Title: Why not a long NYC residency?
Post by: johnreed3344 on June 06, 2014, 12:24:54 PM
Vegas has been a great success these 2 times, I just think Axl and the gang would do so awesome with 8-10 shows all over NYC. Few years back they hit 4 venues and sold out all of them. 2006 they played 4 Hammerstein sellouts. NYC has that different dynamic that I think if Axl wanted to, he could put out 10 shows and sell them all out. It would be cool to have 9 small venues (terminal 5, Hammerstein, irving plaza, ect) then have a blow out at MSG to end it (which they would sell out) Just my thoughts on this one, be interested to see what you all have to say. Cheers!

I'm pretty much with Wooody on this one, I think they need to look at fresh material at this point before any extended touring. I can see the Mexican festival being an exception, and them playing some dates around that to make it a worthwhile venture, but otherwise, new material needs to be the focus.

NYC hotel rooms are very expensive.

Yeah, I have to agree.  Which is obvious to anyone that's read even a handful of my posts.

Look, it was great that they dusted 'Prostitute' off and nailed it the other night.  But look at the reaction it got.  That is more where people are at.  Something new, something different.  I think we all have enough "epic" live versions of 'Nightrain' by now.

Let's move this whole thing forward.

Why not a long NYC residency?

Unfortunately, I think it's a matter of logistics.   :-\
First finding a suitable venue that's available for an extended period of time in nyc any time soon is like almost impossible.  and even it there were such a place n' time, coordinating that with everyone's schedule is another issue.

Yeah, lot easier to get around Vegas than NYC.

I'd assume the Casinos in Vegas would be more accommodating to residency's as they can continue to make money from the casino with the fans before and after the concert. The concert halls in NYC don't have that additional income.

And really, Vegas is a more touristy type spot.  You are more likely to plan a couple day jaunt out there than to inner city New York.

Bigger varied crowd of people to draw from over time.

Casinos have hotels and venues.

You don't have that combo in New York.

Besides, if you have to load in and out all the gear after each show, one of the main benefits of a residency is lost.

You?re guessing wrong, I?ve been in Vegas several times. I mentioned AC because there are hotel casinos and it?s located in New Jersey, close enough to N.Y.

Yeah, but its a shithole.  And not a place you really hang out.  You come in for your show and get the hell back out.

I used to call it the Vegas of the East Coast too.  But not once I actually made it out to Vegas.

I live 30 mins from AC, and just visited Vegas for the first time for the 28th show. AC is more Freemont Street, Old Vegas, then Vegas. The foot traffic is not comparable in the slightest.

Like others have said though, if Axl has indicated he'd like to put the finishing touches on the new album, after the Vegas shows, that seems time more well spent. I'm all for it.

Big time.

I have enough live versions of 'Catcher' and 'The Seeker' to tide me over.  I'm all set on that.

I would have to say MSG and Prudential Center they need to hit. Just out of curiosity, though, does anyone know why they played at the Izod Center and not the Prudential Center in 2011?  When I saw them at the Izod, I found it strange considering Prudential is newer and has more to offer.

Now that the Allman Brothers are calling it a day, I don't see why GNR couldn't do a March residency at the Beacon.

MSG is not my favorite NYC arena due to its wide layout...I prefer the soon to be defunct Nassau Coliiseum, Brooklyn's Barkley Center and the Izod Center...Was just at MSG,first time in years, and was impressed with the renovations, but still prefer the intimacy of the aforementioned facilities...
