Title: Jeff Beck
Post by: LongGoneDay on March 29, 2011, 09:45:16 AM
Sorry if I missed it, surprised not to find a Jeff Beck topic..

Any Beck fans here?

Just saw him with the Imelda May Band this past Saturday at the Wang Theatre in Boston.
I've sen him a half dozen times before, but this was a much different type show. It is a tribute to the late great Les Paul, and the band plays his songs as well as many others from that era.
They play some Elvis, Cochran, Little Richard, Bill Haley, Shangri Las, Santo and Johnny, Shadows..
It's pretty rare to see Jeff with a lead singer these days, and Imelda May has an amazing voice. She's easy on the eyes as well. The whole band is pretty tight.
Not many people, if any one at all, can hang with Beck on guitar, so I can't see this show disappointing any fan of rock n' roll music.

If you pick up his Rock N Roll Party DVD released last month, you'll get a feel for what the live show is about.
He's touring the states now, I highly recommend catching it if you have a chance.

...his "Jeff", "You Had It Comin" and "Who Else?" albums are amazing.  "Emotion and Commotion" was pretty good too, though it was a bit of a disappointment.  Haven't had a chance to listen to his newest album.

Yeah, I was kind of surprised how well Emotion was received. I listened to it a couple times, but got bored with it quick compared to his past work. I've been listening to the Rock N Roll party disc pretty much non stop though, as well as the bootlegs I have found of the tour. It's totally different than the albums you mention, but worth picking up.

My personal favorites are Truth, Beck-Ola and Blow by Blow.
He's supposedly got a blues album in the works with Rod Stewart.
