Ali Title: Re: Tommy radio interview today at 2:45p CST Post by: jarmo on May 18, 2011, 03:53:44 PM Tommy said he played baritone saxophone for a minute.
He said he had been in jail three times when his brother started teaching him to play bass. Talks about recording with Paul for the Replacements compilation. Tommy says they never broke up, they just left it there. Says his new album One Man Mutiny is coming out in August. He talks about Village Gorilla Head. World premiere of a new track. "It's a Drag" /jarmo Title: Re: Tommy radio interview today at 2:45p CST Post by: Ali on May 18, 2011, 03:55:30 PM Tommy said he played baritone saxophone for a minute. Tommy says that was a fun record to make. Says it got to be too much and then he started Perfect. The Perfect record was done, and then the record company decided there was no hits on it. Tommy went to audition for GN'R when he realized Perfect was going nowhere. His friend Josh Freese was in the band. Axl was doing something ballsy. Says Axl and he have similar stories. GN'R and Replacement fan bases aren't that different. Tommy had some experience when he joined GN'R, something not all members in the band had. Robin for example had never really recorded albums. The DJ asks if it bothers him to get asked about the Replacements. Tommy says it doesn't. He says it's part of what he's done and is doing. Tommy says Axl went to a Replacements show in L.A. with Del. Tommy says they weren't necessarily fans of each others bands. But they have mutual respect and Tommy thinks what Axl was doing was very punk rock. Tommy mentions playing shows in New York. A residence. GN'R is gonna do some stuff in South America, maybe in the States. They play another new track. "Meant To Be" /jarmo Title: Re: Tommy radio interview today at 2:45p CST Post by: jarmo on May 18, 2011, 04:19:12 PM Tommy talks about Timkatec.org (http://Timkatec.org), and going to Haiti.
And the auction he did. He says his thinking about doing another auction this year. Tommy says he's putting out the new album himself so he can always sell it at shows in the future. Something he can't do with the Bash & Pop or Perfect records since he doesn't own [the masters to] those, and the record company doesn't wanna give them to him. /jarmo Title: Re: Tommy radio interview today at 2:45p CST Post by: willow on May 18, 2011, 04:24:18 PM Hope he tries some Spotted Cow beer while he is here in Wisconsin!!

At the final Replacements gig, Grant Park, Chicago, July 4, 1991, you can find on various boots, the best being "It Ain't Over Till The Fat Roadies Play". At the start of track 8, before "Waitress In The Sky": The story goes that the cameraman down front for the gig was messing around. You hear: Paul (Westerberg, Replacements frontman): 'get him outta here...." Tommy: "Hey, hey, Paul.......mister cameraman......." <crowd noise> Paul: ".......wanna see my Axl Rose impression?" I'm a BIG 'Mats fan. Knowing Paul's sardonic, dry humor, yeah, I'd have to say the Replacements were not big fans of the LA scene, let alone GNR back then. But it's water under the bridge now, ain't it? :) |
