Title: Hopeful GNR U.S. Tour Setlist Options?
Post by: italysfinest1985 on September 25, 2011, 06:35:26 PM
As Axl has said "this isn't have it YOUR way"...and anything out of GNR's amazing catalog is great to hear live to be honest. However, just curious to see what songs you guys are hopeful the band pulls out on the upcoming tour.

These are a couple gens I would like to hear that haven't been frequented as much (or at all) on their past few tours.

Don't Cry, Catcher In The Rye, Estranged, Rocket Queen, This I Love, Yesterdays.

Any thoughts/opinions?

Can't wait for this tour to kick off! Gonna be epic.

I want to see TWAT become a regular . It is my favorites GNR song. Also wouldn't mind hearing Civil War too.

Would be cool if they put lots of UYI songs into rotation, being the anniversary this year.

New songs are always welcome!  :D

Dead Horse would be sick, although I can't see Axl playing that these days. Dunno why. I would like to hear:

Locomotive
Estranged
Civil War
TWAT
Out Ta Get Me
Get in the Ring
Hair of the Dog
One in a Million (LOL!)
Human Being

Atleast one of these would make the show for me :D

My guess is that its going to be very similar to what they played during their tour last year since the US hasn't seen a show since CD was released.

Cool if they got the fans to pick some of the songs to be played live. Stone Temple Pilots did it with there 2008 tour and I think Motley Crue are doing it for their upcoming tour. Cool idea, but I don't make the plans to do that  ;) My picks:

Civil War
Breakdown
Yesterdays
Bad Obsession
Perfect Crime
Estranged
Locomotive

All I hope is to hear 2-3 songs i've never heard before such as You're Crazy, Reckless Life or maybe a whole lotta rosie.
of course anything they've never played before would rule too!

Crying about the setlist is indeed bull
Just saying which songs you would like to hear live is something else; nothing wrong with that.

Locomotive!

I think the Garden of Eden would work great with this band. Especially WIth chris on the "bells n whistles".

CD, Jungle, Easy, Brownstone....
I see what you did there.  Pretty clever.

I'd love to hear ANYTHING they choose to play.  But if I had a choice I'd like to hear Rocket Queen, since it's my favorite song.  Breakdown would be fantastic, though unlikely.  TWAT of course, and any of the other 8 songs or so I haven't heard live off of CD.  Civil War, Estranged, Don't Cry, really the list is endless.  Like I said, anything and everything is alright with me.

Oh, and a friend of mine going to the show LOVES "Down on the Farm", so that'd be nice as well.  And obviously any new material would be a huge bonus, though again not something I expect.

CD, Jungle, Easy, Brownstone....

Chinese Democracy as opener was a huge surprise for everyone, you included.

Guns N' Roses showed you this last 2009/2010 tour that has a pretty flexible setlist, and ENOURMOUS setlists with music for all tastes (old era fans, new era fans, casual fans, die-hard, etc).

You're still trying to digest that GNR did everything you said that wouldn't happen (including a fabulous punch in the face like the show at the tokyo dome, the longest show GNR has ever done according to Axl, DJ and the whole band) so you're spiting now your rage out.

Relax, and enjoy a band that looks to the future. GN'R aint dead yet!

not sure what ya mean with "trying to digest that GN'R.....", you can clear that up in pm or email (because thats not topic related as all of your reply) but as you openly called me out here i'm doing open replies aswell:

no, actually i want to hear and see those 4 songs from the Rio show.
no, CD as opener wasnt a huge surprise for me.
flexible setlist in 09/10? no way. but there is always hope.
tokyo09 you still act like the blind-following-everything-they-say-is-true-fan. we have compared exactly and it all leads to the fact that the Axl 09 camp didnt handle the show timer/counter properly - when they had the intention to do so.

i'm relaxed and would also like to hear ITW with the nice little Diana Ross- Jam "Love Hangover" in it.

- once ''Sorry'' is over, you just can't guess with total security what's next in a GN'R show. I know that, and im a guy that love collecting recordings, so i know what i'm saying. You know this too. That's why you stopped mentioning titles after brownstone.

- I just dont believe you weren't surprised with CD as opener. And if you didn't, well... you were the only one in this whole message board...

- I guess you should explain me what's your concept of ''flexibility''. If being flexible for you is playing 20 songs one day and another 20 different songs at the next concert, well, GN'R ain't flexible then... but do you know a band that does that?

- About tokyo... i will not argue no more... I did a simple comparison myself (no need to be an audiotech to do that) and we have GN'R's frontman himself saying that. It's pretty obvious they were conciously trying to beat that record and they succeded.

their setlist is stable, they didnt switch it much (til now, hope dies last!), even if they change the song order it remains the same songs! just a few varies here and there doesnt make it unstable. "flexibility" would be if you dont even know what songs you can expect, let alone the same first 4 songs or PC. "flexibility" would be goin to 2 shows in a row and getting 2 setlists with many different songs each, flexibility could be leaving out NR changing it for "Bad Apples"....unexpected and "dangerous"...something the band name was known for.

CD as opener after CD release was expected by many fans before the 09 shows, we had topics about that, this wasnt a surprise.

tokyo09:
yeah, i remember you've used the cut(!) unknown source/transfer of "maxximum" 3cdr set in some audio proggie and even counted repeated show parts from tokyo09 to fullfill the "they said so and i compared, it must be true!!"-theory, ouch! i'll post the exact comparing again, feel free trying to falsify that.
in the end they intentionally tried to beat the record but all indizes say they failed in it. move on  ;)

back on topic: Scraped as opener (without the vocals intro) would rock!

Prostitute, Prostitute and more Prostitute :)

Any of the epics off the Illusions: Coma, Breakdown, Locomotive, Estranged

Reckless Life!

Most bands don't even change the ORDER of the songs in their set. It's "Wham, Bam, 90 minutes, thank you goodnight." Gn'R is WAY more flexible that the majority of Headliner acts out there. Sure, there are a few exceptions, but all in all, they offer way more variety and a hell of a lot longer show than anyone else. (of course, when you have 15,000 bootlegs, I'd imagine you'd become kinda jaded to that fact)

Part of the issue is that their shows are productions full of pyro and stuff, so they have to keep certain things the same.  Unlike Pearl Jam for instance who don't have as much production to thier shows which affords them the opportunity to really switch things up.  And lets be real, Axl's style of singing lends itself to it being more difficult for him to pull off stuff that he hasn't really planned for.  Some of the best surprises in Tokyo '09, while awesome that those songs were played, came off as a bit of a mess.

I loved the setlist from the last few years, but I just wish they included Oh My God, Riad and even Silkworms once in a while. I don't know why GN'R choose to ignore these songs, especially since they are from the new era, and one of them is even on CD.

Who knows what Rio has instore..... ;)

I could live with that... Tommy said the pending Riad lawsuit was indeed a factor for it not being played live
