Title: just a good thought possibly ?
Post by: tommyrai on February 23, 2011, 07:25:22 AM
just an idea and maybe i am in the wrong for suggesting this, but it would be really cool if Gnr posted maybe just 1 new track on the myspaace/facebook etc as a download for the fans and support, i dont know if anyone agrees but theres gotta be one new song that could swing by :) and keep the hunger for new material at bay for a while rather than leaks etc coming out - it is just a thought though,

other than that saw gnr twice last year in the uk- and they were amazing - my mrs is now a die hard fan 2 :)

I'd obviously say not a horrible idea

Would be cool if they did...understandable if they didn't...I'm sure everyone has thought this one though....lol

if the relaunch idea is on the table, it would make sense than a single will help. the question remains : which one?

if it's an already known track from the album, Shackler's Revenge is the evident one for me.
it's strong, it's catchy, it's dancing, it's right into your face, and easily remixable for a clubbing-friendly B-side.

if it's not, a cover would be the right choice, and Sailing is still in my mind.

and even if a relaunch is not in the plans, imagine selling it on Itunes at one dollar, check the number of fans
on facebook, 6 555 223 at this time, if only half of them buy it, it's 3 millions dollars directly in your pocket, baby.

I personally think Shackler's Revenge would turn a lot of casual fans off, but I would love to hear a studio version of Sailing.
Perfect song for Axl.

what do you mean by "casual fans" ?

If the goal is to get Guns N' Roses fans interested in the new album, I don't think Shackler's is the song to do it. The song doesn't do it for me personally, or anyone I know.
It's drastically different than anything they've done, aside from maybe Oh My God, which wasn't exactly a smash hit itself (I think it kicks ass for the record). I'm not saying it's a bad thing that it's different, I just think something more familiar sounding like Street of Dreams, or Catcher In the Rye would have the best chance of generating interest in fans of old, and then maybe they get into Shacklers down the road.

Now if the goal is to reach out to a new crowd, maybe Shacklers is the song to do it. I'm not going to pretend I'm in touch with today's music.

yeah because I don't get the point to please "old fans". if  you're an old fan, you know the album, and you're on this board.

catcher is a great song, but it's not even a single.

i like the idea of sailing as a release that would be cool nice to get old and new interested - its a great version - i just think something like this would be cool for us and cool for them score a few points etc - sailing is a great tune
