Title: Gotta Love This Quote: Post by: LIGuns on October 20, 2012, 06:01:53 PM To put it mildly. Think about this, the greatest band in rock history, the Rolling Stones, being upstaged by an opening act. But that?s how unreal it was. GN?R was handed the rulebook and they, forgive the expression, ripped it to shreds.-Lonn Friend

They became bigger than Aerosmith when they opened for them in 1988, and then again in 1989 whilst opening for the Rolling Stones. Without even trying, GNR made statements to both bands and to the world: NOBODY could touch the original five bad boys that were Guns N Roses.

Title: Re: Gotta Love This Quote: Post by: J.Hanover on October 22, 2012, 01:26:52 AM I was at the last night they opened for the Stones and I can still remember the looks on some of the older folks. The looked like a freight tran just hit them with GN'R started to play and the LA Coliseum went F-ing nuts. They went from who's this to crazy in about a song. After Guns was done I swear the place went dead, yes peolpe where excited for the Stones but it wasn't the same. You could tell Mick was trying to get everybody back amped again but.....
That's why GN'R never opened again for anybody on a tour! Title: Re: Gotta Love This Quote: Post by: AxlsMainMan on October 22, 2012, 10:14:22 AM And just think, GNR did it twice in a row. Don't forget when they opened for Iron Maiden ;) Title: Re: Gotta Love This Quote: Post by: rebelhipi on October 23, 2012, 05:38:09 PM That's why GN'R never opened again for anybody on a tour! Not the original bad boys who opened for Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones, m' friend.... Not the original bad boys who opened for Aerosmith and the Rolling Stones, m' friend.... Playing a benefit concert is totally different then opening up for another band. Especially when the person who puts on the Charity concert is Neil Young. If you can name a band they opened up for go ahead, not including a benefit concert or anything like it. Please enlighten me with your wisdom! Some love the past more, some love the present more and then some just go fucking crazy for it all, past and present. They were supposed to open two shows for the Stones in 2006, as some of you may recall - but the Stones canceled the shows. Edit - Might as well say hi to LI (Still think Handsome Dick was AWESOME that night) n' AMM while I'm in here. lol. Hope you're having fun while I brace for snow :crying: I'm heading back out on Friday for the last two shows...I decided it needed to be done (since I could afford it). Worked the past two weeks since I've been home straight, so it's basically just taking my days off all in a row instead. Been mild here in Northern Minnesota though, had a lil' snow when I got back, but nothing since. |
