Title: Duff On A VR Reunion "I don't Think We'll Ever Do Anything With Scott"

'It's So Easy': Duff McKagan Talks Addiction In New Book

10/24/11

What was amazing to me was you were doing so well and then you had a relapse in 2005.

Yeah, 10 and a half years later. It wasn't a relapse on booze or coke. It was on Xanax. I think I felt like maybe I was a little bit bulletproof. "I'm good -- I kickbox, I do martial arts, I've got a spiritual center, blah, blah, blah." I carried Xanax for panic attacks. I had them in my backpack for years. I was under a lot of stress. I was the guy from Velvet Revolver -- everyone was coming to me. I took one of these pills for the stress and it just opened up a can of worms. My tolerance just went straight up the roof in no time. I tried to cold turkey-it at home; it was not cool.

There was shame and I guess that's part of your whole recovery. I wouldn't do it again, but I learned that the monster's there. It's not like I love to be f**ked up. Drinking a gallon of vodka -- you're way past loving getting f**ked up. It's something that's there. It's just something that wakes up.

Any chance for a Velvet Revolver reunion?

We'll see. We didn't call it a day. I don't think we'll ever do anything with Scott [Weiland]. I love that guy but I feel sorry for him.

Sounds like they should have called it a day.  If they aren't gonna do it with Scott there is no point in continuing.  I like Duff, but when he says shit like "I feel sorry for him" it makes me think he's a cocky douche bag. He gets all self righteous about being sober.  ::)

yea I don't understand that quote. I hope they don't resent Scott for going back to his brothers in STP. The criticisms of Scott wanting to take the bands sound in another direction and holding them back I can I can deal with. As well as the lateness and drug/alcohol fueled erratic behavior.

Yeah he does annoy me how he kinda brags about what he used to do

why do druggies and alcoholics wear that as a badge of honor? I think its pretty pathetic.

hate reading autobiographies where its a "Look how big my dick" is thing with how much shit i used to do.

Anthony Kiedis does it very well in his.. U can feel the tortured nature coming through the pages and its compelling..

Most others I'm just like "Who Cares?"

I don't see anything wrong with Duff feeling sorry for a junkie.  Duff helped get that guy sober and had a big hand in him getting the VR gig.  Clearly Scott was still a junkie and now Duff feels sorry for him.  Couldnt help him so he moved on.

Scott sounded terrible with STP the last go around.

The "I don't think we'll ever doing anything with Scott.  I love the guy, but I feel sorry for him" part is a bit puzzling for sure...  Hopefully someone in a future interview will ask him to flesh that comment out a bit more.  It implies that Scott is too messed up on drugs to work with....   Of course, that interview with Howard Stern didn't do much to dispel the notion that Scott is "damaged goods."  He sounded pretty down and admitted to, at the very least, drinking quite a bit, so I can see why someone as "successful" as Duff might feel "sorry" for him as it seems Scott still hasn't really "got over" his divorce nor chemical dependencies.

when they play together the guys can't make more than two records before a deb?cle.

Appetite & UYI with Guns, Contraband & Libertad with VR.

after that, egos, drugs, booze, problems with the singers, whatever and it's a goodbye.

I think they learned their lesson this time, and they do their own stuff.

Do you speak of Duff?  Did you read his book?  He relentlessly beats himself up over what an alcoholic/junkie he was.

I don't think there was anything wrong with what Duff said.  It's very difficult to determine someone's intentions without hearing them say it in person.  Things that get posted online get misinterpreted all the time simply because you didn't hear their tone or observe their mood when they said it.

I thought it was condescending, and kind of a put-down, but I'm not gonna get all pissed about it. Duff was closer to Scott than I am, but I don't think Duff really knows what Scott is up to lately.   Duff was basically just repeating what he heard Adam Corolla say when he was interviewed by him.    This is also why I won't support VR continuing,at this point.   You know they will throw Scott under the bus every chance they are asked about him to promote whoever the new singer is.

The DeLeo brothers have said far worse about Scott, and are back playing with him.

Have you guys ever thought that maybe Scott doesnt want to go back? Scott said in his book that the music that he made with VR wasnt in his soul it was made to have hit singles. That being said, Scott is def back on something and for that i also feel sorry for him, he has kids to take care of, get your shit straight and stop being a junkie

Scott said in a recent interview never say never, and maybe someday they will do some shows-it's like when he got the call from the DeLeo brothers, saying "hey, wanna make a million dollars?" Money tends to heal things very quickly.

Anthony Kiedis's biography = I did drugs, I got laid, I did drugs, I got laid, I did drugs, I got laid, and onwards to the end, with occasional reference to the Chili Peppers. It's the ultimate look at all the shit I did book.

Anthony Kedis and Nikki Sixx both

Nikki Sixx's entire career is fueled by his heroin use.  Did you guys know he played bass and actually wrote music too?

I would really like to see Scott back with these guys, they did have a certain chemistry that was special. I still think that Scott is the only capable singer for any project named VR, and don't see it starting back up without him.

I honestly think now that VR won't start back up, unless Scott is involved again. If it was going to happen, it was going to be with Corey Taylor. Now I think that Slash has accepted that carrying on VR without Scott would be pointless, so he is going to do his own thing for as long as he can avoid the "VR Issue".
