Title: Axl and Manson
Post by: Barbour on September 07, 2011, 02:18:16 AM
What is the relationship between Axl and Manson? I am a little bit SHOCKED! He even covered a song, everyone of you hardcore fans knows it. Why this kind of public relations during the whole tour back in the 90s? Is there any ideology behind it?
Happy discussing.

Axl thought it was a cool song, so covered it. They don't have a relationship.

You know what's funny? I first thought you meant Marilyn Manson (who has apparently recorded a cover of One In A Million, but decided not to release it)... so my original answer was "Manson thinks Axl's a great frontman, and they met once when they were both at a gig with Trent Reznor, but other than that they don't have a relationship".

What gig were they at with Trent?  I know in Marilyn's autobiography he mentions that he met Axl and told him he was toying with the idea of recording a Charles Manson song.  Supposedly, Axl lifted the idea from him.  Axl, Trent, and Marilyn are my three all time favorites - the thought of the 3 of them hanging out really adds a skip to my step!

Plenty of people wear Che Guevara T-shirts.

I know, I know... he's a revolutionary hero and a symbol for socialists everywhere. But he still killed people - sometimes people who were on his side, too.

I've read once that M Manson was pissed at Axl because he covered a Charles Manson song and he (Marilyn) wanted to be the first to do that (sometimes rock stars are like little children). Later Marilyn covered another Charles Manson song (I think 'Sick City').

No matter what, I think 'Look at your game' is a cool song althrough it is written by a sicko like Charles Manson.

I honestly think that Axl covering a Manson song, was just a fun and cool thing to do at the time. I think Axl likes being a rebel, and the shock value of Axl supporting such an artist as Manson was enough to make him do it. He also wore the attire during the 1993 legs of the UYI tour didn't he, he was really into it at one point.  :hihi:

But it soon wore off, and in an interview around 93-94, Axl stated that all of the procedes towards the song would actually go to the victims families, instead of Manson. I also heard that he also donated a big portion of this income to Dolphin charities, which is another cool thing to do.  8)

Dolphin charitis? Instead of human rights or something, child abuse money?  :-\

Dolphin charities need money, too. ::)

Besides, I'm pretty sure Axl has enough money to donate to more than one charity... I've heard that child abuse charities are also on his list of philanthropic endeavours, for obvious reasons.
