Title: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: HBK on June 06, 2012, 03:33:03 PM Korn, Slipknot, Stone Sour, Nicolas Cage, Efren Ramirez, Derek Mears, Tyler Mane, Alter Bridge, Anthrax, Megadeth, James Durbin, Kevin Rudolf, Asking Alexandria, DJ Jesse Marco of "Project X" and More Celebrate Guns N' Roses
If you made music any time after 1987, you were influenced by Guns N' Roses. That's a cold hard fact. Appetite for Destruction is just as important as Led Zeppelin IV, Who's Next, or The White Album. It's a seminal landmark of an album that will never get old, and it's as relevant now as ever. Plus, if you've caught Guns N' Roses recently, you've witnessed live rock 'n' roll at its finest. Legendary singer Axl Rose sounds as powerful as ever, and he commands the stage with inimitable and unmatched charisma. The band?guitarists DJ Ashba, Richard Fortus, and Ron "Bumblefoot" Thal, bass player Tommy Stinson, drummer Frank Ferrer, and keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Chris Pitman?remains unstoppable too. Chinese Democracy kicked all kinds of ass, and whatever Guns N' Roses do next will undoubtedly bring rock to another level altogether again. So, given the band's immense influence, we asked everyone from Academy Award-winner Nicolas Cage to Korn to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Efren Ramirez to Slipknot about when they discovered Guns N' Roses, their best memory of the band, favorite song, and what the band means to them. Nicolas Cage [ Face/Off, Leaving Las Vegas, Drive Angry, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance] : I think Axl is one of the great writers of the last century; his piano playing is amazing and that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Guns N' Roses is outstanding. Even before reading that, I've always said Nick Cage - although he's made some dumb ass financial decisions (like buying a fucking dinosaur) - is genius. Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: LongGoneDay on June 07, 2012, 02:48:29 PM Nick Cage is the man.
Weather Man is one of my favorite movies of relatively recent times. Strange that an epic band like GN'R could have influenced so many shitty excuses for bands, aside from Megadeth, whom I have a hard time believing was actually influenced by GNR... Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: slashsbaconpit on June 07, 2012, 03:59:43 PM Prostitute is incredible. It's one of my very favorite pieces of music of all time. I could listen to it 100 times a day and never get tired of it.
So I guess what I'm saying is "Duh, of course!" Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! It's just people commenting on GNR, not necessarily influenced by them. I take influenced by to mean they shaped a band's early sound. Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: Mysteron on June 07, 2012, 04:16:53 PM Prostitute was always a big 'gun'. Youth, RTB, Merck and Buckmaster all regarded it as a strong song, and it is one of my favourites as well.
The problem with Prostitute is that it is that last song on the album, which is appropriate for the song, but it means that alot of people who listened to CD and did not make it to the end have missed out on a proper classic GN'R song. Artist Direct really didn't get too many of the A-list bands over the last 20 years to take part in this piece. Although the Nic Cage thing is awesome! So cool he loves a song off "CD" Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: Fingers on June 08, 2012, 09:36:08 AM I always felt Prostitute was far and away the best song on CD, and defined where Axl wanted GNR to go-I really wished it would have been played in concert when I went.

Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: ITARocker on June 10, 2012, 05:10:59 AM As usual, anyone who says" gnr is great" then is cool & great too.
Nicolas cage is clearly one of the worst actor ever, and for sure he wears the worst wigs ever made. Who cares if he loves prostitute (i love it too, so?)? He's far from being a genius.... Post by: wight gunner on June 10, 2012, 05:58:39 AM Prostitue is one song I'd love to see released as a single.
To me, its a great song that is in the mid-point on Chinese Democracy, the mid-point in being its not anything like shacklers, riad or scraped, nor is it THL, Maddy or Sorry. It stands alongside TWAT in the instantly likeable songs that would make the casual listener go out and buy CD. To me, its the nearest thing to SCOM, PC or YCBM as songs that could feature on a radio play list, TWAT isn't. In the UK (at least) having a line about giving head, that makes no effort to disguise what the line is saying means it wouldn't be played on main stream radio here :( Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Just wonder what would happen if Justin Bieber shew up with a gnr shirt. : ok: People can say whatever they want, and so do I, but lickin people asses by all means it's one of those things i can't deal with Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: lagr08 on June 10, 2012, 06:54:59 AM Okay I am confused. I came to all the message boards right after CD was released and Prostitute was roundly considered one of the WEAKEST tracks on the album. I asked folks to give it another try, check out those bad ass solos etc...
When Axl said something about how if folks didn't like CD then they weren't going to like the next album either most GNR fans said they like it just fine EXCEPT prostitute! The most common comment went something like this; The last track of the album is usually an indicator of the direction the next album will go, after listening to Prostitute I'm not too excited about CDII. And I was constantly making the following argument; Prostitute is the one song that MOST represents CD, you have to let it play a few times and then one day you will realize that what you are listening to is so far beyond any of the garbage that's been released in the past 15 years. I usually got a bunch of yeah maybes or "it's okay man, no reason to be apologist, it's a great album anyways"...blah blah blah Now Cage says he likes the song and all of the sudden everybody wants a fucking single. I love the guy to death, his horrible decisions and screwed up way of thinking is WHAT I like about him, but let's not all sit here acting like he's some public fucking voice we all needed to finally get Prostitute the recognition it deserves. hell. most of ya are still waiting for the video to Better-IMO one of the WEAKEST songs on the entire CD Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Just like in this case. I happen to think Prostitute is great. If Nicolas Cage agrees, cool. If not, oh well. Doesn't fucking bother me to the point that I have to point out how "silly" it is when so called famous people like GN'R and fans are happy about it. /jarmo Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: lagr08 on June 10, 2012, 07:11:29 AM Don't get me wrong. I'm not suggesting that anybody likes the song just because Cage mentioned it. The poll shows that it is currently one of the most popular tracks amongst GNR fans. The key word is "currently" in the first few months to a year after release it was overshadowed by This I Love, Sorry, Catcher(I get it but YAWN) Better and to some extent TWAT. My issue is everybody acting like Prostitute was THE song we've all been waiting to get its due since Nov two thousand fucking eight! A lot of us liked the damn song, but a celebrity mentions it and all of the sudden we ALL like it and worse we all act like it's ALWAYS been one of our favs. It was one of my favs and I guess I could say I told you so but then I'd look just as pathetic because some actor agreeing with me doesn't make me right!
Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: jarmo on June 10, 2012, 07:13:46 AM Business as usual.
Often somebody needs to "approve" something before it's ok to admit that you like it. A journalist, a blogger, a newspaper, a celebrity etc. Doesn't matter if it's a band, a song, a movie, a restaurant or what. If the "right" person says they like it, suddenly it's ok to say the same. /jarmo Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: westcoast_junkie on June 10, 2012, 12:38:59 PM Well. I now hereby proclaim that I like the song "Shackler's Revenge". Now let's see what's becoming populat
Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: Fingers on June 10, 2012, 01:14:51 PM I remember Axl talking that if he ever made a solo album, it might be instrumental-the ending of Prostitute is brilliant-I hope the next album has more like it-it's not really a ballad, and not really heavy-hard to classify, like Estranged.
Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: lagr08 on June 12, 2012, 12:43:20 AM I personally think Rhiad could have been one of the best GNR songs ever. Final product was a bit much but the old raw leak was one bad SOB, too bad the recording was such poor quality. As for TWAT, the leaked version of it was definitely one of the best GNR songs ever. TWAT still gets a little love but I don't know what folks have against Rhiad. What am I even rambling about...
Title: Re: ARTISTdirect's latest to see who says '... that song "Prostitute" is incredible! Post by: slashsbaconpit on June 12, 2012, 11:20:46 AM Prostitute was the song that sold me on CD. The first time I heard it I was blown away, and it was brilliant then and it is now. I've always loved it and thought of it as not only the best song on CD, but one of the best GNR songs period. I don't remember anyone saying it was weak. They're weak if they believe that!
