Title: Axl Topps card
Post by: 1980Invasion on July 20, 2013, 03:06:42 AM
I recently acquired a redemption card for the Topps autographed Axl Rose card, immediately redeemed it thinking they had been signed but it seems Axl is the only card in the set that hadn't been signed. Just curious if anyone has any info on the possibility of these cards ever being signed and distributed to the winners.  Thanx in advance.

Here is a redemption card on ebay for sale, in the description it says its autographed...but doesn't say that on the redemption card?

Once you redeem your code you will be mailed the Signed card from the redemption offices. The card you linked to is just the CODE to get the card.

I don't get this (and I live in the UK so not familiar with Topps), do you actually receive an autograph upon redemption?

That is correct.  If you want one then you have to open up hundreds of packs of baseball cards or just buy one from eBay.  I waited till the price went down a little and bought a redemption card on eBay for $150.  The redemption code I submitted said that it will be mailed to me in 12-15 weeks.  These are from the "2013 Topps Archives" set.  The card will look like this except it will be signed by Axl:

As of last week there is a SECOND signed Axl card redemption that has turned up.  Have not seen what the card looks like yet but the new redemption cards are on eBay now.  This card is called "Framed Mini Auto" and it's from the 2013 TOPPS ALLEN & GINTER baseball series.  I would love to see what it looks like.  I'm not a sports fan but this looks like one of the most interesting card series I have ever heard of..one card even contains a tiny relic of the fence on the grassy knoll where JFK was shot?!

If like to get one of these but am a bit hesitant if Axl hasn't signed the cards yet. Just a bit worried about shelling out a ton of cash for nothing. What do you guys think?

Also, is the metal base version rarer than the card? In guessing both will have an actual autograph from Axl upon it?

Yes, they are both signed by Axl.  The metal base version is a card made of actual metal limited to only 25 cards.  I've only seen one of them for sale and it sold for $350.

The latest Allen & Ginter series also has two versions, both signed.  A regular version and a second version signed with red ink limited to only 10 cards.  I found out these cards are "mini" sized so not really interested once I have the first one from the picture above.

I understand being hesitant.  The redemption card is printed.  "At time of production, we were unable to insert into packs the Card of the player(s) indicated on the reverse side of this REDEMPTION CARD".  Also says that, "Substitutions of equal or greater value will be made if the insert is unavailable for any reason.  Topps is pretty legit but today people are getting very angry!  Apparently there was a discovery made that rare cards may be hidden inside random card box panels and collectors have been throwing all the empty boxes into the trash without checking them!  Oops.

I picked up a mini framed auto of the Allen & Ginter. Awaiting the arrival from Topps. I have a couple other framed mini's from the A&G I pulled from a pack, they're full sized cards, but the main card inside the "frame" is mini. Here's a link to a random auction; http://www.ebay.com/itm/2013-Topps-Allen-Ginter-Baseball-Nick-Wallenda-Framed-Mini-On-Card-Blue-Auto-/330993613454?pt=US_Baseball&hash=item4d10c1ba8e

Also, I don't think the cards are made of metal for the Heavy Metal Archives series, I think the metal referred to is the genre  (I have some coming, so we'll see when I get mine, not Axl but some of the others in the series). Allen & Ginter has two, as stated, the framed mini auto and the framed mini auto red parallel (limited to 25 & 10 respectively).

Hi Mr. Redman. I'm glad you posted to see what the cards look like..it's like a card within a card.  I bought 8 packs so far but didn't get any good hits.  I don't care for sports but really like the Curious Cases and some others like a "Death Valley" and "Abraham Lincoln" card I'm keeping.  I'm just going to keep buying more cards and sell the ones that are worth more and hopefully use the money to try and get a new Axl card!

I checked again about the "Heavy Metal Archives" series being actual metal and found the original article but I can't find an actual card where someone selling it actually describes it that way:

I've just bought a redemption car for the heavy metal auto base, but I'm new to topps and live in the uk so is appreciate any advice you guys could give me.

As I understand it, Axl hasn't signed the cards yet so am I right in thinking that its best for me to wait before attempting redemption? Or should I log my redemption now and just wait? I've heard that if the card isn't available when you redeem then your application is kept on hold for something like 15 weeks - what happens after tht time if the auto still isn't signed?

Sorry for all the questions!!

Think I'm gonna wait to redeem mine. If any of you guys get yours please let me know. Would appreciate it! Think my card is valid until 2016 :)

Maybe i missed where someone said, but is the Axl card without his signature out yet,or coming out soon? There's no way I can afford the signed one unfortunately, but I would still love to have this card.

Hi friends...
All of the "Axl" cards are signed.  Not a single unsigned card has turned up all summer.

As far as entering the redemption codes I feel like it should be done as soon as you have the code.  Once the cards are signed you will get them faster if you don't wait longer to redeem.  They listed 12-15 weeks for processing but if they have the card and everyone else is getting it you will too!  Last night I sent Topps a note on Twitter and they replied back.  No good news so far but they are aware of it.

Been pending for nearly 6 months now. Ugh!

It's hard to wait so long but many of the players and celebrities are known to wait 1-2 years before signing and then they go and play catch up.  Topps has been updating most every Friday on Tumblr although I'm pretty sure when Axl signs the word will get out pretty fast.  Here is the update page.  http://toppscards.tumblr.com/ (http://toppscards.tumblr.com/)

In the meantime I was enjoying collecting some of the other Topps card from the series.  I don't follow baseball but always liked trading cards.  Here are my favorites so far:
