Title: Question about November Rain Picture Disc, With pictures
Post by: spookeend on March 09, 2011, 05:26:11 AM
I found a picture disc, i allready had it, but it was in the list, so i let it come allong with the batch.....

Now, i have it here, and it's way more Yellow as the one i allready had, and it is much stiffer. It also weighs a good 50 grams more.

Normal one is 140 grams, the yellow one is 190 grams. It also has a red rim arround the edge. Though, it seems a little weird, because there are no real grooves there. The audio grooves seem to start a little further into the lp somehow. It does play ok, but sound not as good as the other one.

Any more info on this one would be appreciated. Will try to make some good images as soon as my cam is back from repairs

Pics or GTFO

just kidding of course but on a serious note, pics of said item (high quality pics) would be most helpful.  There is a more rare red-rimmed version of this disc but I never heard of it being heavier or yellower (if that's a word).  If you get a chance to post some pics that would be awesome

Well, i weighed it, because it felt less flexible as a normal lp. So, that is why i'm sure of that.
It does not look like it is a red vinyl all along, dunno, perhaps it is, and that causes the more yellow being on the normally crystal clear white as my other copy has.

You know i can make good pix, lol, but my cam is at a repairshop, something with a cmos sensor orso, it's ordered, waiting to get put in and then i can pick it up!

BTW troc, check your pm!

Made some images. Cam is back from Repair, new software, damn, need to get to it again, tweak it and so, so quality is not perfect, sorry....
Did find a red rimmed on the net too, was on Troc's page, lol, never noticed he had a wish list, but it does not look the same at all as that one.

I think, because the vinyl color and sound quality, this was some kind of test press? The sound is nowhere near as good as the other one, the vinyl looks weird and the colors are off?

Pic 1. No Flash, but you can see the red rim, there is also the same black rim as with the normal one.

Pic 2. With Flash. I mentioned it being more yellow, but looking closer and by daylight, and now also with the flash, it is more pink then yellow, sorry...

Pic 3. With Flash. As you can see, the black is more red, and, compared to the other, the backside is not aligned with the front. If you flip them both the same way, horizontal, the normal version has the text the right way up, the red one has not.

Pic 4. With Flash. Turned the back to match the other one, you can see the white lettering is also a little red-ish....

Pic 5. No Flash. Still clearly not totally black as the other one, letters are not white.

Thanks for the pics.  Yeah, now that I compare,  it looks very similar to the other ones I've seen.  Any interest in selling?

Not really, no, i am a collector like you, if it's special, i like it, lol

But, it is a test press, or a miss print, or?

Yeah good question, my belief is that it's most likely a misprint and the red dye ran wild.  But who knows?

if it was a misprint then they would be the same grade vinyl wouldnt they, the yellow one is 50gms heavier!!

are the matrix numbers the same and are they both machine stamped or hand etched?

both are the same, checked that... But, the one on the pink / yellow version is very hard to read

So, guess is that it is a missprint? Too bad, a test press would have more cool, and worth more too in the end..... (not that i don't value it for the bargain i got it for)

And Troc, it does not look like the one you have on your wanted page at all? That is white, and has only a red rim, where this has a black vinyl?
The one on your page seems to be pressed on red vinyl?

if its 50gms heavier than the normal issue pic then it cant be a misprint, its surely a test press in my opinion

well, i can make some pics while weighing it, so you can see?

But then again, lol, i allready know (the weight that is), it's just so less flexible as the normal one, it grabbed my attention.....

Thank you for thinking along, it just puzzles me, i am into vinyl much, this is new to me. I mean, i know test presses, and they have some alternative matrix, or just weird coloring, no disc centers, no picture or whatever, this is just a weird thing.

I bought it out of a batch, the guy had no idea where he got it, so that is a dead end to get more info, perhaps a testpress gone wrong?
