All the best to the Fortaleza fans t night...I wish I could have gone to some of the shows...it has been a great tour to follow. Some of the venues and crowds (sold out) have been amazing....and hot! Maybe another 3 hour epic. Great to see Duff back with Gnr for some shows.

I obviously have no idea how/why the songs are picked to play at each show but I can sorta understand them not playing a particular song because the crowd is chanting.  I'd think that during any given show, whether Duff is there or not, the crowd is chanting several song names that they'd love to hear so I think the band basically goes with whatever they feel is gonna "work" that particular night from the songs they've rehearsed.  Plus, I think that no matter what was done, us fans would naturally still want something else more.

It was still really cool that Duff did what he did.  8)

It's not unreasonable to think they might play it during one of the 5 shows they played together.  :crying:

I'm not suggesting that because the crowd is simply chanting a song name they play the song that night.  I posted that quote because it was fans, who were at the show, who were making the request.

Duff posted a setlist with the song listed.  A lot of fans at the shows were requesting it, people online were asking for it.  I really thought they would perform it on the last night.  I was surprised they didn't.  I wondered why -- I would have liked to have heard it.

Before practically every show they've ever played, a set list gets posted online by somebody with about five songs that don't get played during the shows even though the fans at the shows are chanting for one or more of them to be played.  Some songs on those posted set lists that fans reported hearing the band playing during rehearsal don't get played during shows.

All Tom Jones and I are saying is..... it's not unusual.

Yeah, guns are not a jukebox, they give you the best they can, and thats it.

and that best is pretty damn awesome!  It would be highly unusual for any band especially a big one like GnR to toss out a song cause fans are chanting for it- like some have said, Duff held up a hand written set list with So Fine on it & and maybe that created some expectations but it's not unusual for all songs on the list to not be played-I've gotten plenty of set lists off the stage that had songs that weren't played. Besides, they did play all of the other songs he held up I believe- "So Fine" is kinda a lame song IMO anyway. It's also not unusual at all for most bands to play the exact same set list every nite the whole tour so I find it bizarre that some fans are disappointed when they don't constantly change it up especially when it already kicks ass!

Thanks to everyone especially Jarmo for all the updates, pictures & sharing experiences with these SA shows for us to follow at home. My mouth is watering in anticipation of seeing them in a small venue in Atlantic City in a few weeks-The band looks to be on fire & AXL sounds great! -Will be My first in 3 years, can't wait!

I wonder how these songs can be played without one guitar not playing? And than the question is, is there really a need for that many axes in the band? I mean five songs played without Ron... Not that I haver anything against the guy, just wondering...GNR nowadays looks like a crowded army on stage.

They obviously "tried it out" in rehersal....maybe it was working? maybe it didn't fit in the set?

I miss Madagascar and mentioned that once and the response I got was "it just didn't fit.....its like coming out with a funeral procession march".
I think they try to balance the energy.

Although....they do capitalize on 14 Years when Izzy is around....

I can hardly wait till Vegas....40 days and counting for me

The band doesn't have a setlist that they follow from start to finish.

Songs might be rehearsed and then not performed for various reasons.

The photos of setlists you've seen are just printed sheets of paper for people to keep track of song titles, pyro and to keep track of instruments etc.

Of course you can have a general idea of the order and what songs will be performed, but the setlist isn't something that's strictly followed. Band members constantly call out songs that aren't in the order of the setlist sheet....

I miss Madagascar and mentioned that once and the response I got was "it just didn't fit.....its like coming out with a funeral procession march".
I think they try to balance the energy.

Although....they do capitalize on 14 Years when Izzy is around....

Nice post.  Interesting thoughts.

.    Don't think I'd wanna fuck with Axl's bodyguard!

At time of the photo, I was touching the leather of the Axl's jacket and at the same time the bodyguard was holding my hand.

Band members constantly call out songs that aren't in the order of the setlist sheet....

.       True- but I don't think that provides enough drama for some people- it's just too rational

I once was close to the soundboard and I heard Axl saying "let's throw in some shacklers" (audience couldn't hear that, unless they were close to the soundboard - like me). Seconds later they started Shackler's Revenge. They sometimes decide what to play on the fly :-)

I think Axl calls out all the songs.  Except for where they know it's a given.  Example Richard solo into Live and Let Die.

In many soundboard bootleggs its mostly Tommy and Axl who calls the songs.

;D Omg look at your smile - and even Axl is smiling in this photo. It's a great photo and congrats on meeting him which obviously meant a lot to you. So did you talk or chat or just get the photo & he left?
As hard as it is for fans to meet him, the ones that do say how polite & funny he is. I'm guessing you'll be singing his praises even more from now on.

PS. Is it really necessary for the bodyguards to be that close & in the photos?? Surely Axl's not in danger having photos taken with fans is he, I know they have a job to do but they don't need to be that intrusive surely. Correct me if I'm wrong, I live in a country where the leader of the country used to go for a jog every morning without bodyguards & the public would join in & even shake his hand or hug him - so maybe I'm a little naive to the danger Axl could be in    :-\

Nice to meet you in person, Jarmo! Hope you enjoyed Fortaleza.
Fantastic gig. Axl and the all the guys were on fire. The crowd were amazing, singing along. Unforgettable. Hope that GNR come back soon. Brazilian media are saying only good things about this show. Local GNR fans were very very impressed with the band. Most of them saw these guys only in "Rock in Rio" tv broadcasting. Some critics are saying that this was the best show of SA tour. Can't count how many people i saw crying at the end of the show. Very special night.

Thank you. I bought this t-shirt after the show, from a guy who was dismantling the stage. It's a great souvenir. Beta was wearing one like that.

Maybe you remember, in that afternoon, at the doors of the venue, I asked to you: "Where's Beta? Is she here right now?" and you said: "Early" and I added: "Too early!" ;D

;D Omg look at your smile - and even Axl is smiling in this photo. It's a great photo and congrats on meeting him which obviously meant a lot to you. So did you talk or chat or just get the photo & he left?

Thank you! It was the GREATEST moment for me like a fan since 1991! ;D ;D ;D

Axl left the venue almost three hours after the show, after all! Some fans, me and 15 others had this gold opportunity. When he came, with Beta at his side, Fernando reassured us, saying that he would take pictures with all of us!!!

All of it occurred behind the venue gates. The van was inside the venue and after it took the way to the airport.

He was very calm. The whistle that you hear in this video is from him!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ETbLXOBrcU

I had a poster that I made to ask him to sign it. I was in middle of the front row and I showed it at the time of acknowledgments, at the end of the show. He saw it, Duff too, but he couldn't sign it on that time. So, this was the time to take his sign! I took the poster to give it to him but the Brazilian security said: no autographs! Save it! :crying:

Ok, son of a bit**...

His smile is a great history!

My time to take the picture. I shook his hand and said "Thank you" for the show. In seconds I was putting my arm behind him and he said:

"This guy wanna touch my ass!" and laughed! Ha! Ha! Ha! :hihi:

After this, I put my arm behind him and he put his arm behind me and Fernando took the photo.

As we were 16 fans, there was no many time to talk, so after the photo, I shook his hand again and said "Thank You" for the show again!!!

About the bodyguard...

At time of the photo, I was touching the leather of the Axl's jacket and at the same time the bodyguard was holding my hand!

Did he think I was going to pinch Axl?! Bullshit!

I don't know in another country, but here in Brazil the local employees think that they (bodyguards, producers etc.) are the law! They think that they are bigger than everything and everyone! So forbid and block some things that after, in some cases, will be opened/allowed by the "official" crew!

It's the crew shirt for the tour. Definitely a great souvenir.
