't want to spoil the book for you. Heart Shaped Box is pretty creepy/gross as well. Hill definitely got his dad's talent (Horns is also fantastic). Horns is great, am a big Stephen King fan and have read his books religiously for years. Read Heart shaped box earlier this year, look forward to reading more of Hill's books. |
