Over 19 years ago!

Also first time Civil War has been played since Mount Smart Stadium, Auckland, New Zealand on February 6, 1993

I even went and pulled my End of Days soundtrack out of the basement and just added Oh My God to my GNR itunes library in anticipation of them debuting that.

Crazy what time can do, but in re-listening, with Chinese Democracy ears, I now have a new appreciation for Oh My God.

I was also thinking that if they re-recorded that song within the Chinese Democracy "sound", an Oh My God on Chinese Democracy II could be EPIC!

I'll give a full review when i get home from work but some interesting tidbits:

Pre Civil war, he commented how it was an old song and they've never played it live and just rehearsed it, so this is the biggest rehearsal for a song ever... or something like that..

A great concert, they have to come to Europe next Summer, with Estranged, Civil War, and maybe with some more stuff from CD, like I.R.S. or Prostitute (or maybe new songs  :yes:)!

That was so awesome last night!!  Couldn't ask for a better set list!!  Civil war, are you fucking kiddin me!  I was about 10 feet from center stage and it was my first GNR concert!!  This band is the real deal.  I feel sorry for anyone that doesn't go check them out.  I seen a lot of people with black label society shirts on smiling and giving high fives at the end of gnr show talking about how bad ass the show was!  I couldn't ask for a better night!!  Thank you Guns N' Roses!!

Have to say Cival War sounds like they have been playing it every night for a year it was spot on. Also Axl lookin lean and like he means business and Ashba looking every bit a guitar hero rock star, all in all good times for Guns i just hope they dont disappear after this and lose momentum

Got to  the arena about 6:30, doors didn't open till after 7pm

Got inside and the lines at the merch stands were SUPER long. So decided to wait till break between opener and GNR to buy a T Shirt

Got to my seat about 7:30 or so, Crowd in my section was really cool. Surprised at how many had no idea who opener was and a lot of people around me didn't know Axl plays later than most. Took pleasure at the look on their face when I informed them concert prob wouldn't start till after 10:30 LOL

So anyway, Saw Jarmo scanning section 107 and i waved, he came down and we chatted for a while. Really awesome meeting him and I came just short of asking him to erase my negative karma LOL

Del James interrupted our convo which was pretty cool, so we said bye and then began the wait for BLS.

at 9:15 or so, they took the stage... I knew of the band but didn't know any of their songs.... Honestly, not my type of music, I really wish Baz had opened my show but it was ok.

They played till bout 10:15... Went and bought a T Shirt, hit the bathroom and got back to my seat bout 10:45.. Was expecting to wait a while but at 11pm Dexter intro hit and I was pleasantly surprised!!

U know how I know Axl is the greatest frontman of all time and an absolute living Icon and Legend?? When he walked out onstage, first I almost hyperventilated, 2nd, Axl looked like he was 10 feet tall. I felt had i met him, I would've came up to his ankles. That is a testament to his aura and larger than life talent.

First thing I noticed right away was Axl is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more active and physical than the Youtube boots do him justice. I thought i was watching 1992 Axl all over again the way he was all over the stage, running,spinning, jumping,dancing etc.


In an era where his peers hide behind a guitar or stand in one spot, Axl makes all other frontmen look absolutely amateurish. He is without a doubt in a class by himself. You don't fully appreciate or get the FULL power of Axl's scream during LALD till u hear it in concert. I must have said HOLY SHIT like 20 times.

The true Superstar of the evening though was Mr DJ Ashba. Holy fuck this guy is out of this world. He spent most of the time in my section at the railing, so Forgive me if i favor him too much over Richard or Ron, but watching him run,jump and then STAND on the railing and play guitar and interact with the fans while doing so.. just absolutely what GNR was missing.

He would have one foot on the rail, one over it, and he would sidestep down the rail while playing PERFECTLY. The justice he does to my favorite riffs and solos of all time is appreciated.  He even jumped into our section during Nightrain and was standing 5 feet away playing. A female attacked him while walking up the aisle and laid a giant french kiss on him! LOL

Ron also was complete class everytime he came over to our rail. Richard mainly stayed in the middle and on the other side as did Tommy.

Seeing Axl literally 5 feet from me was something I will never forget and a memory that will remain till I die. I promise he smiled at me during Madagascar as I knew every lyric of course. DJ pointed at me during Shackler's

Came just short of catching DJ's pick.... Damn douche next to me!!

The entire concert was a highlight but the best moments were Axl's funny Gravy n biscuit story *growing up, he ate fried bologna in Indiana, C'mon Axl*  As Axl was walking to his tent, a drunk guy in my section in front of me yelled "I love you Axl" Axl turned around and waved LOL

All in All was the absolute greatest concert I've ever been to and I 100 percent support this lineup and want MORE! This lineup has to do an album together. The chemistry and talent in this band can rule the world and save rock n roll.

Show began at 11pm, ended around 2:05am and I got home around 4:15am had to be up at 9. I've been a zombie all day but thinking of the concert last night got me through my day!!!



Axl's jumps in place during Better was outrageous. I think I'm gonna have to check his birth certificate. no way he should be able to get up that high. White Men DEFINITELY can jump.

Great review D, couldn't explain the concert much better myself.  That's funny about almost getting the pick.  I almost got the whistle on paradise city!  Actually got a hand on it, but guy next to me got it.  Oh well, atleast I touched it lol

Best show of the tour? Probably!

we didn't but we were seriously thinking about it when black label society was playing... man their crowd was out of control and i don't mean that in a good way lol.  it was worth it though to be that close when gnr came on.  the band sounded so perfect that its almost unbelievable... even better than when i seen them in 2006 in san francisco and until now i thought that was the best concert ever and im not just saying that... i've seen some big ones... metallica and black sabbath to name a couple.  i can honestly say that this was the best concert i have ever attended... 3 hours of absolute perfection, hell yea i got my moneys worth... i kinda felt like i didn't pay enough honestly.  i hate that we didn't get to meet you guys... i saw you and jarmo talking and i think i saw rick in the very front.  i also noticed dj getting mobbed by all those girls in your section who were trying to kiss him... then i got to hear from my wife after the show about how he had such a pretty face   >:(  did you guys see tommy goofing off with dj's hat... that was funny.   i gotta say though that i think in my opinion anyway that bumblefoot really stood out the most... during a solo i heard one guy say, 'he looks like jesus' then i heard another say back to him, 'he plays like him too'   :rofl: i like how axl mentioned the kind of food we eat down here lol... he's said, 'i had biscuits and gravy with bologna for breakfast.... yes bologna' or something like that anyway it was funny how he said it. 

It sounds cliche for all of us GNR fanatics to go see a show and come back and say it was "the best concert ever."  But honestly, I don't see how a show could be any better after experiencing it firsthand.  They really are that good, and the show really is that great.  They were great in 2002, even better in 2006, and now they're just superb.  I went with 8 friends to the show in Hartford, and they were all blown away and pleasantly surprised.  Many were skeptical heading in, but the band delivered and then some.

My only complaint is, I think all concerts from here on out are now ruined for me because they won't come anywhere close to being as good.  Even if I see GNR again (and hopefully I do), I don't see how they could possibly top themselves.

Completely agree.  I feel lucky to have gotten to see them this time around.  It was a long time coming for them to tour the US, but it was well worth the wait.  Epic 3+ hour shows, 25+ songs, Estranged, Civil War.  You couldn't ask for much more.

Record a song, don't sing it for 18 years, walk out in front of 10,000 people and sing it for the first time since then, have your friend stand 100 feet away recording it with a cell phone, put a huge crowd between you and your friend, then upload that performance to YouTube and we'll start the discussion over.

Anyone who says Axl is not singing with rasp on this tour obviously does not understand what rasp is. If you want to hear a version of "Civil War" without rasp then listen to Myles Kennedy's take on the song. I happen to think Myles does a decent job but he is a singer, who, for whatever reason chooses to never use rasp on his voice.  As far as Axl goes I think it's important to understand that Axl is fundamentally a different singer than he was in 1992. He uses far more technique nowadays in his approach and IMHO sounds better for it. Back in the day he used to just belt with little or no technique because he could.  The end result was that he had more rasp on his voice because he was basically justy shredding his throat with reckless abandon.  A perfect example of this would be the Tokyo '92 SCOM. His voice was used and abused and sure he had tons of rasp, but also sounded terrible. Nowadays he's a lot more technical about what type of voice he uses at certain points in songs. And I know with Axl that everyone loves to concentrate on his high voice, but has anyone noticed that his low voice is far more powerful and controlled than at any time with "Old Guns?" A good example of this is how he sings "It's So Easy" and "Shackler's Revenge" these days. Also keep in mind that almost everything he sang with "Old Guns" was way easier and more straightforward than the "Chinese Democracy" vocal melodies.  So in conclusion Axl is definitely using rasp on this tour...it's just a different kind of rasp because it's coming from a different technical approach.

I had a blast and it was unreal that they played Civil War!! During Nightrain DJ ran up the lower level and was literally 3 ft away from us! awesome i tried to record and hit pause .... damn

Oh wow, civil war - what a set list..  the clips of civil war had me in goosebumps - brought back memories of hearing that song first time I listened to UYI on my walkman (heh heh) and how loud I used to turn it up.  I used to listen to Civil war over and over the first few weeks I had the Illusion albums - that song really made an impression on me, it sounded crazy good from the clips, hope they all enjoyed playing it as much as we lOVE that they played it!  :beer: what a tour what a tour

Estranged was the classic not played since the early 90's.

Civil War is the song that announded GN'R's return post AFD-era. It hit the radio out of nowhere and was the only release until the UYI releases over one year later.

I remember calling every record store in the Philly area, after I heard Civil War's radio debut, begging for information on a UYI release date.

Al Gore hadn't invented the internet yet, so I couldn't search for a release date.

I heard horrible things like, "I don't see it happening for another year". Frigin eternity for a kid back then.

I bought the Romainian Relief Fund cd to have Civil War.

Civil War was HUGE in the GNR timeline.

Next up was You Could Be Mine which came out months before the UYI release for Terminator II.

It was a great one-year period for Guns N' Roses fans.

Anyone see that new Justin Beiber commercial, I think its a Macy's commercial where grown men scream like girls when they see Justin. That was me in the car when I first heard Civil war. My back-then girlfriend was in my car with me and I'm pretty sure that was the "Jump The Shark" moment in our relationship for her. It wasn't much longer after that that she moved on.

Playing Civil War live, with this version of GNR, is a symbol of the steamrolling strength of this band and its future.

not sure, but following Axl's words some closer it appears that he often has a long-time-plan for GN'R related stuff...which he somehow sticks to but it just takes him longer to succeed in his way. there are many examples for that. in general it all goes some slow in progress with Axl and Guns (recordings, releases, setlists, whatever). why 2011 not before? next to the background just given i'd guess he really wanted to concentrate on his CD baby after the release first. the "3 years quote"......well, axl simply said it back then and dont forget he didnt tour for about a year end of 2008-end of 2009, so its not like we had soooo much shows in 2009 or 2011 (yet). we've even had a pretty much dead 2009 where Axl referred it being the "hardest year ever" to him (or similar, check the 2009 Tokyo(?) recording). anyway checking the 2009+ setlists....Estranged and CW are the only old Guns edits in their live sets i think (not counting cover songs). maybe fans' requests did help? maybe Ron's solo teaser (similar to what brought back Dont Cry live) did help? could very well be, but who knows. Axl definately had those 2 songs in mind back in 12/2008.
as an anlogy i'd also like to dig out the "Perfect Crime" 2006 requests...what got more requested in 2006 when there was some kind of official written possible setlist on some official GN'R page with that song on it.
i did never bash any fans about requests and to even think i'd rate Brazilian fans stupid for a request section (online i think? i didnt follow that any close), this is an unfair insult! i always had lots of respect for south american fans in general!

anyway, i like both songs a lot by myself, there is no need to praise them and give me your UYI time review, i've been there, too. but hope it made you feel better. as for main public fans' requests: COMA comes right out of my head aswell.

my CW response was directed to someone who said it sounded like the studio version - which it simply doesnt mainly because of Axl's different voice, thats all!! there was never a "better CW performance" talking by me! that judgement is to everyone's own, very subjective. i'm happy for everyone to have experienced that version live, if they rate it the ultimative ever....more power to them, GN'R music made them a good time again!

I still have the cassette single of Civil War/you could be mine! It was one of the first "singles" of GN'R I ever bought! Lol at singles , you guys remember them  :P

let's to be real...in 2002 and 2006 we had a good band and lot of emotions,but in 2010 and 2011 with DJ we have really amazing and perspective band and I'm sure Axl know and see it,so we can except lot of suprises in next days.Was arena full?

2002 and 2006 were great too. 2006 had a better overall vibe and feel than 2002, especially in terms of the band chemistry on stage.

This team is so good, I almost feel like this will be the one to get into a studio and put down some amazing stuff - fingers crossed

let's to be real...There are no reasons for reunion and it is imposibile...As we know Axl want to dohard and long tours...Do you guys really believe that Steven popcorn Adler can do 2 years tour with 3 hours long shows,no he can't do this...I really like to see him and duff and maybe izzy on some shows (why not Guilby too),but I don't want to see Saul Fergie Hadson ,and I'm sure Axl don't want it...
Now we have one really really good band,probably the best rock and fuckin roll band in the world ,and RNRHF is not reason for Axl to destry it...
I really doubt Axl will be there
