It would have to be pretty much right after South America, right?  Doesn't that go through April?

I'm praying for some May shows...

April would be a no go for me. Have the cash, have the desire, but....work won't let me travel that month (and pretty much only that month) this year.

But anything on May 1st or later.....and it might be time for a little Vegas Vacation! :)

The last show in South America is April 9th, then Tommy has his gigs with The Replacements at Coachella later that month (April 11th & 18th).

With that in mind, I'm not sure they could fit all these shows into April...

Yeah, I thought about it.  Like...a click away from ordering tickets.

But I've been in that stadium, and, quite frankly, I'm not a fan.  And I'm less of a fan of GA Stadium shows, in general.  I'm happy they're doing it, but it's not worth the travel, for me, all things considered.  Stream that show, though...and I'd buy it in a heartbeat!

But Vegas?? And the chance to maybe catch 2 or 3 shows over a week or so vacation?

Different story!

I was just saying to my wife that there are never any good plans playing when we go to Vegas.  I'll be visiting for the 9th time April 18th for 8 nights.  Was getting so excited until Jarmo just shattered my hopes!!!!!

Is May really still 'Spring'?

Spring goes until around June 20th...the first day of summer is right around the 20th of June. My guess for the residency is the last week of April and the first 2 weeks of May.

Last time GN'R did the Hard Rock residency, it was about 3.5 weeks.
If you do 3.5 weeks and started the shows the week after the last South American gig, you'd still get into May....

If you start after Tommy's done with the Replacements, you'd definitely run over into May if you do 3.5 weeks.

Gotta love how they advertise this with a Chinese Democracy logo...Would we really have a setlist that opens with Chinese again? Or no one really cared enough yet to put together some new artwork? Anyways, happy to have some action this year.

Well if they set it up like the last one with a show on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday for four weeks. Maybe they might do the following,

Wednesday, May 21
Friday, May, 23
Saturday, May 24
Wednesday, May 28
Friday, May 30
Saturday, May 31
Wednesday, June 4
Friday, June 6
Saturday, June 7
Wednesday, June 11
Friday, June 13
Saturday, 14

That will will give them around three months to sell out like last time it. Can't wait for the dates.

I was just in Vegas for New Years going into 2014 and I was looking for GNR but could not find them.  ;D Where were you Axl?

I can't do April due to work and in May I'll be out of the country, but I hope for June when rates go down and Vegas gets hot, literally and in reality. If so, I'll be there for sure.

If the residency spans over 2 weeks, I should be able to attend.  It is just a waiting game for the specific dates now.  There are just a few weeks in the spring where I already have commitments.

I called the Hard Rock yesterday to try and get a bit more info but all they could say was the official announcement with dates was going to be made next week. Also, if you check room prices at the Hard Rock they're more expensive for the first part of May...might be a clue.

It's great news for fans in the US of course. Let's hope that more touring follows, would love for the band to tour in the UK and Europe again. And somewhere within this touring you would hope for a new album, but to be honest I'm happy with the Chinese Democracy shows and the setlist (with the inclusion of Street Of Dreams and Sorry of course). Hoping for big things for GN'R, for 2014... and it seems to of started off great!!!...  : ok: : ok: ;D

Ya, that's what I was thinking...Vinyl is way smaller than the joint so I don't know if that would work. I have no clue who Jim Jeffries is but moving any show from the joint to vinyl is a big difference. But if he plays the joint he'll have to work around the permanent GNR stage setup. I also wonder if Guns will have opening acts like last time or if they'll do it like motley crue with no openers?

I would seriously consider going to see GNR again if new songs (like brand fucking new off a future GNR album new) are confirmed to be performed. I have payed and loved every GNR show I have ever gone. But I am voting with the mighty dollar here. Its time for new music.

Thanks for the numbers.  Any idea how their residency compared to Motley Crue's?  Just wondering.

Guns N? Roses Rumored for Las Vegas Residency

We already know Guns N? Roses will be traveling to South America for a series of tour dates in the spring ? and now it looks like the band is heading to Vegas too.

The scoop appears to have been spilled by the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Las Vegas, whose Facebook page currently features the GNR logo next to ?COMING SPRING 2014.? What that means exactly, no one?s saying just yet, but the post urges fans to ?Text GNR to 97580 to be the first to hear the big news.? The venue is also spreading the news via billboard and trying to generate excitement with the #GNRVegas hashtag on Facebook and Twitter.

According to Blabbermouth, GNR?s first residency grossed more than $1.6 million over six dates between Oct. 31 and Nov. 10, 2012, drawing nearly 17,500 people in all.

I would seriously consider going to see GNR again if new songs (like brand fucking new off a future GNR album new) are confirmed to be performed. I have payed and loved every GNR show I have ever gone. But I am voting with the mighty dollar here. Its time for new music.

You'd incur travel expenses to see this man?  Brave.

For axlrosegnr? Damn right. He is one of the coolest motherfuckers I have ever had the privilege of meeting/hanging out with. If I go axlrosegnr would be one of the main reasons I would.

No, I meant Axl himself.

He no showed on me at an arena 20 minutes form house.  Incredibly frustrating and disappointing evening.  But I wasn't really out anything.  My ticket cost got refunded.

But to incur plane tickets, lodging, etc?  I think you'd have to be out of your fucking mind.  No refunds on that stuff.  Because that may be the night he doesn't show.  Or storms off stage after 5 songs.

And before the usual apologists come in to tell me that he hasn't done that stuff in a few years, I can point to a FAR longer list of artists that have never done it, ever.

Axl is just a bad risk.  He comes to your town?  Yeah, go.  But incur expenses to travel and see him?  Risky as hell, in my view.

Are you serious?

So people pointing out facts are labeled "apologists" now. Keep pointing at your list of artists while the rest of the fans enjoy the shows.

Amazing how this was an issue for you guys for years, and then once things changed, you started reminding people how it used to be bad and it could happen again. Win-win for you!

Deadly serious.

You are seriously going to puff out your chest simply because he hasn't done any of that irresponsible shit on the last leg?  That's a big win for you?  Talk about your low bars.

If you want to point out "facts", there is no debating the fact he has a terrible track record on this stuff.  Those are facts, albeit inconvenient ones to some, it seems.

He's a riskier act to rely on than any other major act on his level.  That's a fact.  Of all the artists I go see, only one do I find myself saying "man, hope he shows up".  And I say it as 30% gallows humor, 70% genuine concern.

"On the last leg"? Shows how out of touch you are. You're just like all the uninformed who like to keep repeating the same shit in order to make it true.

Here's some facts: He's showed up to over 200 shows since Dj joined the band. All over the world.
Maybe this is difficult to grasp for someone who's so obsessed about the "facts" about him not showing up.

And on the subject of the Vegas residency. I got news for you, he showed up in 2012! For all those shows!

There's not much we can do about you being bitter about a show being canceled. Possibly over ten years ago.....

There's a certain kind of people who will always remind us how bad things are, and when they change, how bad they were. And how something bad might still happen.
Sometimes they see themselves as "level headed" and "objective".

Ironically enough, some of these people often have problems giving credit when it's due. If something good happens, they're not seen....

To summarize the facts for those who aren't up-to-date with GN'R:

GN'R has played over 200 shows since Dj joined the band (since December 2009).
A show in Costa Rica was canceled due to an unsafe stage in April 2010. Two shows were canceled in 2011 in the USA due to production issues.
The Dublin show you keep hearing about? The band went back to Dublin in 2012 and played a show without any incidents. The band has also played successful shows in Vancouver, Montreal and Philadelphia without any incidents.

Even at his most undependable, the ACTUAL % of shows he cancelled (using total shows scheduled as the denominator) STILL wouldn't put me off.  And trending says that, in the past 4 to 5 years, the risk has gotten even lower (to the point of almost nothing).  To me...this doesn't seem like much of a risk.  I doubt weather issues or production issues with their set being moved are likely to rear their heads....

Especially considering the shows are in freakin' Vegas.  Somehow, as disappointed as I'd be with a cancellation, I think I could probably find SOMETHING to keep my wife and I occupied and happy while there.  :P

DX... I often see eye to eye with you on some of ur criticisms, often they are valid...but not this one

give the guy his due when its deserved... he has been pretty reliable lately... dont know why Jarmo hasnt mentioned since DJ joined... dont see how he has anything to do with it but Axl has been much more on point in recent times.. i wouldnt worry about him not showing up at this point

not unless there was a reallllly big basketball game on tv  ;D

Axl will show up  ::)

With GNR i'd only exercise caution if you rely on public transport. Even if Axl took the stage at 9, you won't be leaving till about 12, which is pushing it for trains and buses. However this is vegas so hotels are on your doorstep.

I am speaking just to the track record in relation to other bands.

Take them and any other 2 bands you want.  GNR, Pearl Jam and U2 for example.  Based on track record, would you have any real concerns of a no show, unexplained cancellation, or a storm off 5 songs in for whatever reason with those fellas?  Not really.  And once you compare those things to GNR, its not even a question in terms of where the higher risk lies.

Even look at something like the RNR HOF.  People bought tickets and made arrangements to be in Cleveland to see the band go in.  Then, what...week of, Axl bails?

You just have to be on the lookout for that shit with this band.  The track record is what it is.

And to tell me that things have been good lately, yes, that's valid.  Its also telling me that the guy with 5 prior DUIs is on the straight and narrow because he didn't have one within the year.  Maybe he didn't, but the history of him being a bad risk will always be present based on a proven track record over time.

Axl has completely rectified the situation in terms of reliability taking the stage.  I do not view traveling g to Las Vegas as a risk whatsoever anymore.  Sure when I did this in 2001 I was a little nervous.  People change, and frankly Axl is not getting enough credit for rectifying the problem.  He deserves some credit for this.  This isn't the same problem from 2002.  He is completely reliable and professional fulfilling his commitments.

I'm not sure how that's really relevant, to most people.  Unless there is another band doing a Vegas residency around that time that you think members of this forum would rather see.

Because, unless the choice is between GnR and Band A...how GnR "compares" doesn't really matter.  It's not really a factor in the decision making process.

The only think that matters when evaluating "Would I take a risk, making travel arrangements, to see THIS man" is, ultimately, whats the actual level of risk.

Given overall history, and trending recent history...it's rather low.

Are U2 and Pearl Jam doing a Vegas residency, too?  Man...that would be AWESOME! Then I could see all 3!

Axl didn't bail.  Axl never, ever, ever said he was attending.  There's a big...and not just semantic...difference.

If your argument is he should have said one way or the other, sooner....fair enough.  But that's not the same as bailing, or no showing.

Quote

Yup, but..historically...while it happens...it really doesn't happen all that high of a % of time.  The bad shit is what's notable.  We overlook the relatively good shit.

If the guy had a history of occasional DUI in his youth, and then went 5 years without one....yeah, I'd say he'd earned a second chance.

Would I consider his history? Yes...ALL of it.  Not just the negative/bad parts...with especially heavy weight toward the recent historical trending.

Five seldom-played songs for Guns N? Roses? set list at Hard Rock

You may have seen the billboard on I-15 with the Guns N? Roses logo on it, teasing something big for the band locally this spring. Here it is: The group will be returning to The Joint at the Hard Rock Hotel for a second residency after a well-received stint there in the fall of 2012. I saw the nearly three-hour show, dubbed ?Appetite for Democracy,? and it was indeed an awesomely overblown rock ?n? roll spectacle. But here?s the gripe: Despite what the band said in advance of their residency, the set list at The Joint shows was pretty much exactly what GNR has been playing on tour with their current lineup for years now. The production may have been slightly different, but not the selection of material they performed, with a few exceptions. The same thing can be said for Motley Crue during their two extended stays at The Joint. The band that did the whole residency thing at the venue the best?

Def Leppard, who played two sets each night, with the first set being rare songs and B-sides that the band had seldom, if ever, played before. This made the concert feel special, something worth traveling to Vegas for in order to see a show that you couldn?t see anywhere else.

And that?s what a residency is supposed to be all about, right? With this in mind, with Guns N? Roses returning to The Joint, here are five seldom-played songs that I?d like to see the band dust off at the Hard Rock:

?Coma?: My personal favorite song off of ?Use Your Illusion I,? ?Coma? is the band?s longest at more than 10 minutes in duration. The epic, tangled tune doesn?t have a chorus and is among the most adventurous they ever recorded.

?14 Years?: Easily the coolest moment during GNR?s first Vegas residency was when the band was joined by former guitarist Izzy Stradlin, who performed this ode to Rose and Stradlin?s friendship that the latter sang on ?Use Your Illusion II.? But Stradlin only participated in the last two gigs of the 12-date run. Bring him back for the whole thing this time, please.

?Reckless Life?: Pretty much one prolonged snarl, this bare bones, bare knuckle rocker was originally penned by Hollywood Rose, the band that prefaced Guns N? Roses. You can hear a live version of it on the band?s ?Lies? EP. Twenty five years later, let?s hear it live once more.

?Anything Goes?: This libidinous come-on is just about the only song off of ?Appetite for Destruction? that the band stopped playing ages ago. This might have something to do with the profane lyrics, but it?s a down and dirty reminder of this band?s down and dirty origins.

?Prostitute?: Not sure why this great, reflective, symphonic ?Chinese Democracy? album closer has never made into the band?s set list much, but this would be a good time to change all that.

The 3 live version of 'Coma' I have (Tokyo '92, Chicago '92, Nebraska '93) are all excellent.

You'd wonder with a long song like that with several stops, starts, and tempo changes might suffer.  It really didn't.  Axl even killed the long passage at the end, word for word.

'Locomotive' is another one.  The versions from NYC '91 and Tokyo '92 are flawless.

I Called them and the said the same thing SMH... Why cant GNR ever gives 4-5 months in advance to "prepare" for a show. Its always like this. 2-3 months TOPS! Most acts put tickets on sale 5,6,7 months in advance. Not our band. Not GNR. Smh... Wont you sell more tickets that way??? By putting tickets on sale 5-6 months before the show? SPECIALLY outside the US where some fans struggle for money... I dont get it man. By the time they annouce the dates, HOTEL AND FLIGHT WILL BE MORE EXPENSIVE... But im wrong for pointing this out....
What is it? Is it that the show theyre playing in OHIO 5/16 dont want to lose potential audience? Are they afraid they might choose Vegas instead???? I dont get it... Always something... But dont worry, Im still going... Smh

Hotels and flights aren't necessarily more expensive two-three months in advance compared to six months in advance.

Yes, you're right. I believe sometimes things like when you can announce shows do play into the equation.
Why do you think they often announce festival dates before the other shows in the same region? Like New York City last June or the UK tours in 2006 and 2010....

It's just frustrating because traveling to vegas for a residency takes planning. You have to book time off work, hotels, flights, and you have to save and have a budget for the trip. Most of those things aren't a big deal, but booking time off of work can be a problem for a lot of people if there isn't a lot of advanced notice. I was looking forward to Monday so I could get everything booked. I've booked rooms based around the rumored dates as well as time off of work. The rooms can be cancelled no problem, but if they wait a while to announce the dates and they happen to be different from the rumored dates, changing my holidays at work could be a problem.

On the negative side, I can't do a lot of gambling because I need to save $$ for GNR  :crying:

The announcement was supposed to be today, but then that got changed to within the next few weeks. Then apparently someone from mygnr was told today that the announcement got pushed back one week. Take it for what it's worth but it sounds promising.

Best of the new songs, I think.  Was knocked out the first time I heard the leak, and it never really wavered for me.

Love the guitar work on that track.

So it looks like it starts May 31st (based on Hard Rock website)?  Sorry if I haven't been paying attention - but how long would a residency typically last?  I'm assuming they will be there for the first 2-3 weeks of June then?

Do they sell out every show at a residency?  Not just them, I mean anybody.

Has to be some nights you have some empty seats, no?  Not a Friday or Saturday, but like...a Tuesday night.

USA Today Picked up on this -

http://www.usatoday.com/story/life/music/2014/02/18/guns-n-roses-return-to-las-vegas-for-second-residency/5572327/

Guns N' Roses return to Vegas with 'No Trickery!'

Edna Gundersen, USA TODAY 3:03 a.m. EST February 18, 2014

Two years after its first residency, Guns N' Roses returns with the nine-show 'No Trickery! An Evening of Destruction'.

Fans with an appetite for destruction, here's your new happy meal.

Guns N' Roses is gearing up for a second run at The Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.

The band's return, dubbed No Trickery! An Evening of Destruction, comprises nine shows at The Joint: May 21, 24, 25, 28, 30 and 31 and June 4, 6 and 7.

GNR has crafted a new production to follow up its first engagement at the venue, 2012's loud, eye-popping and hit-packed Appetite for Democracy.

"If some is good, more is better!" Bobby Reynolds, vice president of booking for AEG Live Las Vegas, told USA TODAY. "That's our take on welcoming back Guns N' Roses to The Joint. Our first residency with GNR was fantastic in every way imaginable. The band and the fans loved the venue, and the business was great for everyone else involved. We want all of the Guns N' Roses fans across the globe to come see what one of the iconic rock 'n' roll bands can do when they have the best venue in the world to do it in, in a city made to party. We are gearing up for another epic residency."

Chas Smith, vice president of entertainment for Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, weighed in, "We are really looking forward to having one of the true American rock 'n' roll bands back and performing at The Joint. Every time we have Guns N' Roses play in The Joint, it just keeps getting better.

"What more can I say than it's a great honor to have one of the most iconic rock 'n' roll bands in the world coming back to rock The Joint for nine more shows! We are all excited about this next run."

GNR, which has sold more than 100 million albums globally since its formation in 1985, consists of founder/front man Axl Rose, guitarist DJ Ashba, guitarist Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, guitarist Richard Fortus, bassist Tommy Stinson, keyboardist Dizzy Reed, keyboardist Chris Pitman and drummer Frank Ferrer. The band's most recent album is 2008's Chinese Democracy.

Tickets start at $49.50 and go on sale at 10 a.m. PT/1 p.m. ET Friday. To buy tickets, visit the Hard Rock Hotel box office or charge by phone at 888-9-AXS-TIX. For further details, go to HardRockHotel.com or GunsNRoses.com.

I literally came in my pants with this announcement. Great move by the band, a residency is a lot of fun and gives them that extra integrity, something the old guitar guy has none. This is something for the hardcore fanbase, so I'm sure they will play some deep cuts and new songs, the few casuals attending will love it anyway.

Looks great!

Blade Runner'ish, a little Illusion/90s vibe, neon is pure Vegas and still kinda it's own. Less is more. Yowza!  :smoking:

Hope there's an awesome "theme" to match. Like the last one (Appetite for Democracy).

Wonder what it'll be though..

Mounting a second run due to overwhelming demand, the group is set to perform nine unparalleled raw and gritty rock shows starting May 21 through June 7.

Guns N? Roses wowed fans and critics in 2012 with its first residency, Appetite for Democracy, at The Joint. The exclusive run featured a jam-packed set list, explosive pyrotechnics, eye-popping stage display and much more. This year?s engagement is bound to bring even more surprise elements as the group takes over for a once-in-a-lifetime rock ?n? roll experience.

Designed exclusively for The Joint in partnership with AEG Live, Guns N? Roses? No Trickery! An Evening of Destruction residency will feature an all-new production to highlight the band?s legacy. ?Guns N? Their second residency is going to bigger than ever, giving fans what they want plus more.?

Thal (guitar), Richard Fortus (guitar), Tommy Stinson (bass), Dizzy Reed (keyboards), Chris Pitman (keyboards) and Frank Ferrer (drums). Since its debut album Appetite for Destruction dropped in 1987, the band has released  a catalog of critically acclaimed albums including GN?R Lies (1988), double album Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II (1991), The Spaghetti Incident? (1993), and Chinese Democracy (2008).

Ticket prices start at $49.50 (plus applicable service fees).

For last residency I bought my tickets through Hard Rock. I want to get pre-sale today through Nighttrain so was wondering once I log-in (at 10am) is there a tab I need to go to find the tickets?

Sorry for stupid question just new to Nighttrain

I didn't see that option from the pre-sale.

Was wondering about that myself.

Does anyone know what the seating configuration is going to be? Is it all general admission on the floor, or, do they have seats on the floor behind the general admission part in front of the stage? I assume that it will be the same as the last time they played there.

Also, does anyone who went to the shows last time have any opinions/suggestions on what are good seats/bad seats at the Joint?

There are no bad seats...the front part of the floor is GA and the back half is seating. The balcony (sections 300 & 400) are also great. The tables along the side balconies aren't really my thing...there are tables with 4 chairs at each table. There's also GA on one of the side balconies...that gets pretty crowded and is the worst spot to be. But anywhere on the floor and the 300 and 400 sections are awesome!

Got section 303, right in the middle, for 6.6 and 6.7.

Last times I sat in 302, 304, and one time off to the left I don't remember, maybe 301? Anyway, it's going to be great!

Hi Guys, can someone please explain the venue for me. The VIP meet and greet tickets are  for the Reserved Floor right.. What on earth is this? You have to stand on a special part of the floor set out just for you? Or is it indeed seats as it asks if you want 'Best available seats that are located together'.  The general admission floor looks like the best space to me?? Am I missing something?

From what I remember, there's a section behind the GA floor. I guess this is the so called Reserved Floor. It's not at the barricade in the front, but you do get a nice view.

Hopefully this link works: http://thejointlasvegas.com/Images/Seating-Chart/joint_sro_ga.aspx

Thinking about the logistics of it, I'd assume the Meet & Greet and photo opportunity will happen at the same time...
Because you have the band guys there, so why not take the photo?

There are two AE boxes on AXS.com site. The top one did not work for me. The bottom one did. I put in the 1-888 then whatever the number was on my card.

Be sure there are no spaces between the numbers. So it would be 1800xxxxxxx or for me 1888xxxxxxx.

I entered the data in the first AE box and got nothing, then opened second AE box and everything worked and I did not even reenter the data. As I said, its a funky process.

I agree. On 12.31.11 I was in 304 and I was the only person in the whole fucking section that was standing. You can see me when you look at Jarmo's photo from the stage to the audience. A lot of people left, it was a dead scene. But then 11.21.12 I was on the floor (the DVD show) and again a lot of people left. In fact the guy and his wife next to me left immediately after Brownstone!! It was the third song in the show and they left!!

My point is that there are  a lot casual lookers and not all gunners so no matter where you are people will leave. No guarantees even on the floor. Although truth be told on the floor right at the stage is the best for sure.

Yeah... i spoke with a lot of people around town during the residency that were not die hard fans that went to just check out the shows because it was like an event they wanted to check out

not a knock on GNR...but anytime any act plays for almost three hours at that time of night... only die hards are going to stick thru the whole show

when i stood up in the balcony an older couple behind me actually asked me if i could sit because they couldnt see ! lol

so yeah i definitely recommend the GA for this venue with the whole vegas residency background, because there are a lot of just people checking out something new while on vacation

When I saw Guns in Vegas on 11.23.12 (the first Izzy appearance) some people in my section stood up and the section behind started yelling at them to sit down. A couple of girls next to me stood the whole time even though the people behind them were calling them names and throwing shit at them. I just thought to myself, what is the point of going to a rock concert if you are going to sit the whole show. And of course everyone stands up for Sweet Child and then sits back down. I just don't get it.

I went to see Avenged Sevenfold during the last tour. I like a few of their songs, wouldn't say I'm a huge fan by any means but for $30 tickets it was worth seeing. If you're a diehard A7X fan, it would be the best show ever with the production and all, but we stayed for like an hour then left......

Now for GNR I stay until the band is off, because they're my favorite, but if you're a casual fan, I'd guess most people want to check it out to say they saw GNR but they end up getting a 3 hour show

Try being a 28 year old Stones fan.  If you clap too loudly you run the risk of upsetting the guy behind you at one of their concerts.  It's unreal.

Sadly, this is the state of concerts these days. It's not $5.50 anymore to see a show, more like $100.
It's a different audience.

So true.  I've seen the last several tours all the way back to 'Voodoo Lounge'.

I am often the only one in my section that knows the new songs.  It always seems like everyone around me, the last album they bought was 'Some Girls', and the latest tune they know is 'Start Me Up'.

The friend I took to the last Stones show I went to last May is a huge fan, and is a pretty eccentric guy.  When they started playing Rocks Off he started dancing around, singing along.  The guys behind us were furious.  They were like "Sit down man! These tickets were expensive!!"  They were furious that someone interrupted their staring contest with the stage.   ::)

I thought 'Voodoo Lounge' and 'A Bigger Bang' were very solid.  'Bridges To Babylon', I felt was not quite on that level, but good.

Sadly, 'You Got Me Rockin' is about all you might ever get a concert now, of all 3 of those albums.

We're going to already be in Vegas on May 21st but we have tickets to another Vegas show on the Strip, it runs from 8 - 9:30 PM. Any idea what time GN'R will be hitting the stage? IIRC they didn't go on until after 11 PM during the 2012 Las Vegas run. We're hoping to be able to go to both shows so a late start for GN'R would be a good thing for us. Also are we expecting a 3 hour set?

We're going to already be in Vegas on May 21st but we have tickets to another Vegas show on the Strip, it runs from 8 - 9:30 PM. Any idea what time GN'R will be hitting the stage? IIRC they didn't go on until after 11 PM during the 2012 Las Vegas run. We're hoping to be able to go to both shows so a late start for GN'R would be a good thing for us. Also are we expecting a 3 hour set?

Who knows what 2014 will bring, but in 2012 the Wed shows went on about 11 pm or shortly thereafter, and the Fri/Sat shows went on about midnight. I would guess it will be the same but ultimately your guess is as good as mine. For my Fri/Sat shows I am assuming a midnight appearance to about 3 am or after. It's so rock n' roll in the sin capital of the world. Gotta love it.

A bit of advice to my East coast friends.  Try to get to Vegas a day before the show you are seeing.  In 2012, I went to a show the day I got there.  Since it ended at 3 AM, my body felt like it was 6 AM.  Yes, I am old and I got tired.  This time I am arriving a day early to get adjusted to the time zone difference.

You gotta give us some more hints.

Do you wanna stay close to the venue? Are you looking for a cheaper place than the Hard Rock?

By the way, you can get up to 15% off at the Hard Rock if you're going before May 30th: https://www.hardrockhotel.com/las-vegas-specials/hotel-deals/rooms-up-to-15-off-homepage/494

Could be tight.  Its about a 15 minute cab ride to the strip.

And they re-did their airport, so its a fucking haul now.  You have to take a freakin' monorail type dealy and still walk all the way through it.

Best of luck.

There are tons of places off the strip that do not cost much at all. I am talking less than $50 a night. The main benefit of Hard Rock is that after the show you are "home" in 10 minutes so you can stumble up to your room and sleep. No dealing with taxis or having to go anywhere else.

The odd thing is that at 2-3 am all the bars at the Hard Rock are closed....so the options for staying up are limited.

Right. And don't take a shuttle bus like Supershuttle because they stop at hundreds of places en route. Spend a few bucks more and get a direct taxi and you'll be at the hotel in 15 minutes easy. Guns is unlikely to go on before 11 if there is an opening band.  My tix for June say "at 10pm" which I am guessing means the opening band. I highly doubt it means 10pm for Axl. I would think you'll be fine.

I got a Southwest Air vacation package from Dallas which included airfare and 2 nights at Hard Rock for $693. Air tickets alone were $600 and hotel room alone was $130 a night, so I think I got a good deal. For those of you served by SW Air, check out their vacation packages. Just click on "Vacation" and then "air plus hotel."

I will be heading to the 31st show driving all the way from northern saskachawan canada. It will be a twenty plus hour drive non stop with a little detour to grab some goodies in colorado :smoking:will be traveling with my two older brothers and my best friend. My oldest bro keith who hasent seen gnr since 1993 in saskatoon is the one who got me into gnr when i was only eleven, and my other brother kyle who i must admit i hated when i was young because he would pick on me alot growing up,and would bug me about being such a big gnr fan just finally admitted to me all these years is that he loves gnr. And my best friend who was a big fan of the original band, and didnt give the new lineup a chance until i took him to see them in saskatoon in 2010 front row, and to this day loves this line up more than the original because of there energy and great performance they put on that night in saskatoon and lists chinese democracy as one of his favoright albumes. I cant wait for this road trip to vegas, ive been to the usa once before and that was to the last residency and i flew with my wife so this time traveling with my best friend and my two brothers over 1800 miles one way should be crazy

I believe they were a limited thing. As the e-mail from gunsnroses.com stated: VIP packages will become available for a limited time only
The ticket links now take you to axs.com, in other words gunsnroses.com doesn't sell the actual tickets anymore.

Now, it's still possible they might offer upgrade packages like they've done in the past.

Dice's sons have a band that open for his show. They probably know Paradise City.

Last time Axl went on Kimmel to promote the Vegas residency, maybe the other Jimmy's going to get a crack at interviewing him.

Just so I understand......

I bought 2 VIP tix for the 30th. For the 31st I bought the table tickets....I can't buy the VIP upgrade for them?

Why not?

The VIP upgrade let's you take part in the Meet & Greet and also some merchandise (lithograph, laminate).

I figured it out with some help. Just had to scroll down and click ok  ::)

Now I'll have the VIP both nights

I'm ready for another two show weekend in Las Vegas!!

Purchased my tickets for June 6th and 7th.  ;D

I've booked lodging.

Now I need the airfare to come down a bit. If not, it'll be two long days on the road.

Can't wait.

whats the best place to stay if I don't wanna be at the Hard Rock? I might be solo too do wanna take that into consideration

Depends how cheap you want. I believe there's a Red Roof Inn across the street from the Hard Rock. Possibly the cheapest rooms around that area.
There's also a Hyatt, Embassy Suites around.

Look on sites likes priceline.com.

For anyone who's interested, the Red Roof Inn used to be called the Comfort Inn I believe. That's exactly where I stayed when I flew over there from the UK in 2006, and they are great rooms, at amazing prices.

For the location alone, I'd definitely recommend it, and the cheap prices of the hotel are a bonus... definitely one to book guys.  :)

(This hotel is literally right across the road, it'll be more of an effort to go to the local store than it would be to go to the hard Rock :D)

One way to save money on hotel rooms is to book a room for Friday night only. You don't really need a room for Sat night if you take an early flight. I did it for the NYE shows a few yrs ago. It's not that bad... Show probably will probably end at 2am and take a 6am flight home after spending all day at the pool or spa!

I'm a female and did it! You guys need to grow some balls

Kidding,

If you sign-up/register for the Backstage Pass (a Hardrock casino players card), which is free and takes 30 seconds online, you automatically qualify for 50% off the rooms at the HardRock.  I did this and got a pretty decent suite, with pool view for 4 nights for $350.  I could have gone for a non suite, with a mountain view for quite a bit less.  Anyways check it out....

I wish they would do something more hard core, rock n roll club like instead of flashy Vegas glam.  Something reminiscence of the early club days of GNR.

I am pretty sure not all seats were sold last time..at least the two nights I was there

I was playing poker in between shows and wearing one of the concert t shirts.. and a couple people at the tables said to me how was the show.. i told them it was great and they ended up buying tickets and going the next night... im sure there were a lot of walk ups each night

Given the nature of the place and the comps, no show in the entire town should ever have an empty seat.

I go out there every year.  I've seen concerts, comedians, magicians.  Never seen an empty seat, ever.

The ones that are out so far from South America aren't really dynamite quality.  Hopefully, our luck will change in Las Vegas.

These shows don't sell out ahead of time...if at all. None of the shows during the first residency completely sold out. Motley Crue has done 2 residencies and none of those shows were sold out...same for Def Leppard's residency. Sure a lot of tickets are purchased by fans who are planning a Vegas trip around the shows, but the majority of tickets for these shows are bought by people who go to vegas for a holiday and have no clue about the shows until they get to vegas and decide to catch a show. A lot of tickets are bought a day before or the day of the show.

I'm not sure your statement about none of the shows for any of these acts selling out is exactly true given I don't know the numbers.

But, I agree 100% with the rest of your statement.

The entire reason that residencies take place in Vegas is because of the high turnover due to the tourism and other reasoning for trips to Vegas.  It's like playing to a new group of people without ever moving.  I'd be willing to bet that the promoters are fully aware and expecting a lot of walkups to the show.  I saw that myself first hand at the last residency.

I'd agree, but this suggests that people take trips to Vegas with no legwork.  Is that real world?

I've been going to Vegas every year for 7 years.  And months ahead of time, I check out what shows/comedians/magicians will be there.  In my experience, this is what most people do.  I'd certainly argue more people do that then say they are going to fly out there and just wing it.  Maybe, *maybe*, if you are a trust fund baby just driving in for the weekend.  But a planned trip with flights months in advance?  Are you winging that?

The only reason I ask about how its selling is because you can still get pretty decent seats in the orchestra section on AXS. The tables, GA Balcony, and suites are all but sold out for most shows, and most of the seated balcony sections have tickets in the higher 400s

I think a lot of people who have been to vegas a few times just go without much of a plan. They know what the permanent/regular shows are and they know what they like to spend their time doing while in Vegas.

I saw more people than I can count walking up to the ticket booth buying tickets.  It may not be no "legwork", but not months in advance legwork.

There is a lot of influx from the surrounding area, southern Cali, etc, where people just jump in the car and "wing it" for a short 5 hr trip. Its basically what I'm doing, I'm already gonna be out vacationing in Cali all moth , leave tomorrow :) !!. but I bought a tix for the show on the 24th, and my cousin and I will drive out there for the day crash that night and head back the next day. Id love to stay for the 25th show, but its memorial weekend, and the hotel prices are insane that weekend. Plus I leave on Tuesday, and don't want to be shot getting back late Monday night just to jump on the plane..lol And I rather be at the BBQ pool party with the family before I come back here to NY.

I apologize if this has already been covered.

Will Duff be part of the residency in Vegas?

If not, do you think he'll come on for a guest spot for a night or two?

Also, what's your bet on a new song or two being unveiled during the Vegas shows?

Whatever the case on any of these, it sounds like it's going to be a blast.

Is it just a strange coincidence that talk of a new album (if true, obviously amazing) comes right before the Vegas residency?  Wasn't that the case during the first Vegas residency 2 years ago, and did that result in any new music?  Unless the message comes from Axl (or Jarmo), I'm not holding my breath.

subject ALWAYS comes up....journalists always include last, most noteable (good or bad) and usually future release references in their articles for the masses....

As for a DJ produced albulm.....I hope DJ has a finger in it and I hope Ron has a finger in it and so on with Frank, Dizzy, Chris, Richard, Tommy.....at the end of the day you KNOW Axl will have his say and I haven't been dissapointed with his track record thus far, so I hope everyone can contribute and when the time is right.....we get something awesome

I think Jarmo is right.  Any reporter worth a damn will obviously ask about a new album.

As for the answers they give?  Well, they aren't exactly overflowing with credibility, based on their track record.  Both in terms of what they've said in the past, and the fact none of it ever really comes to be.

But I still say I'd rather hear this sort of talk than a shoulder shrug.  Or telling us they are focusing on the 14th leg of the same tour.

I buy that the band will spend time working on stuff while in Vegas.  There are a number of good recording studios there as well.  Question is will Axl take part?

/jarmo

True...it does seem like the inevitable question to ask, and journalists pay more attention when the band's doing stuff, like a residency.  From reading these quotes over the years, I try not to get too excited (kind of like a been there/heard that before) but it doesn't work.  I still find myself thinking, "man, it's going to happen this time!"

Jarmo, will you be there for the whole residency?

I think it's been reported that Tommy will be back.

Anybody know if there are going to be opening bands for this residency? They seem like a waste of time in a vegas residency. People want to go, see guns and leave...I don't think people who are in vegas on vacation want to be at a show for 5 hours...a 3 hour guns show is long enough. Motley didn't have an opener in September and it was great.

Going for 5 shows i Vegas and was just curious if anybody knew wich hotel the band was staying at.
My guess is that Axl is NOT stayin at The Hard Rock, but maybe at The Wynn or Ballagio.
The band and crew might stay at The Hard Rock?
What do you Guys think or know?

Anybody know if there is any change for meeting the band members before or after the shows?

Thanks  :peace:

Who operates that twitter account? Does anyone know the details?

The account is run by "wfuckinga", a.k.a "wfa", a.k.a "walker alford". He was the izzy impostor online for years, and he admitted it last year on mygnrforum when he slipped up and was called out on his BS. He also runs fake accounts of Beta and Paul Tobias (which he calls "parody").

I'm not really active on the forums these days, but hopefully some old timer can vouch for my having contact with Izzy years ago. I emailed Izzy about the Army last year and he confirmed to me at the time that he has never done a Q&A with that page and that he wouldn't contact them.

The #notrickery Q&A by GNR hinted that Izzy and Duff might make an appearance in Vegas, but nothing has been officially confirmed. Hope no-one has booked flights/hotels hoping to see Izzy or Duff because of these fakes  :-\

Did you also setup when fans could buy like a dog? If so; thanks for that :-)
I at first just assumed that 'izzy's army' was by the same fan (you?).

Apparently it's just another attention-whore.

I can vouch for Will, he used to run the Chopaway website and was indeed an integral part of the 'Like a Dog' thing. Now that there is no website, I'm not sure whether Izzy is still in contact with anyone any more. Maybe Izzydutch  8)

I was at the show on the 28th. Great show, loved mostly every minute of it. Gotta respect a band that can play 3 hours straight with energy. More Energy in fact then the folks just sitting in their seats, who left early. Incredible. With that said, I was pretty disappointed with the lack of Chinese Democracy songs played. I mean, come on, 4 tracks only? Walking through the Hard Rock you could hear more than 4 Chinese Democracy songs played! I haven't been to the board in a bit, and wasn't familiar with the newer set-lists, so maybe that's why I was taken back by it. Regardless, I feel like, they're out there touring, why aren't they using the tour to promote the "new" album? And for me, I'd much rather hear TWAT, IRS, Street of Dreams, If the World, Prostitute, Sorry, or Riad n the Bedouins (LOVE me some Riad n the Bedouins!!!), then any of the solos, Riff Raff, Attitude, Raw, any of the canned jams, or Seeker...Ok, I DO like Seeker. Seriously, most the folks who paid the cash aren't there to listen to guitar solos, or off the beaten path covers. That's the reality. It's cool by me, but anyone on this board is probably more into the band then the common listener, so our thoughts on the topic shouldn't be considered mass appeal. On a side/personal note, my wife is most familiar with Chinese Democracy and the HITS from Appetite of course. So she was also let down by the fact that all her Fav's from CD were absent. TWAT, IRS, and Street of Dreams, BARE MINIMUM, need to be added back into the set. They're the best fucking tracks on the album outside of Better. Come on, who's with me on this? Or is it just me?  :peace:

Its little more than a greatest hits nostalgia operation these days.  Its not like they are playing these shows to break any new ground or move anything forward.

They are playing the old hits for fans that want to hear the old hits.

As much as is want to hear TWAT, most casual concert goers want to hear the AFD and UYI stuff. If they played exclusively CD only songs, then it would have to be intimate shows, which I would go to of course

Very true.  I absolutely understand the argument that you have to play the hits, and I don't even dispute it.

But I think the reality is that if you are still willing to pay to see the band in the current incarnation, you aren't all that averse to a new song.  If you are willing to pay money for travel and lodging to see this current band, is there a super argument you didn't plunk down $14 for 'Chinese Democracy'?

I doubt that, highly.

Of course they couldn't play CD exclusively, the show would only be the 14 songs long. I'm happy to have AFD and UYI songs being played too, and I agree that is indeed what most folks want to hear. However, do the Solos, Riff Raff, Attitude, or Raw, Seeker, or the jams appear on AFD or UYI? So if they're already doing non AFD or UYI music, I would venture to guess that most people would rather hear CD tracks instead. And again, just my thoughts, the handful of CD songs I listed are WAY better then any of that stuff.

The only thing I can think of is that Axl and the band aren't happy with the way the band performs those songs live. They all said they really enjoy playing the new material, so that's not it. The whole thing just doesn't make sense to me. CD wasn't exactly the hottest album ever to release, I just feel like the time would be better spent putting that album in the hands and minds of as many people as possible, by playing the songs live to the people that showed up. There's a lot of people who don't even know CD exists, hard as that is for us to believe. Every time I told anyone that my wife and I were going to see GNR in Vegas, the first question was, "Is Axl still in the Band", OR, "Is Slash still in the Band"? That gives you an idea of what everyday people know of current GNR. And many of the attendees I saw and spoke to in Vegas weren't Mega Fans like us. That's an opportunity missed.

4 years ago the sets had more CD.

I was about 5 back from the stage for the 28th and 31st and was at the sound board for the 30th and beside the fans on the rail, most of the people around me, seemed lost when a CD tune came on.  I think they have adjusted for that.

And yes people I have talked to, even on the floor still ask about old members.  Some didn't even understand why Duff being there was such a big deal.  Something you have to deal with.

Despite that....they were amazing shows!

No doubt, great shows! Loved it, and would travel to Vegas again if they do it next year.

As far as the new stuff... Lost maybe, but a way to get them Found is to actually play the songs. Most music takes repetition to build familiarity, and through familiarity comes an appreciation for the music. There are also those songs you hear once, and fall in love right away. A hypothetical, but maybe they play IRS and someone hears it and loves it enough to find out what it was, and actually buys CD. Now they're a fan of New Guns! And that may have happened with the 4 CD tracks they did play. Someone hears The Seeker... and maybe they buy a "new" WHO album  ;D

Most people seeing the shows didn't make a special trip to Vegas to see them.  I would think the ajority of people seeing them find out GN'R has a residency that just so happens to be taking place during the dates they planned their vacation and so see a GN'R show instead of cirque du soleil.

Maybe they weren't fans but just people going to a concert. 3 years ago I wouldn't have known who Duff even was, never heard of him or Izzy, Steven, Dizzy. Now I know them all, most of their old songs & most of Chinese Democracy & if only, if only Axl would sing ITW & it was caught on film I would be in my element. I also would be if Duff made an appearance at my concert - so does that make me a 'true fan' or a 'casual fan' ?  :-\

Since late 2011 I've learnt most of the songs, bought 3 released cd's, downloaded heaps of concerts, been to a concert & met most of the band. I still have people ask if Slash is in the band though, so when people talk about diehard fans I wonder what category I'm in.   ???

Hope everyone enjoys tonight's show & we get much more info coming out of it with pics & videos. Sitting here waiting all afternoon for photos  : ok:

As a top of the bill act, the band has always done covers, Axl has always done costume changes during solo (remember Matt's drum solo  :-\ ) Nothing new is happening these days in this regard, enjoy the show folks.

I wouldn't mention costume change, remember when Slash said that & Axl went troppo at him??

Now that the residency is over... I have a question about the band and Duff, that im hoping somebody close to the guys has some info on

Does anybody know why Duff played a whole show in the middle instead of Tommy?, I love Duff, but I don't get why nobody here seems to care about that night...

if you went to a metallica concert and Jason Newsted was playing bass instead of Trujillo.... i think people would notice and ask why...

and Duff who is usually very out there and fan friendly, has not said anything in the press or twitter about is GNR experiences lately , leads me to believe he was told not to in fear or stirring reunion discussion

What is there to say. Tommy needed the night off (presumably it's personal) and Duff was asked to stand in. And it was the best weekend ever!

Actually took 4 off to fly to Vegas and see 3 of the greatest GNR concerts, including Duff!

Hopefully they aren't "replacing" me at work.....lol

Was there a GN'R memorabilia showcase this time around?  I remember last time seeing cool photos of one of Axl's cars and other stage clothing.  Just wondering..

No just one case with a few things that had been left from last time. That was the one disappointment for me.
