Title: Questions about the 2nd half of Chinese and the remix album made of
Post by: GNR2014 on July 10, 2014, 10:30:07 PM
the songs from Chinese.

Does anyone know anything else about these?
Like a tracklist or anything?
What about the remix album?
Is it a hip-hop album?
Did Axl Rose remix it, or someone else?  :peace:

I specifically remember Brain talking about working on a remixed version of the Chinese album YEARS ago. Of course we also know the composer Beltrami worked on a few songs like the general, and spoke publicly about being bummed that they didn't show up on the album. He said they were fantastic songs and he was proud to have been involved. So yea.

and the 2nd half of Chinese?

There are a dozen or so finished tracks ready to go?

"we have what I call kind of the second half of Chinese. That's already recorded. And then we have a remix album made of the songs from Chinese. That's been done for a while, too."  :o

The snippets we have heard of the remixes are sort of interesting.  The 'This I Love' with what I'd call his "Magagascar vocals" being the most interesting of the lot.

I just don't see any market for a remix album.  As a bonus with a new album, sure.  But I can't see waiting 6-7 more years after the last release to tell people that what you have come up with are remixes of the songs you put out in 2008.  Especially since we have been told the honest to god new songs are already recorded.

What do you reckon the timeframe is?

On the 2008 chats Axl confirmed these song titles ("subject to change" "considered working titles"):

- The General (intro song for many of the 2006 shows)
- Ides Of March
- Berlin (previously Oklahoma)
- Atlas Shrugged
- Down By The Ocean (Izzy),
- Soul Monster (a.k.a. Elvis Presley and the Monster of Soul - previously Leave Me Alone)
- Seven
- Thyme
- Quick Song
- Zodiac

- Jackie Chan (= Checkmate - bogus title)

Besides the ones already known:
- Oh My God,
- Silkworms ,

He didn't mention, but was also heard:
- Going Down

None of them were confirmed for the next album though.

Confirmed as fake titles: Closing In On You, Cock-A-Roach Soup, Friend Or Foe, Hearts Get Killed, No Love Remains, Something Always, Suckerpunched, Zip It, Motormouth, We Were Lying.

6 remixes doesn't make an album -- I wonder who produced the other 6?

Were the dj & Ron 'better' leaks from the remix stuff? They were certainly the finished article sound wise. I liked Ron's acoustic version but the vocals were the same and did not really match the style.

Was Beta's Barn ever confirmed to be a joke?

The General
Ides of March
Goin' Down
Seven
Soul Monster
Atlas Shrugged
Berlin
Thyme
Quick Song (clearly a working title)
Jackie Chan (also a working title)
Zodiac
Down by the Ocean (may have already been release by Izzy so this is a ?)

One/two unknown tracks + one/two remix tracks

Given GN'R's average song length that right there is a full album and some bonus tracks

I really think they need to just do this early 2015. Release it as Soul Monster or a self-titled album and with record sales what they are it should do well enough.

As an aside, I remember that several years ago (2001? 2002?) Axl mentioned that the then-band had re-recorded AFD and it was suggested that it would be rereleased as a bonus to CD. Obviously, that never happened.

The band has re-recorded the album for other reasons (rehearsals for a future tour).

Why would a band go to the trouble and expense of re-recording an album if the intent was merely rehearsal for a tour? The band could just rehearse without hiring all the assorted production people.

The rerecorded sweet child was used in the movie 'Big Daddy' and Welcome to the jungle was almost included in the movie 'Black hawk down'.

Using that logic, they would need to re-record Jungle in order to use it at every single NFL game in America, but that was not done. The original is used. Originals can be used in sound tracks for movies as well.

This is very exciting when you think about it!
This time next year we will all have another couple dozen or so new Guns N' Roses tracks in our collection!
