Title: Rolling Stone's Worst Cover Songs of All Time
Post by: Oasis1 on August 24, 2011, 09:27:36 AM

Number 4: Sheryl Crowe, Sweet Child O' Mine

Big Daddy isn't one of Adam Sandler's most well-remembered movies. It isn't a classic like Billy Madison or Airheads, and it isn't despised like Little Nicky. It's somewhere in the middle, in the same ballpark as Mr. Deeds. Sheryl Crow recorded a cover of "Sweet Child O' Mine" for the soundtrack and rock fans really, really hated it. Axl has never commented on it, but he probably hates it too. He's a hard man to please.

I think if AXl hated it he would not have allowed it, or even debuted new guns during the same movie

But yeah its awful

Glad to see it ranked so high. I cannot stand her version of that tune.

I don't mind her cover of Zeppelin's D'yer M'ker, but I just can't get with her cover of SCoM.

"He's a hard man to please."

Funny how even in the news like these, the press has to say something negative about Axl.   :hihi:

I like some of her stuff but I never really liked it. I guess basically I didn't like it cause its a little strange hearing it sung for a child instead of a lover. lol

I just remembered another cover of hers that's great. She did a version of Rod Stewart's The First Cut Is The Deepest that was excellent. But I just can't get over how bad SCoM was.

Now they know what is in Axl's mind. Amazing.

hated that version.  Have yet to hear any GnR song covered by a female vocalist that I do like tbh.  For example much as I like Courtney - Hole's PC cover was not good.  Something less obvious might work, in the vein of Tori Amos covering Smells like Teen Spirit, maybe.  maybe not.

Fergie, Carrie Underwood n' Taylor Swift have all done admirable GN'R covers..I would like it if 1 o' them did a studio version...

Cheers for that - hadnt heard it.  Granted, thats prob one of the better female vocal on a Guns song I've heard, it was an ok cover, though it sounded more dated than the original song!  At least they went for it though and I can imagine it going down well live too  She has a good rock voice.

Sorry LIGuns, those three singers in your post are perfect examples of the covers I really did not enjoy. each to his own though  : ok:

I realise the thread is more about well known female artists, so i hope this isn't off topic, but i'm really liking this cover at the moment - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvzwqab4liI&feature=related
(I hope you like it Julia!!).

This statement made me laugh.

There is no way to know how Axl feels, if he hasn't publically spoke about it.

Strange that they would say this, but I do agree that the cover is poor.

I thought Hole's cover of Paradise City was a joke, wasn't it?  Doesn't she hate Axl/GNR?

I personally can't stand anyone covering a GN'R song, especially if the person tries to change it into a completely different rhythm and tempo/style. On a positive contrast to that, I fuckin LOVE the newly recorded SCOM which appears in this film, and that instrumental posted earlier in the thread is just heaven. Now that is a way to smash a GN'R song, by not changing it too much, and completely making it your own, as did the GN'R of 1999 did do, they absolutely owned it.  ;D

Robin's solo is so powerfull, and full of feeling. I would kill to hear all of this song, with all of the interludes, intro and full solo as well...
