I think its just strange. Hard to believe he wouldn't be complacent. I just don't know what to think. I'd like to give the guy the benefit of the doubt. We are so easy to crucify a guy. I don't know. It's crazy....

This could be the craziest story I've ever heard. Still trying to understand the what's, why's, and how's. Very confusing from all ends.

As if the story isn't confusing enough, how about the NFL player who claims this girl IS real and he met her and befriended her before Manti. What the hell? I don't know what, or who to believe.  :confused:

I know its just nuts. It's evident by the statements released by Notre Dame and Te'o that she didn't exist and it was a hoax of some kind. The whole thing is just completely nuts. And I think its really sad too. Regardless of what happens, the whole thing is depressing.

I think he is gay and invented this to hide in the closet.

I've had plenty of make-believe girlfriends...I'm usually done with them 5 minutes after I see them on the ol' internet though.  :(
That said, I have no friggin idea how to view the Te'O situation.
This is one of the most bizarre things I've heard since Marv Albert was into biting chicks on their backs...or since Rex Ryan's wife was doing foot porn.

Interesting thought.  I didn't take it to that extreme, but I was thinking along the lines that maybe he was embarrassed about not having a girlfriend and thus making one up.  But I would think the star player of Notre Dame wouldn't have a problem getting a REAL girlfriend, so maybe the "he doesn't really like girls theory" is a better one.

I still think Lance Armstrong is the mastermind behind this whole thing.  Totally made people forget about him right as his interview with Oprah is about to debut.  Man is a genius!

Can we all talk about the giant pink elephant in the room for a second?  Seriously this would have been my first question at the ND press conference last night.  ?So umm Manti Te?o is like gay right?? That?s exactly how I would have asked it too. Like he has to be. I mean there is no way you fake date a chick for a year and not realize she?s fake. That?s IMPOSSIBLE. You don?t meet her once? You skip her funeral. No red flags go up when she dies of Leukemia and then calls you up on the phone again 2 weeks later? Please. There is no chance in hell Manti Te?o wasn?t involved in this. Just like there is no way a heterosexual division 1 football stud would have a long distance relationship with a chick he?d never met. It?s preposterous. The only rational explanation is that him and Tuiasosopo are gay lovers and concocted this entire scheme. Why would they do that? Simple. To throw people off the scent. I mean I got to imagine being a gay Mormon football player at Catholic school like ND isn?t the easiest thing in the world. The best way to keep rumors at bay is have an imaginary girlfriend. And then when people start asking too many questions about her you just kill her off. Then nobody can say shit. You can?t question somebody who says their girlfriend just died from Leukemia. That?s like a free pass to stay in the closet for 2 years. I can just picture it now. Some ND frat kid being like ?is Te?o gay? I never see him with chicks? NO ASSHOLE HIS GIRLFRIEND DIED OF LEUKEMIA!   Fucking Brilliant.

Right now I'm of the opinion that he met what he thought was a girl online. Had numerous real conversations with her. Developed what he thought was a real relationship and the whole time he was being lied too. I think he played up the girlfriend and the meeting in real life because he was embarrassed that he had only ever met her online and that stigma that could represent. I think that he found out sometime after the Michigan St game that the whole thing was a fraud and he didn't know how to react publicly and got swallowed up in the story and continued to tell it even though he knew it was a fraud.

Keep in mind he is supposedly very religious and Mormon so the thought of only connecting with someone over the phone may have appealed to him since based on the religion he would have been unable to have a sexual relationship anyway. I can't imagine having an online only relationship, it just boggles my mind but at this point it makes more sense than just to assume he's gay.

That is what it appears to me anyway with everything I've read. Obviously i'm jumping to some conclusions...

Yeah, I almost want to believe that he actually did just get caught up in the hoax innocently and when he figured out what was up, he didn't know how to react.  I guess that's POSSIBLE.  Who knows for sure though.  That "Catfish" guy has to get to the bottom of this once and for all.

I like this theory...let's hope true or not, his lawyers roll with it!   :hihi:
