Title: GN'R on Backplane
Post by: Spirit on December 05, 2012, 10:56:21 AM
So, there's a backplane site for GN'R...

http://paradisecity.com/ (http://paradisecity.com/)

Anyone have any experience with what this really is?

I know Lady Gaga has one called littlemonsters. ---> http://littlemonsters.com/ (http://littlemonsters.com/)

Me too, but it seems like it's not quite up and running yet.

Anyone here who knows more on how this concept works? As I understand it, it's a tool for the artists to get the fans more involved and include them.

I have absolutely NO CLUE of what a backplane is or how it works...but I'M IN!

If that's the case, I wouldn't hold out much hope given the band's complete lack of interest in the official fan club with the exception of a few Bumblefoot sightings!

I don't know, I don't have much use for a fan club.  Pretty much anything going on they want us to know about spreads like wildfire onto the boards.  Youtube is loaded with performances.  What do you want out of a fan club?

Yeah, after I registered I got an email about getting an official invitation in the near future. But I'm not holding out for anything fast or groundbreaking. GN'R's interest in online sites and getting things going on them has been very lackluster the last couple of years... But they have done well recently with the addition of the official sites fan club etc. But that's part of the reason why we love Guns, and why we find it earth shattering when anything happens in an "official" online manner I suppose.  :D

The fan club was well worth the price due to the opportunity it provided to purchase VIP Up Close N' Personal tickets..

Jarmo, do you have anything to do with this?

Would be a shame if they didn't use your imput for this kinda thing!

Got an email from this, regarding my request for an invitation. It basically says that they are interested in what kind of fan you are, and what you would be interested in getting from this. It asks you to respond with your social media links, and also any online forums you maybe involved in. Sounds like a cool idea, and I'm excited as to what this might relate to. I will reply with my links as soon as I finish work, as I'm currently replying via my iPhone.  :D

I actually never got round to replying to the first email, about what kind of fan I was etc... and I've already recieved 2 emails stating that I can now fully register, and how I'm one of the first and stuff. I don't know, maybe they could tell by my email that I'm a huge GN'R fan on FB, and regularly discuss GN'R and post photos and news etc?...

From what I gather though, I'm still not sure what this backpane thing is. I guess it's a kind of "street team" kind of thing right, where you are told what to post and are told to share certain things?, maybe I'm wrong... but it sounds really cool.  : ok:

Yeah I'm in there too now, but can't seem to access anything at the moment. There's just this blank screen no matter what I press on the menu, even my profile?. I think there are a ALOT of bugs to be worked out, suppose we'll have to wait and see if they all get worked out.  ::)

I heard it's supposed to be a blog. Where they put a title and then people discuss, kinda like Facebook... i honestly think this is pretty useless...It would be more useful to make the FanClub free for the fans...

Might not be a bad idea if it's a blog. Weeds out all the casual fans, and gives us more hardcore fans a louder voice. Well, in between all the "come to brazil" comments...

I thought the fan club was worth it to just for the VIP stuff

It's like a forum, meets facebook meets twitter all in one. Gonna take some time for me to get used to the platform but overall so far I like it a lot.

Honestly it might even be a good concept and idea, but i just don't see the point of having something like this at this moment.

I'm sure fans would probably like to see backstage footage or news on a new album rather than having another social platform joining the already 1000 platforms we already have.

Why not adopt a similar style to Metallica and have bootleg of the shows recorded and ready for downloading on their forum/website? Now that would justify a membership or a one off payment... or even if they sold the bootlegs like Metallica... rare gens, b-sides...recording footage.

Thinkin again... that would never work with GNR...it seems they're too afraid to use technology over there. Too skeptic to do anything that would please their fans...

Perhaps more Greatest Hits tours! That way they can make a few more bucks to fund the new album without giving too much (new stuff) to their fans...

Aaah Axl... it's the new millenium you know? give some more to the fans...

Now, I wasn't going to go there with it being Christmas and all but it is starting to feel a bit weird.  Pay for fan club, buy VIP tickets, join if you have media contacts and hey we need you to come up with your own Christmas card.  :hihi:  I get it all that stuff cost money and they have been very busy.  I think there's a good return for what you buy when it doesn't get messed up.  I also think they are putting in a lot of effort with technology.  It's just taking some time to figure out what they want to do.  I'm sure suggestions are welcome.  And lets not forget, GNR ticket prices are pretty reasonable compared to other acts.  You get a lot of bang for your buck.

I see lots of good things going on with GNR.

Further more and this isn't a rant, look at us from the other side of the screen.  When do we not come off as demanding, whiny and critical.  We start every sentence with I think you should and end with I want.  We could all express ourselves with a little bit more of I'm so glad your here instead of I fight with you like family.  :hihi:

Honestly esteban, after being signed up for at least a month now, I'm still as clueless as before. It seems to be GN'R's own version of FB or something, where people can post something and then we all discuss it.

I'm not particularly a fan of the concept at the moment, but hope it grows into something more worthwhile. I don't know why Guns don't concentrate on their FB page, website and get more involved in fan forums... rather than doing random stuff like this "backpane" thing.  :-\

im seeing lots of pics of Slash's wife, Myles Kennedy and Steven Adler there... definitely not my GNR website to participate and be part of...

edit: im seeing Nikki Sixx's news on this site's main forum... everything is so confusing these days...

paradisecity.com UPDATE about why slash and other old members are in paradisecity.com

The General ? ParadiseCity.com
is a community where GN'R, its members & crew (past / present) and all people can talk, share, create, etc, all things Guns N' Roses. A place that integrates with and builds on the social web as it relates to the legendary band, its music, and its omnipresence. With over 25 years of "history" there are people, places, and things; circumstances that you may not agree with or even hate. Doesn't mean they don't exist, doesn?t mean you have to like. It does mean that collectively we have an opportunity to create the legacy for generations to come. Share your moments, speak your piece of mind and argue your points. After all this isn?t the Garden of Eden, it?s the Internet and this PARADISE CITY!

Well, basically yeah. But the thing that I'm not quite sure if people get yet is that if you don't like a post you can press the dislike button and "help" it not getting the top page. I mean, you don't have to do it to be a jerk asshole - that's important. Whenever I see something that I don't enjoy, most of the times, I just ignore it. But when I see stupid clueless stuff that aggregates NOTHING to a site supposed to be about GNR, I'm more than glad to dislike it...like people posting pictures of themselves with a gnr shirt captioning "Me lol" or stupid gifs...I mean, come on!

I know I'll be crucified because of what I'm about to write but...you know...there is a lot of brazilian people on there and, as a brazilian myself, I can state: brazilian people have the gift of fucking up with social networks. :-X

no one complains about GNR pics where Slash is included, or subjects about him related to the band. But Myles Kennedy? Perla? Steven Adler solo career? You have to be fucking kidding me... That doesn't have anything to do with GNR, not under any possible point of view.

Slash does still play GN'R songs (and plays on most GN'R albums), Myles Kennedy sings a lot of GN'R covers. Perla is Slash's wife and Steven Adler was a member of GN'R, talks a lot about GN'R and still plays GN'R songs. So they all have something (or a lot) to do with GN'R.
Do yourself a favor Estebanf and stay well away from ParadiseCity if you don't agree with their point of view. Respect the webmaster(s) and the members of the site.

I loved paradisecity.com at first. Then once more and more people got added, it's become a clusterfuck. I don't need to see pics of 100 different magazine covers from the fucking 80's. People post entirely way too much stupid shit.

I couldn't agree more with you! But I do like to see scans of magazines from the old days though, you can get a lot of good stuff that hasn't been online yet.  But yeah, I agree with you.

The other day some chick posted some screenshots from GNR videos such as NR, SCOM...I mean, bitch please...

Hopefully things change once the band goes back on tour.

Their presents have nothing to do with GNR. Jesuschrist, does this really need to be explained?

- Slash current career has absolutely NOTHING to do with GNR, no matter how fucked up your mind can be. And let's not forget all the harm Slash has done to this band all these years. Do I need to refresh your mind? ''In a nutshell, personally I consider him a cancer and better removed, avoided and the less anyone heard of him or his supporters the better."

- Slash's wife is merely a parasite: if she's known in the GNR community for something is for throwing shit to GNR, the band we all care and love. She's a useless chubby with ZERO participation and ZERO space in GNR history. I feel embarrased for having to explain this...

- Steven Adler's solo band... do I need to say anything to prove it has NOTHING to do with GNR? Geez. He's another parasite, a very lame one. He sucks Axl's and GN'R's blood everytime he needs it. He underestimates (and recently insulted) the current GNR members and denies GNR its identity as a ''true'' band.

- As for Myles Kennedy... ''he sings a lot of GNR covers'' and that's basically your reason to justify his presence in a GNR site. Well, I do also sing a lot of GNR covers... let's ask Jarmo to create a subforum here dedicated to me and let's see his answer... cant you see how pathetic and childish your reasons are?

It seems ParadiseCity.com's philosophy is diametrically opposite to HTGTH's. I feel much more confortable here. I might have some ''critics'' to do but this is without any doubts a GN'R forum. I don't know what PC.com is, and trust me a lot of fans ask the same...

But anyway, at the end of the day, i will do WHATEVER THE FUCK I WANT with ParadiseCity.com. Keep your suggestions for somebody else.

Yeah, I got to agree with both you guys...

The whole concept just seems really lackluster, and it seems like it's a playground for people to post what they like. I'd rather stick to the GN'R forums, official site and all of the GN'R activity on facebook.
